Chapter 10 Face is Never Given by Others
More than an hour of gym class.
The students didn't go home for lunch. After a short rest, they had to continue with their classes.
After showering and changing back into his smart school uniform with a tie, Su Yehao went with Nangong Tian to the cafeteria and ordered three dishes and a soup.
The cafeteria looked almost like a Michelin restaurant, with an elegant and luxurious atmosphere. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, they could even see a small hill.
Braised oxtail in red wine, stir-fried clams Western style, Portuguese chicken, and a seaweed soup.
Using the excuse that his throat was uncomfortable, Su Yehao was uncharacteristically quiet today. This was mainly because he didn't remember many of the people and things Nangong Tian mentioned.
Nangong Tian, on the other hand, seemed happy to talk.
In their relationship, she was clearly the proactive one, open and straightforward, not hiding her desire to possess Su Yehao.
From another perspective, this was like trying to acquire a sizable listed company. Nangong Tian certainly had the capital to do so, attracting the attention of countless male students just by sitting there.
For the moment, being unfamiliar with the situation, Su Yehao was slightly restrained.
After all, he had never been pursued by a beauty of this caliber before, and his way of thinking hadn't completely changed yet. It would take some time to adjust.
Of course, sitting across from an eye-pleasing young lady and being envied by others was quite enjoyable...
Just then.
Not far away, Huang Zewen walked into the restaurant with his lackeys, acting all high and mighty.
Spotting something, Huang Zewen walked straight to a weak-looking boy eating alone, patted him on the head, and teased, "Are you kidding me? You can actually afford to eat on the second floor? This meal must cost you ten days' living expenses, earning scholarships isn't easy, mainland bumpkin!"
This wasn't teasing anymore, it was downright humiliating.
Especially the last three words. As soon as Su Yehao heard them, he immediately looked over.
The male student being rubbed on the head by Huang Zewen looked about sixteen or seventeen years old, thin and fair-skinned. He was one of their classmates, and he was keeping his head down without saying a word.
Su Yehao knew Huang Zewen wasn't a good guy before, but now he seemed even worse than expected. He immediately wiped his mouth, stood up, approached them, slapped Huang Zewen's hand away, and deliberately said arrogantly, "This... guy is under my protection. What's the point of bullying people? Picking on the weak?"
Unfortunately, Su Yehao couldn't remember the name of the bullied student, so he ended up calling him "guy."
Huang Zewen had been bullying this transfer student from the mainland for more than just a day or two. He was slightly surprised that Su Yehao would stick his neck out, and he waved his hand, saying, "What bad luck, you're everywhere. Your family is about to lose billions, so you win this time, I'll give you face!"
His voice was so loud that almost everyone could hear him.
Huang Zewen was afraid others wouldn't know that Su Yehao's family's business was in trouble, so he shouted about "losing billions," making it impossible for others not to hear.
Immediately, students began to whisper and ask what was going on, though no one dared to be too loud, mainly because they were afraid of Su Yehao.
Most of the students at this elite school were rich or noble.
But very few were as wealthy as the Su family. In the past, there were only a handful of people who could compete with Su Yehao, the only son, and some of them had already graduated.
The surrounding noise suddenly increased, and Su Yehao rolled his eyes, simply saying, "How childish!"
Huang Zewen thought he was just being stubborn.
Having achieved his goal and feeling like he had won, he happily went to order food, feeling great.
…
Casually pulling out a chair.
Su Yehao sat down in front of the student who had just been bullied, crossed his legs, and asked in an annoyed tone:
"Where are you from in the mainland? If you don't want to be looked down upon, you need to toughen up. Next time that Huang guy acts up, just punch him directly. I'll back you up if you get into trouble. There aren't many mainlanders in this school, so you represent them. You can't lose your spirit, or your face."
This fair-looking student looked up at Su Yehao and said with a wry smile, "I'm from Pengcheng. It wasn't easy for my parents to send me here to study, so I'd rather avoid trouble. Offending him will only make things worse. Besides... you're not a good person either. You used to bully me a lot."
Su Yehao didn't expect this at all and was speechless for a moment. "I've turned over a new leaf. I'm talking about Huang Zewen, don't change the subject. From now on, walk with your head held high. If anyone bullies you, beat them to death. Even if your family's circumstances aren't the best, you should still have the spirit of a fierce dragon crossing the river."
"I'm not familiar with this place. If I could lure him back to Pengcheng, I'd have my brother ambush him. When I left, I promised my parents that I wouldn't cause any trouble. There are a lot of gangsters here, and it's easy to get into trouble. I've seen a lot of Hong Kong movies, and they can be ruthless. But you're right, I can't let my fellow townsmen down. Next time he targets me, I'll definitely pay him back."
The young man smiled, extended his hand, and said, "My name is Wei Jiang, I'm nineteen years old. If I remember correctly, we've been in the same class for over a year, and this is the first time you've spoken to me properly."
From Wei Jiang, Su Yehao sensed a maturity beyond his years, unlike ordinary teenagers.
It's said that children from poor families mature early, which seemed normal. The current environment in the north couldn't compare to the era he lived in. It was just the early stages of revitalization.
Su Yehao looked at him and asked, "Nineteen years old? You don't look like it."
"I was born prematurely as a child, had heart surgery, and developed slower than my peers. I'm sickly, so I can't get angry," Wei Jiang replied with a smile.
Nodding.
Making eye contact with Nangong Tian, Su Yehao waved goodbye and went back to eat with her.
Nangong Tian had known Su Yehao since she was a child and knew him relatively well. She asked curiously, "Is that your friend? I often see you bullying others, but rarely see you sticking up for people. You're quite handsome when you're serious. I think I need to get to know you again."
She spoke with a smile in her voice, her eyes curved in a beautiful way.
Su Yehao shook his head and casually said, "He's a student from the mainland, alone and helpless. I don't know him, but I'll help if I can. It's good to have more friends."
Nangong Tian had heard her mother mention Su Lao's investment problems a few days ago, and she wasn't surprised like the other students.
Seeing many people looking over, Nangong Tian continued, "That's right, it's good to have more friends. That bastard Huang has been chasing my friend recently, and he almost succeeded in getting her drunk on purpose. What he said just now... aren't you angry?"
"Why should I be angry? What good would explaining do?"
Taking a sip of soup, feeling completely full, Su Yehao rubbed his stomach and added, "Face is never given by others, it's earned through your own ability. If there's trouble at home, just solve it. I'm actually quite capable, I just haven't shown it before."
This time, Nangong Tian's values were truly shaken. She looked at him for a long time before saying with a smile, "Brother Hao has finally grown up. You're a little handsome, I'm quite smitten."
"Just a little handsome?"
Nangong Tian giggled and said, "Especially handsome, incredibly handsome, okay?"
