895: Chapter 888: Disturbing the Funeral!
The So-Called Relatives!
The night was cool as water.
In the black night sky hung a bright moon, its silver light spilling down.
Inside a room of a hotel, Wu Jie lay quietly on the bed, while Ye Chenfeng, Sun Hengfei, Sun Xiaoli, and Fang Nanxiang sat on a sofa beside the bed.
After Ye Chenfeng had found Wu Jie in Zhu Maode’s office desk cabinet, he had disarmed and destroyed the time bomb on Wu Jie, then took Wu Jie out of Zhu Maode’s office and back to their hotel.
“Xiaoli, is that girl’s emotions still stable?” Ye Chenfeng suddenly remembered Zhang Xinran and couldn’t help but ask Sun Xiaoli.
Sun Xiaoli nodded and said, “Xinran’s emotions are fairly stable.
Maybe because she’s too tired, after I helped her bathe, she lay in bed and fell asleep.
She’s really a pitiable girl!”
“Ye, tomorrow I would like to hold a simple funeral for Dafei and his wife, and early tomorrow I will also help them choose a grave plot.
Dafei once told me that if he died one day, he would definitely want a plot that backs onto mountains and faces water,” Fang Nanxiang said with sorrow filling his eyes.
Ye Chenfeng also agreed with Fang Nanxiang’s suggestion.
Now that he had found Xue Ying, and Xue Ying would find him voluntarily in two days, these two days were empty for Ye Chenfeng.
Zhang Dafei was a part of the Victory Sky Society after all, and in a way, Ye Chenfeng had indirectly led them into this situation, so holding a funeral for Zhang Dafei and Qian Huilan was something he felt obliged to do.
“Alright, Fang, let Xiaoli accompany you to choose the grave plot tomorrow, while I will stay with Xinran to set up the mourning hall.
Before Zhang Dafei died, I promised him that I would treat Xinran as my own sister,” Ye Chenfeng’s mood was also downcast.
“Ah!” Fang Nanxiang sighed and said, “Ye, Xue Ying is simply a madman.
How many innocent people are killed just for this perplexing game he plays with you?
I never imagined this lunatic has always been among us, and Wu Jie was just locked in Zhu Maode’s office.
Now that I think about it, I feel a chill in my heart.”
“Chenfeng, Xue Ying will take the initiative to find you in two days, right?
When that time comes, you must bring us along.
Who knows what kind of things a madman like that could do?
Even though we’re not as strong as you, we might be able to make a difference at a crucial moment,” Sun Hengfei said with determination.
“Yes, Ye, that Xue Ying is a madman, but I can be even crazier than him.
I must seek revenge for Dafei and his wife; I must avenge all the brothers of the Victory Sky Society,” Fang Nanxiang said without hesitation.
“Enough, that’s all two days from now, let’s concentrate on arranging tomorrow’s funeral properly first!” Ye Chenfeng didn’t want Sun Hengfei and the others to take risks with him, so he could only put them off for now.
Just as Sun Hengfei was about to emphasize his point, Wu Jie, lying in the bed, began to flutter his eyelids.
Soon after, he opened his eyes.
Ye Chenfeng had already checked Wu Jie’s body, and there was nothing seriously wrong, aside from being a bit weak.
As long as Wu Jie rested in bed for a couple more days, he would be fine.
Wu Jie, with bewildered eyes upon waking, couldn’t help but ask when he saw Ye Chenfeng, “Brother-in-law?
Why are you here?
Where am I?”
Afterward, Ye Chenfeng briefly explained the situation to Wu Jie, who was extremely shocked and anxiously said, “Brother-in-law, I’m lucky you were here, or else I might already be meeting the King of Hell by now.”
“Xiao Jie, it’s all in the past now, don’t dwell on it too much.
Just rest well in the hotel for a couple of days, and when we return to Capital City, you’ll go back with us,” Ye Chenfeng patted Wu Jie’s shoulder and comforted him.
Turning, he spoke to Sun Hengfei, “Heng Fei, the funeral arrangements for Dafei and his wife can be handled by us tomorrow.
You stay in the hotel to look after Jie.
I don’t want any accidents happening now.”
Sun Hengfei agreed, “Okay, Chenfeng, I’ll stay in the hotel tomorrow.”
…
The sun rose in the east!
Early the next morning, while the sky was still dawning, Fang Nanxiang and Sun Xiaoli went to choose a burial site for Zhang Dafei and his wife.
Sun Hengfei stayed in the hotel looking after Wu Jie, while Ye Chenfeng, led by Zhang Xinran, arrived at the Zhang residence.
On the journey there, Zhang Xinran, the girl, did not speak a word, her face void of any expression.
Upon returning to the Zhang family villa, she and Ye Chenfeng began setting up the hall in the villa as a mourning hall, naturally, the bodies of Zhang Dafei and Qian Huilan had also been brought back to the Zhang home, now quietly lying inside two coffins at the center of the mourning hall.
With combined efforts from Ye Chenfeng and Zhang Xinran, the villa’s hall was quickly turned into a proper mourning hall.
Zhang Xinran stared at the coffins holding Zhang Dafei and Qian Huilan, lost in thought.
As a seventeen-year-old and the daughter of the head of Capital City’s Victory Sky Society, she had been akin to a joyous little princess; who in Capital City would dare to bully her?
But life is unpredictable.
Within a single night, everything had changed drastically.
She had lost her parents, and all the uncles in Victory Sky Society who doted on her were gone, making her feel that the whole world had suddenly become a place where she was left utterly alone.
Whether it was on the way back to the Zhang family villa or while setting up the mourning hall, Zhang Xinran never initiated a conversation with Ye Chenfeng.
After all, she and Ye Chenfeng were not familiar with each other, and he hadn’t made his way into her heart.
“Xinran, you’re my sister from now on, Ye Chenfeng’s sister.
I won’t let anyone bully you from now on.
You don’t have to be too sad.
I think if your parents are watching from heaven, they wouldn’t want to see you fragile and fearful.
They want to see you strong and happy,” Ye Chenfeng comforted Zhang Xinran.
Zhang Xinran, her gaze fixed unblinkingly on the coffins of her parents, bit her lower lip tightly and said softly, “Yes, I’ll be strong.
I’ll be stronger than everyone else.
I won’t let my parents in heaven worry about me.”
Looking at the seventeen-year-old girl, biting her lip, clenching her fists, stubborn and sad, Ye Chenfeng felt uneasy in his heart.
He could only sigh helplessly, knowing that Zhang Xinran would not be able to step out of the shadow of her parents’ passing any time soon.
Zhang Xinran hadn’t had breakfast early in the morning.
Just as Ye Chenfeng was about to ask whether she was hungry, two middle-aged men who were over the age of forty walked in.
These two men bore a resemblance to Zhang Dafei.
The taller one was Zhang Dafei’s elder brother Zhang Dachun, and the shorter one was his second brother, Zhang Dahong.
After Zhang Dafei became the head of Victory Sky Society, Zhang Dachun and Zhang Dahong had come to him more than once, requesting high-ranking positions within Victory Sky Society.
Unfortunately, Zhang Dafei was a fair man who believed that neither of his elder brothers were suitable for the society.
Thus, he firmly rejected Zhang Dachun and Zhang Dahong, causing deep resentment from the two brothers towards Zhang Dafei.
The massacre at the headquarters of Victory Sky Society had become a hot topic throughout Capital City.
As Zhang Dafei’s brothers, Zhang Dachun and Zhang Dahong, had of course learned about the incident.
Knowing this, they had someone secretly watch the Zhang family villa.
Upon learning that Zhang Xinran had returned home alive, they immediately rushed to the villa.
Now that Zhang Dafei and Qian Huilan were dead, leaving only their young niece, these two brothers certainly wanted to take advantage of the situation.
Ye Chenfeng frowned when he saw Zhang Dachun and Zhang Dahong, as he didn’t see any grief on their faces but instead a faint glimmer of joy.
He immediately concluded that these two had come to cause trouble at the funeral.
Zhang Xinran, standing beside Ye Chenfeng, stepped forward after seeing her two uncles.
She well understood what kind of men her uncles were and, turning to Ye Chenfeng, said softly, “These two are my big uncle and second uncle.
It’s a family matter, and I want to handle it myself.”
Zhang Xinran bit her lip tightly.
Because of her parents’ death, she forced herself to grow up quickly.
