Chapter 970 Followers in Full Power Mode

Chapter 1 A Plop

* * *

Plop!

The pioneer's bisected body crashed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust. Large patches of charred blackness marked the severed point of the mangled remains.

Although nascent flesh was sprouting from the blackened wound, it was happening at a glacial pace.

Yes, though the Follower's attack had shattered the pioneer's upper body, it had failed to kill him, failing to destroy his life's flaw.

Given a little more time, the pioneer would recover.

But for the short term, he was in no condition to continue fighting. For at least half an hour, he could offer no aid to his teammates.

The damage wrought by the spear of lightning was immense. Though half of the pioneer's body remained, nearly all of the internal flesh had been scorched away!

"Damn it!" The captain frowned at the sight, his steel blade descending even faster.

His combat boots ejected a burst of compressed gas, allowing him to briefly hover and forcibly alter his attack trajectory.

"Quite agile..." The Follower said with a sneer, observing the pioneer's movements. "Useless, though!"

Whoosh!

The captain saw a blur before his eyes, and the Follower was gone from beneath his blade. At the same time, an icy voice echoed from behind, "Die!"

It had gotten behind him?

The captain didn't turn, instead delivering a backhanded strike.

Clang!

He felt his blade meet the opponent's armor, a metallic vibration shaking through him. Then, he felt his blade pierce the armor, stabbing into the opponent's body!

But before he could celebrate, an indescribable burning pain surged through his weapon-bearing right arm!

Crack!

A bolt of lightning descended, engulfing the captain's entire arm.

"Ah!" The captain roared in agony, rapidly distancing himself from the Follower. He turned to see his weapon arm charred black, the flesh withered and dead, leaving only a twig-like bone connected to his shoulder.

The Follower, though pierced through the chest, seemed unfazed. It casually wiped the wound on its armor, looked up again, and sneered, "How does that feel? Comfortable?"

The captain plummeted from the sky, his brow twitching wildly with pain and fury.

"You two hundred used to suppress our three thousand plus Followers from three tribes. Back then, you must have felt so strong, and we must have seemed so weak, right?" The Follower stood atop the flyer, not pursuing the captain, but looking down upon him as it spat out each word, "I'll make you understand that your victory back then was nothing more than relying on the sharpness of your weapons..."

"Now, I'll let you taste the same bitterness!"

"Angry? Feeling it's unfair? Good, that's exactly how we felt back then!" The Follower grinned, watching the captain's expression. "Come on! I will crush your confidence, and then, kill you!"

"Aren't you known as humanity's strongest blade, its greatest protector? Today, I will kill all the humans in the city behind you, right before your eyes. I'll let you witness the destruction of everything you swore to protect, so that the entire human civilization knows that your so-called strongest blade is nothing but a joke to us!" The Follower's voice was filled with contempt and vengeful glee. Instead of continuing its assault on the pioneers, it turned towards Southeast City with a sneer and steered the flyer into the city.

It raised its spear of lightning, and with a mighty heave, hurled it at the city walls.

With a deafening roar, the already cracked city wall completely collapsed, leaving a gaping hole!

Snap!

The Follower retrieved its spear, not even glancing back at the pioneers. It headed straight into the city to wreak havoc.

Boom!

Boom!

Once the Follower entered the city, it was like a tiger among sheep. Wielding the spear of lightning, it unleashed a relentless torrent of energy bullets, causing buildings to crumble and soldiers to fall, wailing in agony.

"Look! Look! This is our true power! Let you feel the humiliation we've endured for so long!" The Follower laughed maniacally, a trail of ruined walls and rubble marking its path.

Inside the command center, officers watched the approaching Follower with frantic eyes, their voices trembling as they spoke, "Commander, request support from the Wild Breath Island! Have them send the Kunlun dreadnought!"

The commander clenched his fists, his head snapping towards the speaker with a fierce glare. He spoke icily, "What did you say? You're saying that we need to request support from Wild Breath Island to face a single enemy?"

"Don't you think that's a humiliation worse than death?"

"The ancient civilization has thousands of members. If we have to request assistance from the Kunlun dreadnought every time a Follower invades, even tearing it apart wouldn't be enough to meet the needs of the human world!"

"If our army, this city, can't even stop a single Follower, then what's the point of our existence?" The commander's face was etched with fierce determination as he watched the approaching Follower. "Today, no one is allowed to leave, and no one is allowed to request support from Wild Breath Island!"

"Even if it means death, we won't allow it!"

* * *

The Follower stared at the command building in the distance, its next target. Destroying that building and killing the commanders inside would shatter the city's morale and rob the pioneers of their confidence.

Behind it, eleven pioneers were giving chase, but they were far too slow to catch up with the flyer-mounted Follower.

The Follower's gaze seemed to penetrate the thick walls of the building, seeing the fear in the eyes of those within.

A cold smile crept across its face as it raised its spear and charged towards the building in a savage manner.

But just as its body was about to collide with the building, a mech warrior shot up from below, blocking the building like a wall of steel.

Boom!

The Follower and the mech warrior collided with a violent crash!

The screech of mangled metal echoed as the mech warrior slammed into the building!

In this clash, the mech warrior was at a disadvantage!

Although the Follower charged straight on while the mech warrior had launched from the ground, lacking the full force of its momentum, the outcome was still shocking.

In past wars, the mech warriors had been dominant against all enemies except the apostles. But now, the situation seemed to be changing.
