Lu Heng was startled into silence, his mind a battlefield of internal conflict and unspoken thoughts.
"Master, I only learned to speak recently, not long after you left."
Just as Lu Heng was about to ask something else, he was again surprised to realize that he hadn't spoken aloud.
How did this cat demon know what he was thinking?
Mind-reading?
"Yes, I can sense your thoughts. You don't need to open your mouth for me to know."
"Is that so? Hehehe..."
"I'm hungry. The dried fish you gave me this morning is all gone. Give me some more."
"Alright." Nodding stiffly, Lu Heng opened the cage door.
The Director instinctively took a few steps back, clearing the doorway, lest he be stepped on.
Lu Heng scooped up the little cat, wanting to see if this cat was still his adorable Director.
The Director glanced at Lu Heng with a hint of disdain, then noticed a small cut on Lu Heng's finger and casually licked it a few times.
However, after just a few licks, under Lu Heng's astonished gaze, the Director froze, its limbs stiff.
Lu Heng was about to put the Director down. He hadn't even noticed the wound himself; it was probably from accidentally cutting himself when the dagger fell earlier.
But now that the wound had been licked by a cat, should he go to the hospital in his space later to get a rabies shot?
Just as he was about to put the Director down, but hadn't yet.
The Director in Lu Heng's hands vanished into thin air.
Lu Heng stood up again, startled, looked around him, and then looked at the iron fence at the door.
The fence was intact, but where was the cat?
Could this fellow also have teleportation or invisibility skills?
Are cats becoming superior to humans?
He still didn't know what his own superpower was.
This cat had already demonstrated mind-reading, so was it now showcasing other skills?
As he searched the room frantically, the Director's voice echoed in his mind again.
"Wow, it's so big in here. Oh, why does the smell here match the master's scent?"
Lu Heng: "Where are you?"
"I don't know."
Lu Heng...
"Describe your surroundings."
"Oh, there's a bed in the room, a small cabinet next to the bed, and a wardrobe in the room. The wardrobe door is closed, so I can't see what's inside..."
"Stop, there are many places like that."
Lu Heng seemed to remember something. With a thought, he entered his space.
He was now back in the apartment he was renting.
Because the Director had mentioned earlier that there was his scent in the room.
As far as he could tell, besides his apartment, he didn't think there would be his scent lingering anywhere else.
As expected, as soon as he entered the space, he saw the Director squatting in front of the wardrobe, looking at him.
Just as Lu Heng was about to squat down and pick up the Director, his peripheral vision caught sight of his own chest in the full-length mirror outside the wardrobe, where a tattoo had appeared.
He didn't remember having a tattoo; after all, he was a good young man before the apocalypse.
Facing the mirror, he kept rubbing the area that looked like a tattoo with his hand until it turned red, but it didn't change at all.
Looking closely in the mirror again, the tattoo seemed to be of a cat.
He looked down at the Director, who was looking up at him, and then back at the tattoo.
They were the same! His tattoo was the same as the Director's!
Ah! Can anyone tell him what's going on?
"Are you sick?"
Lu Heng looked down at the source of the voice, but the voice had still sounded in his mind.
Squatting down, Lu Heng picked up the Director and stared at its small mouth.
"Why are you looking at my face? Hurry up and get me some dried fish."
The Director didn't open its mouth. "Did you just talk to me?"
"No, I didn't talk to you. I was just thinking some things in my mind."
Didn't speak?
"How did you get here?" Lu Heng shook his head. No, he had to figure out what was going on.
"I don't know."
"You... forget it, come on, let's go out."
Then Lu Heng flashed and brought the Director to the villa.
Lu Heng refilled the Director's dried fish and well water, then closed the cage door and returned to his room.
Such a frightening Director, he'd better keep it confined when he slept.
"How am I frightening? I'm so cute."
Lu Heng...
Never mind, he'd go take a shower first. It had been a tiring day.
He glanced down at the tattoo on his chest; the little cat tattoo was still there.
While showering, he rubbed that spot hard again, but unfortunately, it still wouldn't come off.
Tired from the day, Lu Heng lay on the bed and quickly fell asleep.
The next morning, Lu Heng was woken up by the Director next door.
The Director was hungry.
Lu Heng got up and went to the adjacent room, changing the cat food for the Director.
The Director was very happy, reminding him as it ate.
"You didn't clean up the cat litter yesterday. Hurry up and clean it now. The smell in the room is affecting my meal."
Lu Heng, you don't look like you're being affected at all.
Getting up, he took the shovel and diligently cleaned all the cat litter.
As soon as he put the bag containing the cat feces into his space, he saw that the Director had finished its canned food and was heading towards the litter box.
A moment later, the smell of cat feces wafted from the room again.
...
Lu Heng: "You're not burying it?"
"It will dirty my paws."
You got me, I seem to have found myself a master.
Lu Heng once again shoveled the freshly produced cat feces into the garbage bag.
Lu Heng got up and walked out. Just as he was about to close the door, the Director spoke again.
The Director stood by the cage door, tilting its head adorably and saying, "Don't close the door. We're living together after all. Let me run around outside."
Lu Heng: "Fine, you can only run around in the villa. Don't blame me for not warning you, there are zombies outside. Be careful not to get caught and eaten."
Director: "What are zombies?"
"Later, after breakfast, I'll find a picture for you to see."
He remembered that he had downloaded zombie movies on his phone. He'd find something similar to show the Director later.
After breakfast, Lu Heng no longer confined the Director, and then he went out again.
Having been thoroughly educated, the Director obediently chose to play in the room. Fortunately, there were many rooms.
Lu Heng drove to the granary outside the city today. He felt that the first thing to do was to acquire a large amount of supplies. As for supermarkets that were not large-scale, he still wanted to leave some for others.
The granary was also surrounded by a fence. It was probably for anti-theft purposes. Now, through the fence, Lu Heng could clearly see many zombies circling the granary within the fence.
If he were to blow up the fence outside the granary now, it was estimated that the zombies would swarm towards him.
There wasn't a large open space outside the granary for him to show off his driving skills, so he could only abandon the car and cross the fence himself to kill a wave of zombies inside first.
To avoid exposing his space ability outside, he chose not to store large items like cars outside.
Carrying his long saber and with the electric baton he obtained yesterday at his waist, Lu Heng stood outside the fence, contemplating.
His speed and strength had increased, but he felt he still couldn't cross such a high fence.
