Chapter 58 Monster Stealing
That was Ye Xiu's only evaluation of this kind of person who maliciously steals monsters.
There were few players in Burial Grounds, with enough monsters for everyone to farm. Yet this person insisted on targeting the monsters he was about to attack. This kind of malicious monster stealing was mostly done to show off, to flaunt their strength.
This person held a battle lance, with magical fluctuations around their feet. They were a true Battle Mage after job advancement. The magical fluctuations around their feet were the signature skill of the Battle Mage, Battle Spirit, which provided a buff that strengthened the user.
Battle Spirits were created when a Battle Mage triggered them with different skill attacks, and there were five types in total. The triggered Battle Spirits would float around the Battle Mage for a duration of 30 seconds. Within these 30 seconds, the Battle Spirit Emission operation could be used to launch the Battle Spirit to attack a target, granting the character a 20-second buff in addition to dealing damage.
Battle Mages at level 20 could learn the first Battle Spirit: the Attribute-less Battle Spirit, triggered by a Dragon Tooth attack. It was the weakest of the five Battle Spirits in terms of attack power, and the buff it provided was an increase to the character's movement speed. A level 1 Attribute-less Battle Spirit increased movement speed by 1%, with a maximum of 20 levels, increasing movement speed by 20%.
Battle Spirits were the most distinctive feature of the Battle Mage class, and the saying that they used magic to enhance their combat power came from this. Although Lord Grim had also reached level 20, he would not have the option to learn Battle Spirits when learning Mage-based skills.
This Battle Mage's technique was also very skillful. They used the lance to launch the monster into the air, then quickly moved behind it and used a Dragon Tooth, dealing an Aerial Strike and a Backstab. An Attribute-less Battle Spirit condensed at the tip of the lance and flashed to their side. The Battle Spirits produced also varied depending on the operation effect during the attack, with large, medium, and small variations. Although it did not affect the buff, the damage dealt by the Battle Spirit attack was different. The Battle Mage was an easy class to pick up in Glory, but it was quite difficult to master. The use of Battle Spirits, as well as the even more demanding operational requirements of the Battle Spirit Unleash after awakening, were easy to learn but difficult to master.
This guy turned around, facing Lord Grim directly, and continued to kill the monster with a flamboyant display, even after stealing it.
Ye Xiu saw that this person's sense of self-importance was truly extraordinary. Putting aside the act of showing off his skills, one could tell just by looking at his willingness to upload his own face as his character's appearance. What a discordant face it was! Whether using the default settings or randomly combining them, the appearance editor in the game could not possibly create such conflicting effects.
Ye Xiu shook his head, not intending to get tangled up with such a show-off over the trivial matter of stealing a monster. Who knew that the show-off would suddenly make a mistake after showing off in front of Lord Grim for only a short while, and the monster that was originally being juggled in the air fell to the ground.
Ye Xiu couldn't help but smile, and was about to have Lord Grim leave when he heard this person call out his name: "Lord Grim?"
"Hm?" Hearing the call, Ye Xiu turned Lord Grim's perspective back. The person was being scratched by a monster while walking towards Lord Grim.
"So it's you," the other person said.
"You are?" Ye Xiu glanced at the person's ID, Qian Cheng. No recollection. Could it be someone from the same internet cafe who had just added him as a friend? Ye Xiu opened his friend list to take a look, but then saw the person say, "I heard you're pretty good? Come, let's spar."
"Who are you?" Ye Xiu quickly scanned through his friend list of thirty-odd people, but didn't see the name Qian Cheng.
"That's not the point, the point is that I'm challenging you," Qian Cheng said.
Ye Xiu said nothing. Lord Grim turned and left.
"Hey, don't go!!" Qian Cheng shouted hastily, but the monster he had been attacking was still scratching him. Qian Cheng used a Sky Strike to launch the monster into the air, then moved and used a Falling Flower Palm. The monster spun as it flew out, but it flew right towards Lord Grim.
After leaving the beginner village, there was no more system protection, and players could PK each other. The monster was about to hit Lord Grim, but Lord Grim suddenly turned around, and with a shake of his battle lance, he stabbed the monster flying through the air. With a swing of his arm, he slammed it to the ground, using a "Circle Swing" to resolve Qian Cheng's Blown Away attack in one go.
"As expected, you've got some skill. But I advise you to go to the arena with me, lest you lose experience if you die in the wild," Qian Cheng said. But the other party didn't answer, and also used a Sky Strike to launch the monster that had fallen to the ground, followed by a Falling Flower Palm to send the monster flying back. However, this time his Falling Flower Palm was faster, and the monster was blasted away before it could float very high.
"Hmph." Qian Cheng snorted disdainfully, thrusting out his battle lance, preparing to use a Circle Swing like Lord Grim had done just now to catch this Blown Away attack.
The battle lance was delivered with a flourish. Qian Cheng was thinking about which direction would be the most handsome to swing it in a moment, when he saw the monster flying over, but suddenly landed on the ground. His thrust ended up stabbing at nothing.
Qian Cheng was shocked.
If this wasn't a coincidence, then this person had mastered the strength of the Falling Flower Palm perfectly, and had calculated that he would also use Circle Swing to receive the attack, so the distance of the blow was just outside his Circle Swing's attack range, causing his lance to stab at nothing. Just how terrifying was that micro-control?
"You're still far off!"
Qian Cheng heard the other party say this, and quickly raised his perspective to look. Lord Grim had already left on his own, while he was being scratched by the monster that had crawled up again.
"Don't go!" People who love to show off are naturally most afraid of losing face. Now that he had been played with and looked down upon, Qian Cheng wouldn't let it go. He blasted the monster over again while chasing after it.
Lord Grim attacked again, raising his hand for a Dragon Tooth. The flying monster was slowed down in mid-air, followed by a Sky Strike. The monster spun and flew even higher, and then a Twin Stab. The monster opened its arms and hugged Qian Cheng.
"F*ck!" Qian Cheng, who had rushed too fast, couldn't react in time. He didn't expect Lord Grim to play with this monster for so long before sending it back. The turning monster slammed into his face, and the first-person perspective caused the entire screen to be filled with the rotten flesh of the zombie, which was extremely disgusting. Qian Cheng was directly knocked to the ground by the zombie.
He pushed the zombie away and quickly got up, but a zombie hugged his thigh and started gnawing on it with a mouthful of rotten teeth. Qian Cheng waved his battle lance and beat it up until it was dead. But then the sound of bones grinding against each other rang in his ears. He didn't know when he had entered the aggro range of a skeleton monster, and the skeleton monster was rushing towards him with a large blade in its hand.
"Don't you like stealing monsters? Have fun." Lord Grim greeted him. Qian Cheng quickly looked over, and saw that this guy had already gathered four monsters in such a short time. At this moment, he used a Falling Flower Palm, and all four monsters smashed towards Qian Cheng together.
