Chapter 1978: Chapter 1914: Don’t Kick the Door Down
Chiang Xiao couldn’t help but be torn between crying and laughing.
Should she perhaps praise this woman for still speaking so calmly and courteously at this moment?
To patiently wait?
Wait until she finishes her meal and then come to let her out?
By now, Chiang Xiao had no faith in the woman’s words at all.
This woman was truly someone who could lie without blinking, without even preparing a draft.
The room’s fragrance was becoming increasingly distinct.
Maybe it was because the door was closed, making the room sealed off.
"If you open the door now, I can overlook this, and pretend as if nothing happened," Chiang Xiao said to the woman outside the door, "However, if you don’t open the door now, we’re going to have a serious conflict. Let me tell you, in our place, there’s a saying: it’s dishonorable not to avenge a grudge."
The woman’s delightful chuckle drifted in from outside the door.
Then, there were sounds of her brisk footsteps.
She didn’t even respond to Chiang Xiao and quickly walked away.
"Damn it."
Chiang Xiao pounded the door once, not dwelling on it, instead glancing around.
There were no windows in this room.
Aside from the long table in the center and the twelve chairs around it, there were mirrored walls to the right, and all along the left were rows of shelves filled with various small bottles - glazed, glass, porcelain, wooden carvings, in all sorts of styles.
What were these things?
Chiang Xiao walked over, picked up a bottle, carefully twisted it open, and sniffed it; a strong floral scent wafted out.
She remembered what Pheng Fei had told her earlier, that Mr. Wen Li’s back manor was full of flower fields, and the flowers from these fields were used to make perfumes and essential oils. This thought suddenly sparked something in her heart.
Could these be samples of perfume and essential oil?
Were they already on the market, or were some yet to be released?
The difference between the two was significant.
If they were already on the market, staying here wouldn’t matter.
But, if these were still in the research stage, her presence here would be rather hard to explain.
Chiang Xiao immediately began to question the intentions of that woman.
This room had no windows, how could she get out?
Chiang Xiao’s expression darkened.
If it was just a prank by that woman, perhaps she’d only give her a slap, but if her intentions were truly malicious and harmful, then she wouldn’t blame herself for retaliating ruthlessly.
Chiang Xiao really couldn’t tell if she naturally attracted trouble or just had bad luck, as she’d only been in Country Y for two days, and neither day had been smooth.
She reached into the space, took out a bottle of Spirit Spring Water, and drank it. It immediately cleared and eased her heavy head, burdened by the complex scents here.
If she didn’t have the space, she’d have to kick the door open by now, but since she did have it, she decided to see just what kind of trick that woman was playing.
Chiang Xiao took another careful turn around, observing, finding no danger, and went to the door, leaning her back against it, then slipped into the space.
Once inside the space, she sat by the Medicinal Garden, paying attention to the disturbances outside.
Meanwhile, Pheng Fei was urgently questioning the maid in front of him.
"You really haven’t seen Miss Chiang?"
"Mr. Arthur, after I went upstairs, I knocked on the door, but there was no response from inside. I tried pushing the door; it wasn’t locked, and Miss Chiang wasn’t in the room."
"Have you searched?"
"I’ve looked everywhere except for the east side of the second floor and the third floor, but I couldn’t find Miss Chiang. Mr. Arthur, could she have gone to the Flower Field? You know, young girls who come here can’t resist the allure of the flower fields."
