Chapter 1749: Chapter 1779: Knowledge Is Power
Ye Wushuang grabbed Yu Huan Shui’s head, her fingertips lightly sketching a few times on the book’s pages, as lines of tiny characters densely poured forth as if on double speed.
"Even the wrong routes are recorded, why keep those mistakes?"
Ye Wushuang read quickly, grateful she could reverse memory through the Reincarnation Law. Yu Huan Shui had attempted more than once to find her original body, with at least five or six wrong route maps in the deleted memories. If he were to restore them at a turtle’s pace line by line, it would take forever to find.
"The last route is correct. Where’s the map? I remember your book should be a combination of pictures and text."
Ye Wushuang shook Yu Huan Shui, revealing an array of images on the book’s pages.
The text explained, using the pictures became much easier, and the route suddenly became clear.
Ye Wushuang carried Yu Huan Shui and began to wind around.
"Little Junior Brother, you said you came down together with Baihe Boy?"
"Whom did he go to find?"
Ye Wushuang asked casually.
"I don’t know, he walked straight along the road in front of Mr. Yu’s house."
Li Xiaobai replied.
"This guy is restless too; if he causes trouble, I’ll crush him."
"But Baihe is only interested in spirits and ghosts, why is he targeting you? Are you a spirit?"
Ye Wushuang leaned close to Li Xiaobai, sniffing carefully, frowning slightly, "You’re emitting a somewhat familiar scent, where is it coming from?"
Li Xiaobai said seriously, "I’m very handsome, exuding a charming aroma all over."
Ye Wushuang rolled her eyes and dragged Yu Huan Shui forward. She wasn’t interested in Baihe’s purpose, as long as she could get out, all threats would resolve themselves.
Yu Huan Shui remained silent, lost in thought, his eyes occasionally drifting to Li Xiaobai. He had read Li Xiaobai’s memories and knew something was attracting Baihe, though he didn’t speak of it. That thing was closely related to Immortal Ye, and he might rely on it to escape.
"The memory’s endpoint is here. Is this where you saw my true form?"
"Don’t try to deceive me; your thoughts are written on the book pages, word for word."
Ye Wushuang said with a smile.
Yu Huan Shui’s face turned livid. He had always been the one to spy on others’ thoughts, but today he was the one being monitored, and so openly and expertly. Ye Wushuang had seen through his Law of Power.
"Indeed, it was here, in the space crevice."
Ye Wushuang commanded, "Break it open, dig out my physical body."
She was a projection, strong yet unable to replenish strength in time, consuming a part of her power outside the world. Yu Huan Shui’s memories showed her complete body, proving he had a way to open up this space.
"This place seems to be at the very center of the 18th Level of Hell. Baihe Boy only needs to deviate slightly from the routes to the four prisoners, and he will easily find us."
Li Xiaobai looked around; it was spacious with no cover. The three of them were easy targets, and Baihe was sure to search for him when he noticed his absence.
Suddenly, he seemed to think of something, "No, with the Baihe Effect, if he truly wanted to find me, he shouldn’t have taken so long to appear..."
"You’ve finally realized, he never intended to find you, or rather, you aren’t his target. No matter how convoluted the process, the Baihe Effect will ultimately align the event’s outcome with his goal. Thus, everything we’re doing now only serves to draw out what attracts Baihe within you."
Ye Wushuang looked at Li Xiaobai and said calmly.
"Even Senior Sister can’t stop this force?"
"Doesn’t that mean even you’ve fallen into his trap?"
Li Xiaobai was stunned by this revelation, a strong sense of unease overcame him. He thought finding Ye Wushuang was his own will, but in reality, it was the subtle pull of the Baihe Effect.
"Why stop it?"
"I want to go with the Baihe Effect’s flow. When that guy shows up, I’ll smash him."
Ye Wushuang was full of killing intent, wanting Baihe Boy to achieve his goal so he’d appear, for how else could she fight?
Li Xiaobai expressed his curiosity, "I heard the Baihe Effect could catch even Big Senior Sister off guard..."
"That fool’s law is somewhat similar to Yu Huan Shui’s; he can glimpse part of the future and only needs to initiate a basic action, triggering a miracle to achieve that future."
"That’s why he can kick a pebble and trigger a tsunami."
Ye Wushuang briefly explained Baihe’s Law of Power; she couldn’t recount the exact law.
But she had grasped this law; simply put, Baihe could foresee countless possible outcomes of an event a few breaths, even a few hours, into the future and determine one possibility with an initial action.
For instance, the same action of kicking a stone, different timing, different angles, standing or upside-down kicking all lead to different results, yet Baihe knows the outcome of each stone kick and chooses the most favorable result to execute.
"What’s so special about this? It’s just causality. Each cause has a corresponding effect. If you want a particular outcome, initiate the right cause."
"What’s with the mystique? Talking about some Baihe Effect, who coined this name? It’s not trendy at all and only exposes his lack of knowledge."
Yu Huan Shui sneered at their conversation, belittling the notion of the Baihe Effect, which, to him, was a ridiculous exaggeration of the simple notion of causality. Clearly, ordinary people weren’t on the same level as scholars like him.
Ye Wushuang’s face turned cold, "Did I say you could speak? How long until you tear open space, or do you want a beating?"
"I’ll start right away."
Yu Huan Shui swallowed his pride, retrieving a black brush from his waist, a crack formed on its shaft as the book pages flipping sound resounded. Astonishingly, the brush could also be opened to reveal pages.
Li Xiaobai saw Yu Huan Shui jot down a line on a page, "Indestructible."
Then Yu Huan Shui thrust the pen into the void before him.
The sound of "ding ding dang dang" was incessant as the pen acted like a dagger in Yu Huan Shui’s grasp. He swung it tirelessly to chisel through, surprisingly without harm befalling the pen — not even the tip’s bristles were damaged.
The words "Indestructible" had altered the pen’s essence.
Can the Law be used this way?
Even inanimate objects can be commandeered.
Despite the commotion, there was no substantial progress, only the distorted ripples revealing the hidden barrier coating the void, responding to each jab.
Ye Wushuang watched Yu Huan Shui, "Is this how you retrieved my true form?"
Yu Huan Shui stood defiant, "Of course, I used this pen to slowly cut through the void bit by bit."
"If you keep going at it like this, the void won’t open before Baihe shows up; I’ll finish you off and come up with my own ideas."
Ye Wushuang’s hands turned ink-green, lightly resting on Yu Huan Shui’s shoulders, poisons spread over his body in a breath, transforming him into a little green man in the blink of an eye.
Rustle rustle!
With difficulty, he wrote "Immune to All Poisons" on his face-scattered pages, slowing the poison’s effects.
"Im... Immortal..."
"I’m not fooling you... It was done just like this last time..."
Fear of death gripped Yu Huan Shui as he began to beg for mercy.
Li Xiaobai picked up the pen that had rolled to his feet, considered it, and casually added another line: "Knowledge is Power."
Then, with a flick of the pen tip against the void,
Rip!
The space tore open...
