Chapter 736 Ambush

The alertness of Mingmei and the others was indeed necessary.

"Enemy attack!! Enemy attack—!"

Mingmei and the others were chatting idly in the channel when suddenly Mingmei felt a white light from the sky through her mech's visual sensors, momentarily blinding her.

The public channel, used for casual gossip, was usually quiet, with everyone keeping their voices low.

But suddenly, the dramatically increased volume, coupled with the white light, and the hoarse shout of a senior in the communication channel, followed by a long burst of static, instantly jolted everyone awake!

"Retreat now! Enemy attack!!"

Then, screams erupted from everywhere, stunning everyone as they looked towards the sky.

Originally, the rows of mechs and battle starships above them were now turning into patches of light and fire.

As countless fragments fell around her, Mingmei was completely unable to react.

"What are you waiting for? Move!"

The captain's voice rang out again beside Mingmei. She dazedly watched as a large number of mechs retreated.

Seeing the flames and debris surrounding the falling mechs, Mingmei unconsciously felt her cheeks get wet.

She raised a hand to her face and realized she was already in tears.

"What on earth is happening…"

Mingmei still couldn't believe that the army above her had been turned into this, the scene of instant destruction was one of the few nightmares she had ever experienced.

A pink figure flashed past her, and Mingmei recognized it as Lu Xiaoyao's mech, Fen Dai, rushing to the front lines for rescue.

At this moment, Lu Xiaoyao's mech was carrying two badly damaged but still occupied cockpits, the wreckage of a mech falling rapidly.

The way Lu Xiaoyao was plummeting didn't look like she was rushing down on her own; it looked more like she had been hit and was crashing down hard.

Even as she was about to crash into the ground, Lu Xiaoyao was still holding the cockpits tightly in her arms.

In the nick of time, Mingmei caught a glimpse out of the corner of her eye, and her body reacted instantly.

Mingmei suddenly steered her mech out of the retreating formation, flashing to a position halfway along Lu Xiaoyao's trajectory.

With a loud clang, everyone saw Mingmei intercepting a streak of silver light.

They were stunned when they took a closer look!

It was a Liu Ying (firefly) that was even larger than the ones they had seen before.

"It's that insect general! Oh my god!"

Mingmei's actions naturally attracted the attention of others around her.

They all saw Mingmei sprint and flash to a position where she blocked the Liu Ying, which was so fast that no one could see it coming!

"Retreat now!"

None of them dared to rush forward, especially since their current goal was to retreat.

As soon as Mingmei recognized the insect general, she was once again engaged in battle with it. As she fought, she realized how fast it really was.

[Warning: Host mech has sustained 40% damage]

"Oh my god, 40%?!"

When Mingmei heard Guigui's warning, which was even faster than the mech's own warning, she gritted her teeth and ignored it, instead facing the challenge head-on, continuing to fight the incredibly fast Liu Ying.

Having the first experience of being (ai) beaten (da), Mingmei now had plenty of experience.

Even though the opponent was faster and stronger, Mingmei still managed to dodge its attacks several times.

However, even so, Mingmei's mech could no longer withstand another fatal blow.

After all, 40% damage from the first attack, the next attack would likely leave her with only 20%.

With only 20% left, was there any chance her mech would remain intact?

The second attack could very well shatter it completely.

As for Mu Chen, he reported in immediately during the retreat and headed towards Mingmei.

It was an indescribable hunch that told him that Mingmei's retreat wouldn't be smooth.

Sure enough, when he arrived on the scene, Mingmei's seniors were already anxious and frantic, unable to stop the Liu Ying's attacks on Mingmei even with remote assistance.

"Seniors, let me!"

Mu Chen greeted them and immediately rushed forward.

Knowing the relationship between Mingmei and Mu Chen, the seniors didn't object.

Some of them knew Mu Chen's strength and the coordination between him and Mingmei, having seen it in simulated battles at the base several times.

It had to be said, they were incredibly strong!

Mingmei and Mu Chen coordinated remarkably well, one providing remote attacks to disrupt the enemy, the other engaging the Liu Ying in close combat.

The effect was astonishing, and even the Liu Ying was startled several times by Mu Chen's sudden, precise missiles.

It believed its speed was unpredictable, but it didn't understand why the other's attacks were always so accurate.

This infuriated the Liu Ying. As it fought Mingmei, it suddenly changed its strategy and charged directly towards Mu Chen.

Seeing this, Mingmei refused to give it the chance to change targets, and she pursued it relentlessly, finally delivering a kick.

The Liu Ying ignored everything at this point, taking Mingmei's kick head-on in order to attack Mu Chen.

Mu Chen, who was using a weapon platform, was unable to dodge in time and had most of his weapon platform destroyed.

This kick destroyed the most powerful weapon on Mu Chen's platform.

"Achen, are you alright?"

Seeing that the opponent had smashed half of Mu Chen's weapon platform, Mingmei immediately followed up with another kick, this time sending the Liu Ying flying!

Mingmei breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that Su Bo was not visibly damaged.

Unfortunately, this meant that Mu Chen's combat power would be greatly reduced.

"I'm fine."

Mu Chen also realized that the Liu Ying insect general was so fierce.

He looked fine, and Su Bo seemed undamaged overall, but the weapon platform was also part of his mech, and his mech's cockpit had clearly told him that it was 20% damaged and needed immediate repair.

Repairing the mech was no problem, but Mu Chen also knew that what he needed now was not to repair the mech, but to reload ammunition.

"Hurry up and leave!"

Mingmei's last kick was not light.

Because they were floating in the air, the Liu Ying insect general was kicked a long distance away by Mingmei.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, several seniors began urging Mingmei and Mu Chen to retreat quickly.

Mingmei still wanted to know what was happening above, but seeing that everyone was retreating, and that many had already retreated from the front lines,

Even the intact starships and mechs were no longer resisting and were retreating one after another, Mingmei knew that this was not the best time to fight.

If she hindered others from retreating and something happened, she would be held responsible.

Hearing the command channel filled with orders to return to defense, she understood that they had to retreat immediately.

But in that case, all of them would be like turtles in a jar to the insectoids…
