Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Continuing the Date
As we returned to Nazarick, the familiar, pristine halls of my domain greeted us with their cold elegance. The moment we arrived, Shalltear suddenly stepped forward and hugged me tightly. Her slender arms wrapped around me, and I could feel the trembling in her grip.
"Lord Alex," she murmured, her voice uncharacteristically soft. "I thought something had happened to you. I—I’m sorry for acting impulsively, but I couldn’t bear the thought of you being taken away."
I gently patted her head, her platinum hair soft under my touch. "It’s alright, Shalltear. I understand your intentions, but next time, wait for my command before acting."
She pulled back slightly, her crimson eyes glistening with what could only be described as relief. "Yes, my lord. I promise to be more careful."
As Shalltear stepped aside, Lupusregina smirked, her ever-playful demeanor returning. "Shalltear hugging Lord Alex? Now that’s a sight I didn’t expect today."
"Enough," I said, waving a hand. "Lupus, stop teasing her. There’s something I need to know. Shalltear, where is Yuki?"
"She’s still at the Butterfly Mansion," Shalltear replied. "When you used your Super-Tier Magic, the Demon Slayer Corps was thrown into a panic. They’ve never seen anything like that before. Yuki stayed behind to explain the situation and keep them calm."
I sighed. The Super-Tier Magic I’d used to darken the skies and fight Akaza must have looked like a divine calamity to the Demon Slayers. No wonder they were unsettled. "I see. She’s handling the situation well, then?"
"Yes, my lord. It seems like Yuki is very good at diplomatic stuff. Of course she is; after all, your vampire bride. Shalltear said, pride evident in her voice.
"Good. I trust she can resolve things there." I glanced at the two of them, noting their lingering tension. "Now, I need to return to Mitsuri. I left her in the cafeteria, and I doubt she’s finished with her meal yet."
Lupusregina let out a low chuckle. "A date with a human? You are something else, my Lord."
I ignored her teasing, though I couldn’t help the small smirk that crept onto my face. "Make yourselves useful while I’m gone. Shalltear, Lupus. Tell Albedo I will Sixth Floor after I leave the the cafeteria."
They both bowed deeply. "As you wish, Lord Alex."
With that, I opened another gate, the swirling vortex humming softly as it connected to the cafeteria. I stepped through and found myself back in the warm, bustling room where Mitsuri was still seated, finishing her last dish.
Mitsuri’s eyes lit up the moment she saw me, her face breaking into a radiant smile. "Alex-san! You’re back!"
I nodded, approaching her table. "Did you enjoy the food?"
She clasped her hands together, her cheeks flushed with excitement. "It was amazing! I’ve never had anything like it before. Everything was so delicious!"
I took a seat across from her, leaning back slightly. "I’m glad. Nazarick’s chefs are some of the best in existence. They can create almost anything you can imagine."
Her eyes sparkled with wonder. "That’s incredible! You’re so lucky to have them. Oh, and... is everything okay? You left so suddenly."
I waved a hand dismissively. "It was nothing serious. Just a misunderstanding that needed to be cleared up. Everything’s fine now."
She sighed in relief, then hesitated, her expression becoming slightly shy. "Um... thank you for bringing me here, Alex-san. This has been one of the best days I’ve had in... a long time."
Her genuine gratitude tugged at something deep within me. It wasn’t often that someone expressed such simple, heartfelt appreciation. "You’re welcome, Mitsuri. But the day isn’t over yet."
She tilted her head in curiosity. "It’s not?"
I smiled. "Not even close. There’s still so much more I’d like to show you."
Her cheeks turned a soft shade of pink, and she nodded eagerly. "I’d love that!"
