Chapter 16 Saving People

The sound of something dragging on the ground grew closer, and Lu Heng heard the noise to his right seeming to be nearer.

He subtly shifted a few steps towards the exit on the right, finding the best angle to wait.

Two minutes later, a swaying figure emerged from the right.

The person was wearing a police uniform, appearing to be one of the officers on duty last night.

At this moment, a large portion of the police uniform on the person's arm was missing, as if torn off by something.

The flesh on the arm had also been ripped away, with some torn pieces of meat still hanging from the forearm, dangling as the zombie walked.

The zombie's eyes were also gray and white. When exposed to sunlight, it seemed to smell a pleasant scent and excitedly charged towards Lu Heng.

Lu Heng did not hesitate. Upon seeing the zombie's face, the large saber in his hand swung towards the person's head.

With a swift strike, the zombie was felled. Red and white matter splattered everywhere with the force of the saber's swing.

Lu Heng turned his body to avoid the splashing fluids.

However, fluids that sprayed in a radial pattern were not something that could be avoided at will.

Looking at the scattered droplets that had landed on him, Lu Heng merely frowned. He wasn't afraid of these things, but it was better to stay clean if possible.

After all, in his previous life, he was the one pushed to the front of the team, the one who had the most direct contact with zombies.

Glancing at the head split in two, Lu Heng saw no crystals.

As expected, not every zombie had crystals.

After felling two more zombies from the right, a few zombies also approached from the left.

It seemed there were quite a few people on duty yesterday.

Lu Heng finished off all the zombies and then took out three crystals, consuming them one by one.

He waited for a few more minutes in the first-floor lobby, but no more zombies appeared.

He had this police station in his spatial dimension, as the layout of his dimension was the same as this city.

When he decided to come here, he had already toured the police station in his dimension and familiarized himself with the routes.

He knew that the armory was located in the basement, so he headed towards the basement with his saber.

Turning a corner, Lu Heng saw a staircase leading downwards.

From his vantage point, the interior was pitch black.

However, as he moved, his footsteps caused the lights on the ceiling to illuminate.

Walking about two meters deeper, he encountered another turn. Lu Heng cautiously took a moderately sized mirror from his dimension.

He then wrapped the mirror with tape onto a long stick.

Extending the stick with the mirror, Lu Heng clearly saw the scene around the corner in the mirror.

Fortunately, there were no zombies here.

There were no rooms along the sides of the passage; the entire passage was just a path extending forward.

After making two more turns, Lu Heng saw a vault-like door, similar to those in movies, not far ahead.

Looking at the sturdy steel door, he estimated that this was where the firearms were stored.

As expected, the door had an electronic lock. Lu Heng knew he had to use the lock-breaking shotgun this time.

Putting away his long saber again, he picked up the shotgun and fired at the keypad lock.

To his satisfaction, the lock was broken again.

Standing at the entrance, he listened. Lu Heng heard no sounds.

Since his advancement, all his abilities had significantly improved, including his eyesight and hearing.

In a quiet environment, he could hear the sound of a falling needle from a considerable distance.

Putting away the gun, he switched to holding the long saber.

Lu Heng pulled the heavy steel door outwards, and it opened easily.

As the door opened, the lights inside naturally turned on.

It was likely some system that connected the door and the lights.

Lu Heng stepped inside. Rows of shelves were lined with various firearms. Lu Heng didn't examine them closely, collecting them one by one into his dimension.

Within minutes, the place was emptied by Lu Heng, leaving nothing but the surrounding walls.

Exiting the basement, Lu Heng moved upstairs.

If there were any survivors here, he would definitely save them. After all, these people had once protected his city; they were the most beloved people in the city.

Lu Heng checked room by room. As he entered and exited rooms, he only took things he liked.

After all, if he encountered a living person later and brought them out, they would surely become suspicious of him upon seeing an empty building.

There was no need to expose himself; it was better to remain low-key.

After all, in the apocalypse, learning how to lie low was the key to survival.

As he moved from room to room, Lu Heng indeed heard a commotion on the third floor, like the sound of an object falling to the ground.

But that was the only sound, and then the building fell silent again.

This noise was definitely not made by zombies, as zombies would have reacted if they heard a sound.

Following the sound, he stood outside a closed room.

Seeing a few lone zombies, Lu Heng was confident he could eliminate them instantly, so he wasn't afraid of zombies inside.

However, if it were a police officer inside, and that person happened to be carrying a gun, it would be awkward if he were accidentally injured by barging in.

Standing outside the door, Lu Heng called out, "Is anyone there? I'm here on business, and I happened to encounter zombies on the way, so I rushed in."

After a few seconds, a male voice responded from inside.

"Is it safe outside?"

"You open the door first, it's safe here for now." Lu Heng looked at the door, wanting to kick it open.

Then the door was opened, but only a small crack.

A man's face peeked through the gap.

The man looked at Lu Heng a few times, confirmed Lu Heng looked normal, then opened the door, pulled Lu Heng in, and quickly closed the door.

The sound of the lock clicking followed.

Lu Heng looked around the room with amusement. The police officer's vigilance was truly strong and his reaction was quick. It was probably because of this that he hadn't ended up like the people downstairs.

Lu Heng turned around and said to the man at the door, "I'm here on business. There were many zombies outside just now, and I was terrified, so I ran into this building."

The man listened at the door for a moment, then walked to an office desk and sat on a nearby chair.

The man also sized Lu Heng up a few times, looking at the blood-stained long saber in his hand, his eye twitched. Are you sure you're not here to surrender?

Lu Heng followed the man's gaze to his hand. Oh, no wonder the man had that look. If he had entered the police station like this before, he would probably have been forced to squat against the wall with his hands raised high.
