Chapter 938: Chapter 937: In Hand

Wufu stopped at the entrance of the study.

"What’s wrong?" Ah Jiu asked.

"You go in first," Wufu gestured with her mouth, "I’ll check over there."

Ah Jiu followed her gaze to a fish pond rockery. What’s so interesting there?

But thinking that she didn’t know what to look for either, Ah Jiu nodded and quickly entered the study.

Who knows when Zhao Mingjun might return. They needed to act swiftly.

They split up to handle different tasks.

Wufu walked to the rockery. Below it was a small fish pond where a few koi fish were joyfully swimming.

She walked around the rockery, looked at the Moon Viewing Pavilion, and tilted her head slightly as if pondering something.

After circling it a few times, Wufu stopped, focusing on a particular inconspicuous spot on the rockery, touched evidently by many before. She felt it with her hand, pressed, no reaction, then twisted.

Creaaaak creaaaak.

Wufu was startled. The entire rockery and fish pond slowly moved to the left, revealing an entrance just wide enough for a person. Squatting down to look through the entrance, she saw a staircase inside.

Wufu pursed her lips and made a bird call. Ah Jiu quickly emerged from the study, saw what was happening, and paused in surprise.

The two exchanged a glance, and Wufu said, "Shall we split up again? I’ll go down?"

"No, since there’s a mystery here, there probably isn’t anything particularly important left in the study. Let’s not waste time," Ah Jiu shook his head, glanced at the entrance, and went down first, Wufu following behind.

Inside, there was indeed another mystery: a large hidden chamber furnished with a desk, bookshelves, and a few chairs.

Ah Jiu went to the desk to look around, carefully rifling through the items atop it, while Wufu went to the bookshelf, moving documents and books.

The books here were not ordinary ones but rare copies. Wufu casually pulled one out.

Unexpectedly, there was another noise, and Ah Jiu quickly pulled her behind.

The bookshelf moved backward, revealing a door fit for only one person. Wufu said, "How many contraptions does Zhao Mingjun have here? So mysterious."

Ah Jiu chuckled lightly. This secret chamber was studded with Luminous Pearls, providing adequate light without additional need for illumination. Walking through the door, there was yet another large secret chamber, filled with boxes upon boxes of gold and silver jewelry and other valuables.

"Wow, Gold Sand!" Wufu exclaimed at the sight of two boxes of Gold Sand and more boxes of gold.

Ah Jiu paid no mind to these and scanned the chamber, approaching a display stand. Picking up a sandalwood box and opening it.

Inside was a stack of letters and ledgers. His eyes brightened slightly as he took one out and glanced over it, his breathing slightly tense. He pocketed a few letters and took a ledger too, returning the box to its original place.

Turning around, he saw Wufu looking around and then standing before a portrait of a beauty. She lifted it, revealing a button behind the painting.

Curiosity piqued, she pressed it, opening yet another door, but this one revealed only a passage.

"There’s air flowing through and a breeze, where do you think this passage leads?" Wufu looked at Ah Jiu.

Ah Jiu replied, "Probably an escape route or some other back way. Don’t worry about it, we have what we came for, let’s go."

Wufu nodded, reset the passage, and they left the gold and silver treasures untouched, returning the books to their places.

"You misplaced this book," Wufu corrected the placement of a book Ah Jiu had set incorrectly.

Ah Jiu paused, a hint of a smile crossing his eyes, truly he had found his lucky star.

The two exited the hidden chamber, reset the rockery, and went back to the Moon Viewing Pavilion to create a façade of searching.

Wufu whistled, and Chi Yi dashed in. A patrol of guards had just passed by, scaring him into a cold sweat.
