Chapter 1812: Chapter 1839: I Will Be the One Who Survives!
In Jade Lotus Village.
In the temple hall, Wang Dachui received the divine blessing, a holy light cascading down and illuminating his body, then returning to tranquility.
The so-called divine blessing was entirely fabricated by Monk Changsheng, who used the concept to consolidate his power and win people’s hearts.
He not only earned the village’s trust but also extinguished any rebellious thoughts among the villagers.
Only Shangguan Dong and Wang Dachui knew a bit about his true nature.
"Wang Dachui, do you know why you were able to seize the top spot?"
Monk Changsheng stood with his hands behind his back, his expression calm.
"All thanks to the master’s golden words, I am deeply grateful,"
Wang Dachui faced the altar, his back to Monk Changsheng, and no one could see the expressionless face beneath his grateful tone.
"It’s good that you understand. This ability needs to be used for the village. An outlier has come to the village, you know what to do."
Monk Changsheng showed a hint of satisfaction, as Li Xiaobai’s earlier remarks left most people confused, and for now, the village remained under his control, maintaining his advantage.
"As you command, master, rest assured, I will expel the outlier for the village!"
Wang Dachui declared resolutely.
"Excellent!"
Monk Changsheng laughed heartily as he left, leaving only the village chief Shangguan Dong and Wang Dachui to worship in the hall.
The two were silent, and after a moment of silence, Shangguan Dong stood up and sighed, "Immortality is wonderful, from now on, this village will always be under the control of the Divine Envoy."
With that, Shangguan Dong departed.
Wang Dachui stared at the altar in silence for a long time, then reached out and tucked a small incense burner into his sleeve, and wobbled out.
Later that night.
The night was dark and the wind was high.
The village was plunged into darkness, with only a candle still flickering in a side room of the temple.
Monk Changsheng was inside, studying the classics, seeking calm in reading, pondering how to once again wield the Law of Order.
"It’s because I haven’t been able to control the Law of Order. It remains neutral. That’s why I brought it to this godforsaken place called Yue Xing, hoping to create my own domain with the power of order."
"I didn’t expect that in just a few months, I’d fall into the hands of a wet-behind-the-ears brat, the very one the organization ordered to be hunted, constantly escaping the pursuit of Three Inch Golden Lotus and Order, even putting me in unprecedented crisis."
"But the village’s rules are still in place, and I remain in absolute advantage. Wang Dachui should have already contacted Li Xiaobai; after tonight, it will all be over."
Monk Changsheng thought to himself, once he dealt with Li Xiaobai, the organization would surely reward him handsomely, and then he would leverage the organization’s power to fully command the Rule Power, achieving it in one fell swoop.
He reached to extinguish the candle and retire, when a shadow suddenly appeared outside the window.
It was a figure, quite tall, standing motionless outside the door; had he not turned, who knows when he would have noticed.
"Who goes there?"
"What business do you have standing by my door?"
Monk Changsheng shouted sternly.
"Master, I’m here."
A resonant male voice replied from outside, it was Wang Dachui.
"It’s you?"
"What brings you here so late?"
Monk Changsheng relaxed with a hint of disgust in his eyes.
"It’s about the outlier matter from earlier today."
Wang Dachui replied quietly.
"Hmm?"
"You’ve taken care of it so quickly?"
"No wonder you’re one of my favorites."
Monk Changsheng opened the door, gesturing Wang Dachui to come in and speak.
"Is everything sorted out?"
"Have you dealt with Li Xiaobai?"
Monk Changsheng handed Wang Dachui a cup of tea, asking with a smile.
Wang Dachui shook his head, "Not yet."
Monk Changsheng’s expression changed slightly, "Are you ignoring my words from earlier today, or have you grown wings on your back, thinking you can oppose me?"
"Master said earlier today, to use this ability wisely, to rid the village of the outlier, so I came here tonight."
"What do you mean?"
"I think Master Changsheng is the outlier of this village, Jade Lotus Village used to be a harmonious and happy place, but ever since you arrived, the population has plummeted, your tyranny has shattered so many families, and yet they remain oblivious, still worshipping you."
Wang Dachui retrieved a golden incense burner from his sleeve, advancing step by step, "I want to end this."
"What do you plan to do?"
"Young man, don’t act rashly. Haven’t you also enjoyed the blessings of the divine?"
"Now you hold a Death Exemption Token, you’re above others, it’s not worth speaking up for those villagers, you don’t need to deal with Li Xiaobai, as long as you hold on tightly to this Death Exemption Token, neither villagers nor outside cultivators can touch you in the future!"
Monk Changsheng’s eyes flickered with panic, Wang Dachui was serious, something Li Xiaobai had said earlier must have resonated, the other villagers might be bewildered, but how could Wang Dachui, who had been by his side for so long, not understand?
"I’m just a monk with no strength to bind a chicken, surely you wouldn’t smash my head with that incense burner?"
"Don’t be fooled by my young appearance, in truth I’m already one hundred and forty years old, a whole century older than you, due to some special reasons I’ve lost all my cultivation and cannot practice, while you’re only forty, in your prime, surely you wouldn’t do something as vile as beating up a centenarian?"
Monk Changsheng gestured, forcing a smile.
"I want to make this village immortal."
"I recall the master said, wanting to bleed themselves in order to benefit others, now is the time to benefit the people."
Wang Dachui raised the incense burner, bringing it down on Monk Changsheng’s head.
Blood splattered, as Changsheng’s body fell into the pool of blood, convulsing and twitching.
"Killing is taboo in the village..."
"And killing me won’t achieve anything, immortality... is a lie..."
"I deceived you, I have no immortality... Eating my flesh won’t make you immortal..."
Monk Changsheng panicked, he was mere Mortal Flesh, without the protection of the Law of Order, he was nothing.
Watching Wang Dachui dispassionately straddle him, Monk Changsheng poured out his secrets, desperately explaining in hopes of sparing his life.
He was now a victim of his own scheming, Wang Dachui faced no repercussions for killing him, but should he fight back, he would be in violation of the village rules, as violence was utterly intolerable, a serious breach of conduct.
But no matter how he explained, it only elicited a cold three-word response.
"Heh, don’t believe."
Thud!
The golden incense burner was lifted high and smashed down onto Changsheng’s head.
Once, twice, thrice...
The delicate head was smashed to a bloody pulp, as Changsheng spat blood, fingers scraping the earth, grasping a stone, smashing it against the descending incense burner.
In that instant, the stone and his bone shattered together, the incense burner crushed down, rendering his hand a mangled mess.
Wang Dachui mechanically raised the incense burner, continuing to smash, yet as he did so, the space behind him rippled, dozens of pitch-black hands seizing his form, dragging him towards the space leading to the back mountain.
"Ha ha... ha ha..."
"Just one chance for salvation, yet you dare attempt to kill me?"
"Who do you think you are, look well at the incense burner in your hand, its corners damaged from earlier collision with the stone, aside from the sin of my murder, you bear the guilt of damaging a divine incense burner!"
"You’ve made two errors, you’re finished, the one to survive shall be me!"
