Chapter 1849: Chapter 1849: Stealing Money (6)
The sun had already tilted westward, yet the Hai Dongqing sent to deliver the letter had not returned.
Emperor Xuanjing was displeased; did Yuan Country think so little of Daxuan?
Cold sweat continuously dripped from Jiu E’s forehead; he could only explain that accidents can happen even with eagle messengers.
“If that’s the case, let’s not discuss it.” Emperor Xuanjing waved impatiently. “When you no longer have accidents, we can talk again.” He then glanced at Eunuch Lan, “Escort Envoy Jiang out of the Palace, and return only with definite news.” Then he left.
“Envoy Jiang, this way please.” Eunuch Lan bowed respectfully to Jiu E.
Jiu E was dumbfounded. What situation was this? He was an envoy, entitled to reside within the Palace.
But it was only when he had exited the Palace gates that he realized the Emperor of Daxuan was no longer accommodating him. He could come and go as he pleased, but would have to pay for his own lodging and meals from then on.
Is there such a thing?
Yet Emperor Xuanjing went ahead and did it.
“Sir, what should we do?” The accompanying envoy from Yuan Country asked, bewildered.
“What else can we do?” Jiu E gritted his teeth. “Let’s first find a place to stay.” Without the Emperor’s word, he couldn’t even stay at the Imperial Post Stations, so he had to either pay for an inn himself or rent or buy a courtyard.
He had brought some silver and could comfortably spend half a year, if needed.
However, since it was already late, they could only find lodging at an inn for the night.
With no more matches to observe, the ministers who had waited all afternoon began to leave the Palace one by one.
“Isn’t that Envoy Jiang and his entourage?” Yang Ruxin peered out from the carriage and spotted Jiu E and his group entering a rather nice inn.
“Wife, what do you have in mind?” With no tasks at the moment, Gu Qingheng sat alongside Yang Ruxin in the carriage, amused as he noticed the playful gleam in her eyes.
“He’s so brazen to come to our place; we ought to teach him a lesson, don’t you think?” Yang Ruxin stroked her chin, “How about letting them taste what it’s like to have no money?”
“If you think it’s good, then it’s good.”
Yang Ruxin pinched Gu Qingheng’s cheek, “I just love how you’re so unprincipled.”
“I’m only unprincipled when it comes to you.” Gu Qingheng seized the opportunity and pulled her over for a fierce kiss, unable to resist any longer. He would have continued if he hadn’t been pushed away.
“Enough fooling around, there’s serious business to attend to.” Yang Ruxin said as she whipped Xiaolun out, tossing it directly.
Gu Qingheng’s mouth twitched.
Xiaolun couldn’t complain; this woman was becoming more violent towards it, yet complaints or no, it soon vanished without a trace.
“Can it steal money?”
“Don’t underestimate him; he’s quite strong.” Yang Ruxin nodded, then called over Mark, “Keep an eye on them, and report any actions at once.”
Mark nodded and left.
Xiaolun’s efficiency was truly remarkable; it returned just as their carriage reached the General Residence, bringing back not just itself but also two pouches hanging from its tail.
One pouch contained silver notes worth thirty thousand taels, while the other held a stamp.
“With this gone,” Gu Qingheng stamped the stamp onto paper; it clearly read Jiang’s name, “Jiang won’t be able to withdraw any money from the bank; now he’s truly penniless, and returning home will be even more difficult.” He said, suddenly holding the stamp up towards the lit lantern by the door.
