Chapter 430: Chapter 430: Not Short of Sons
“Miss Lan Yan, do we need to bring her back?” the bodyguard asked.
Lan Yan replied, “No need. Just follow her and make sure she doesn’t escape.”
All Dong Xiaoxiao wants is to return to the Dong Family.
Hu Yunqin has probably taken care of everything over there. Even if Dong Xiaoxiao returns, she won’t find anyone.
If she likes to make trouble so much, then let her do it to her heart’s content.
Perhaps witnessing it firsthand will break her spirit more easily.
“Alright, I understand, Miss Lan.”
After leaving the hospital, Dong Xiaoxiao hailed a taxi by the roadside.
Right now, she was penniless and didn’t even have a phone.
“Driver, to Lake Heart Villa.”
“Got it. Sit tight, miss. Please fasten your seatbelt,” the driver said.
Dong Xiaoxiao’s expression was far from normal at that moment. The driver, seeing her in such a state, asked out of concern, “Miss, is everything alright? Did something happen at home?”
Dong Xiaoxiao suddenly looked at him and said, “Driver, can I borrow your phone to make a call?”
The driver, a kind-hearted middle-aged man, responded, “Of course.”
As he spoke, he handed her the phone.
Dong Xiaoxiao took the phone and dialed Hu Yunqin’s number, but it still didn’t go through—this time, straight to voicemail.
Then, she dialed her father’s phone number, but the result was the same.
She thought about it and realized there was no one else she could call, then suddenly remembered her home landline and dialed it.
Unfortunately, no one answered that either.
Seeing her increasingly distressed expression, the driver asked again, “Miss, did something happen? Do you need me to call the police for you?”
At the mention of the police, Dong Xiaoxiao instinctively shouted, “No!”
What she feared most right now was the police.
The driver, seeing this, didn’t press the issue further.
Forty minutes later, the taxi arrived at Lake Heart Villa.
“Miss, you can’t drive in here. You’ll have to walk the rest of the way,” the driver informed her.
“How much?” Dong Xiaoxiao asked.
“76 yuan,” the driver replied.
Dong Xiaoxiao tossed a $100 note to him and got out of the car.
The driver rolled down the window and called out, “Miss, I haven’t given you your change!”
But Dong Xiaoxiao completely ignored him.
When Dong Xiaoxiao reached the villa, she found that the door wouldn’t open.
She tried entering the passcode multiple times, but it kept showing as incorrect.
Now, she was utterly panicked.
She sat at the doorstep waiting.
She couldn’t understand how things could have changed so drastically in just two days.
Dong Xiaoxiao waited at the villa’s door all night, but no one returned.
Instead, the police showed up.
“Miss Dong, please come with us,” they said.
Half-asleep, Dong Xiaoxiao opened her eyes, only to see several uniformed officers standing in front of her.
At first, she thought she was dreaming.
Until a female officer gently patted her shoulder, “Miss Dong?”
She snapped awake instantly.
Terrified, she curled up into a ball and stammered, “W-What do you want?”
“Miss Dong, your bail period has ended. You must come with us. Your case is still unresolved,” the female officer said.
Dong Xiaoxiao’s eyes widened in alarm. “What do you mean my time is up? I don’t understand what you’re talking about. I won’t go with you!”
“Miss Dong, we hope you’ll cooperate with our work.”
“I won’t cooperate! Leave! Just go away!” she yelled frantically.
The officers exchanged a glance and reluctantly decided to use force.
“Miss Dong, if that’s the case, don’t blame us for doing our duty.”
“I’m not going with you! Let me go! Let me go!”
Dong Xiaoxiao shook off the female officer’s hand furiously.
She tried to get up and run, but the next second, she was caught again.
No matter how much she struggled, they still took her away.
As soon as Dong Xiaoxiao was taken, both Lan Yan and Hu Yunqin received the news.
At a luxury apartment complex.
“Madam, if the master finds out about what we’ve done, won’t he blame us?”
Hu Yunqin shot her a sharp look. “If you’re afraid of being blamed, then keep your mouth shut.”
Mrs. Wu immediately covered her mouth. “Yes, Madam, I understand.”
Dong Jian had flown to the U.S. the previous afternoon for some business, coincidentally turning off his phone. Otherwise, she’d have had to think of another way to deal with him.
Even the villa servants had been sent away under various pretexts.
Initially, she didn’t plan to take things this far.
But this was what Lan Yan demanded, so she had no choice but to comply.
Mrs. Wu suddenly asked, “Madam, when will we go back?”
Hu Yunqin thought for a moment before replying, “Mrs. Wu, arrange for all the household staff to be replaced.”
Mrs. Wu nodded. “Yes, Madam, I’ll get it done.”
After Mrs. Wu left, the bedroom door opened from inside.
“Treating Dong Jian’s daughter like this—aren’t you afraid that if he finds out, he’ll drive you out of the Dong Family?” a male voice came from behind her.
Hu Yunqin turned her head, looking at him. “He won’t find out.”
Even if Dong Jian did find out, what could he do?
Her son’s surgery was already done.
That day, after leaving the hospital, she’d gone to meet Wei Ting.
She knew he had come to Yue City.
Wei Ting sat in the seat across from her, his gaze calm but piercing. “Your son went to such great lengths to bring me here—what’s the purpose?”
It was only yesterday that he found out it had been Dong Junhao who arranged for him to come to Yue City.
Today, he’d come to ask her a question.
Hu Yunqin seemed to understand what it was about.
“I wasn’t aware of it initially. If I’d known earlier, I would’ve stopped him,” she deflected.
She hadn’t wanted Dong Junhao to know so much, let alone that he was aware of Wei Ting’s existence.
If Xu Hai hadn’t accidentally let it slip that day, she would’ve remained in the dark.
Wei Ting stared at her without blinking. “After all these years, you still haven’t learned how to lie convincingly?”
Hu Yunqin: “…”
“Now that you’re fine, you can leave,” she said. “As for Haohao, I’ll explain things to him when the time comes.”
Wei Ting suddenly asked, “The child you’ve been searching for recently—whose child is it?”
Hu Yunqin froze momentarily. “You don’t know them. Why ask?”
The man’s eyes narrowed as he asked, “Are you sure you terminated the pregnancy back then?”
Hu Yunqin let out a chuckle. “Wei Ting, don’t tell me you think that child was yours? Don’t joke around. I made it very clear back then: if you couldn’t give me what I wanted, I wouldn’t keep the child.”
Wei Ting frowned slightly.
Back then, he and Hu Yunqin indeed had a relationship that was nearing the point of marriage. But after the Old Madam Wei discovered her identity, she insisted that they break up.
At the same time, Hu Yunqin had concealed a great deal from him back then.
When the truth came out, the Wei Family became even less inclined to accept her.
By the time he learned she was pregnant, the only news he received was that she had already aborted the child.
He had originally been willing to overlook everything she’d done in the past for the sake of the child, but in the end…
“Wei Ting, the Wei Family wouldn’t accept me. If I had kept the child, do you think they would’ve accepted her? Why should I bring a daughter into this world only for her to grow up as an illegitimate child without a father?”
Hu Yunqin said these words calmly.
Back then, after being rejected by the Wei Family and abandoned by Wei Ting, she’d initially wanted to abort the child. But later, she regretted it.
She had considered secretly keeping and raising the child.
So she’d lied about the pregnancy timeline.
If it were a boy, she might have had a chance.
But unexpectedly, she gave birth to a girl.
Afterward, she briefly considered raising the child herself. But her agent at the time suggested otherwise.
To avoid scandals or weaknesses in the entertainment industry, the agent had advised her to abandon the child.
After weighing her options, she chose to give up her daughter.
“Wei Ting, you have no right to blame me. You were too weak and indecisive back then. If you’d had the strength, you’d still have your child now.”
Her words struck directly at his most vulnerable spot.
His biggest regret in life was not having a child of his own.
A year after their breakup, he’d been in a car accident that left him unable to have children.
Seeing the dark expression on his face, Hu Yunqin felt a sense of satisfaction.
She truly hated him—for the humiliation she endured from the Wei Family and the way they looked at her like she was trash. It was something she would never forget.
Wei Ting opened his mouth as if to say something but, in the end, remained silent.
…
Three days later.
When Dong Jian returned from the U.S., he learned that Dong Junhao’s surgery had been successful.
The first person he thought of was Lin Ruyun and whether she had taken Dong Zheng to donate bone marrow.
Lin Ruyun was surprised when she received his call.
“Hello, Jian, do you need anything?”
“Did you ask Zheng to donate bone marrow?”
“Huh?” Lin Ruyun was momentarily stunned. “I wanted to, but our Zheng is still too young for that.”
She didn’t mention that Hu Yunqin had approached her about it.
She feared Dong Jian finding out that she’d met with Hu Yunqin in secret. While he forbade Hu Yunqin from contacting her, he also forbade her from seeking out Hu Yunqin.
“Jian, did something happen?” Lin Ruyun asked.
She was aware of Dong Junhao’s surgery success but had no idea where Hu Yunqin had found the bone marrow.
They had agreed on a plan, but in the end, Hu Yunqin told her it was unnecessary.
She even went to the hospital to investigate but found nothing.
Judging from Lin Ruyun’s tone, Dong Jian believed she wasn’t lying and didn’t press further. “It’s nothing, just checking.”
He hung up without further explanation.
By now, Lin Ruyun was accustomed to his cold demeanor.
Whenever Dong Jian called her, it was rarely about anything personal—and when he did, it was for matters unrelated to her.
After ending the call, Dong Jian summoned Luo Jian.
“Sir, how can I assist you?” Luo Jian asked.
“Who donated the bone marrow for the surgery?”
“I’m not entirely sure. Madam didn’t inform me.”
“Was it Lan Yan?”
“I don’t believe so.”
Dong Jian’s frown deepened. “Investigate it.”
“Understood,” Luo Jian replied.
“Also, look into Madam’s whereabouts over the past few days.”
“Understood.”
Luo Jian promptly left to carry out his orders.
Dong Jian couldn’t believe what had transpired during his brief absence.
…
Later that night, Luo Jian reported back with his findings.
“What did you say?” Dong Jian’s voice rose several notches in disbelief.
Luo Jian flinched at his tone.
“Sir, the person who donated the bone marrow was the eldest daughter,” he repeated cautiously.
“When was Xiaoxiao released?”
“The eldest daughter was released for a few days, but she has already been detained again.”
…” Dong Jian’s expression grew gravely serious.
Luo Jian dared not breathe loudly after delivering the news.
It hadn’t occurred to him that Hu Yunqin, in Dong Jian’s absence, would stir up so much trouble.
“Bring Madam to me,” Dong Jian ordered coldly.
“Sir, Madam is currently at the hospital,” Luo Jian informed him.
An hour later, Dong Jian arrived at the hospital.
When Hu Yunqin saw him, she appeared unfazed.
She met his gaze with calm eyes and greeted him indifferently, “You’re here.”
The two of them stood in the corridor, looking through the window into Dong Junhao’s room.
Inside, Dong Junhao was already fast asleep.
After watching for a moment, Dong Jian asked, “Do you have nothing you want to tell me?”
Hearing his words, a faint sneer crossed Hu Yunqin’s features.
She turned to face him. “Aren’t you concerned about your son’s condition?”
“With you here, what difference does it make whether I care or not?” Dong Jian replied with a frown.
His words infuriated her.
She took a deep breath and said, “Forget it. It seems we’ve really run out of things to talk about.”
With that, she turned and walked away.
Dong Jian watched her departing figure, lost in thought.
He realized that lately, Hu Yunqin had become increasingly difficult to control.
Once the two had left, two figures emerged from a corner of the hallway.
“Does this count as their relationship completely breaking down?” Xiao Si asked.
“It’s none of my concern,” Lan Yan replied. “However, this outcome isn’t bad. At least now they have no time to meddle in my affairs.”
Finally, she would have some peace and quiet.
Xiao Si looked at her and said, “Wei Ting has been trying to meet you these past few days. Since you won’t agree to see him, he even came looking for me.”
Lan Yan raised her head slightly, meeting his gaze. “How did he find you?”
“You think the Wei Family aren’t capable of that?”
“Oh. Forget I asked.”
“Why don’t you want to meet him?”
“There’s nothing worth discussing.”
“I think he’s probably picked up on some clues, but hasn’t figured out everything yet. That’s likely why he wants to see you.”
Lan Yan said nothing, simply walked to the window and looked into the room where Dong Junhao lay.
She said, “With Dong Jian’s attitude, it’s no wonder Dong Junhao is so cold toward him.”
Xiao Si walked over. “Dong Jian isn’t lacking sons. His attitude is understandable.”
“Do you think all men are like this?” Lan Yan asked.
“Like what?”
She turned to meet his eyes. “The kind who keep the main flag flying at home, while letting all the colorful ones flutter outside.”
Xiao Si feigned innocence. “You can’t generalize like that. I’m not like those men. My heart is loyal to you, now and forever. My heart, my everything belongs to you—completely at your disposal.”
He took her hand and placed it over his heart. “Feel it. It beats only for you.”
Lan Yan withdrew her hand. “I only made a passing comment. I wasn’t talking about you. No need for all that drama.”
Unbothered, Xiao Si pulled her into an embrace. “I’m just worried you’ll think less of me. That would be too unfair.”
“…”
