Chapter 10 Chinese Rural Cat

After waiting in the car for about half an hour, Lu Heng waved his hand, and dozens of steamed buns and two cases of mineral water appeared behind the car. Only then did he drive back to the villa.

Upon returning, Lu Heng carefully inspected the work done by those people. He tugged at it, and indeed, it was done quite well.

Seeing that the work on site was nearing completion, Lu Heng didn't immediately take out the buns. After all, the buns were fresh out of the oven when they were taken out earlier. If he drove out to buy them, the buns in the car should be cold by the time he returned.

After they finished their work, Lu Heng finally took the buns out of the car. "Come, come, everyone take a break. Eat some buns and drink some water. I'll check things over again."

The crowd instantly felt hungry upon seeing the buns. It was no wonder, as they had been rushed out by the boss before dawn. Some of them hadn't eaten breakfast and had been working all morning on empty stomachs.

After seeing off the renovation workers, Lu Heng looked at the unrecognizable villa. If the owner knew their house had been ruined like this, they would likely have spat out seven feet of blood on the spot, out of sheer anger.

Well, in the early days of the apocalypse, this place would be enough for him to hide and survive for a long time. Of course, once the zombies evolved later, this place wouldn't be able to defend against them.

But he would take one step at a time.

With a day and a half left until the apocalypse, Lu Heng glanced at the fuel in his car. There was about half a tank left. However, he estimated he would be driving around more in the next few days, so it was best to fill up the tank.

With a wave of his hand, the car disappeared from its spot, and Lu Heng then flashed into his space.

This time, the car, controlled by his thoughts, went directly to the gas station. He watched it stop beside the fuel pump, perfectly parked without even crossing the painted lines on the ground.

Lu Heng's mouth twitched. This was much better parking than when he drove it himself.

He picked up the fuel gun and filled the car with the best gasoline. Normally, he wouldn't use such good gasoline for this old car.

After filling the tank, Lu Heng and the car returned to the real world.

Driving away from the villa, Lu Heng planned to buy some seeds from the surrounding areas today, mainly various vegetable and grain seeds. Agricultural machinery like shellers was too expensive, so he decided not to buy them for now and would wait for a "zero-dollar purchase" opportunity.

He drove around the suburbs and collected some grain and vegetable seeds from several large local growers. Although the quantity of these seeds wasn't much, it was better than nothing.

This time, the money Lu Heng paid was also taken from his space.

Yes, you read that right. It was taken from his space, and it was all cash.

When Lu Heng paid the renovation workers today, he subconsciously reached into the pocket of his pajama pants and pulled out a small wad of money.

It was then that he realized that as long as something existed in the city, it would also exist in his space.

Damn it, why did I use my own card to spend money before?

The money in his space wasn't marked as belonging to anyone. As long as he wanted it, he could take out as much cash as he wished from there.

Alas, overnight wealth, can you feel it?

However, to avoid attracting too much attention in the city, Lu Heng dared not spend large amounts of cash around town.

Lu Heng was currently driving his old, loan-bought car around the city. He decided that during the remaining time before the apocalypse, he would experience the liveliness of the human world more.

In the afternoon, he went to an amusement park and played all the thrilling rides. He paid people to queue for him for all the attractions, so he could ride the popular ones as soon as he arrived.

In the evening, Lu Heng drove to a bar and generously treated everyone there that night to a bottle of not-too-expensive red wine.

Lu Heng also drank quite a bit in the bar. Looking at the pile of various empty wine bottles on the coffee table in the booth, he suspected the bar had sold him fake wine.

Why did he not feel even a hint of drunkenness?

It wasn't until he saw the young woman who was promoting the drinks, passed out on him and completely drunk, that he believed the wine wasn't fake.

After playing until midnight, he went to the hotel he had visited yesterday and booked the most luxurious room for the night.

This time, he didn't encounter the hotel manager. He guessed that person was on the day shift. Otherwise, the manager would surely suspect Lu Heng had a grudge against the hotel, given how he seemed to be specifically targeting their establishment, visiting multiple times in two days.

The next morning, Lu Heng asked his old acquaintance, Brother Qiang, from the hotel to make him breakfast.

After receiving a favor from Lu Heng, Brother Qiang made him several of his signature dishes without any complaints. He even called his wife, who was skilled in making pastries, to help prepare a lavish breakfast for Lu Heng.

He would play for another half a day today, and then he would return to the villa to await the apocalypse.

Today was the last day before the apocalypse. The sun did not rise as usual the next morning, and people gradually fell into a nightmare of endless panic.

Around noon, Lu Heng was aimlessly wandering through the snack street, eating as he went, trying everything on the street.

Since it wasn't the weekend, there weren't many people out and about. Just as he was about to head to the parking lot to drive home, he saw a crowd gathered at the street corner.

Lu Heng wasn't usually one to join in on the excitement, but having lived through the apocalypse for so long, he now craved this human liveliness.

Lu Heng walked towards the crowd, holding his grilled fish and eating it. As he squeezed his way to the front, he saw clearly that it was a pet vendor.

Looking at the cardboard boxes displayed in front of the vendor, Lu Heng squatted down to look at the kittens inside.

There was an orange tabby cat in a box, staring at Lu Heng with its big eyes, unmoving.

Lu Heng found it amusing and casually asked, "How much for one of these cats?"

Seeing someone asking the price, the vendor immediately said, "These cats have all been vaccinated. They are all three-month-old kittens. The price isn't expensive, two hundred each. Which one do you like? I'll show it to you?"

Lu Heng waved the half-eaten grilled fish in his hand, and the little orange cat's head followed the grilled fish.

Lu Heng chuckled lightly at the cat's adorable appearance. Cats weren't very noisy animals; they wouldn't meow on their own when they heard something. It might be nice to buy one to keep him company in the apocalypse.

Taking out two one-hundred-yuan bills from his pocket, Lu Heng generously bought the little orange cat.

The vendor wrapped the kitten in a piece of scrap cloth and handed it to Lu Heng. Lu Heng, with a slight look of disdain, pulled off the cloth and then, right in front of the kitten's big, watery eyes, finished the grilled fish in his hand.

"Meow..."

"Heh, this grilled fish has salt in it, you can't eat it. I'll give you dried fish later."

"Meow, meow."

"I'll take you to the pet hospital to get a check-up first, just in case there are any fleas or anything."

The vendor glanced at the two banknotes in his hand. He hadn't even put the money away properly, and this person was already causing trouble.

"Brother, my cats are from my own litter, they don't have fleas."

Lu Heng picked up the kitten by the scruff of its neck and replied to the vendor, "I know, I was just saying it casually. Don't worry about the details."

The vendor...

Lu Heng carried the kitten back into the car and, with a wave of his hand, took out a small cage from his space, put the cat in it, and thoughtfully took out another box of dried fish for pets.

Under the kitten's fixed gaze, Lu Heng took a dried fish from the box and put it into the cage.

"Here's one for you first. I don't know if you're old enough to eat this."

"Meow."

"Looks like you can understand me? So smart."

Seeing that the kitten no longer paid attention to him and was lowering its head to eat the dried fish, Lu Heng drove to the nearest pet hospital. He registered the kitten, got it checked, and had blood tests done. Finally, the veterinarian told Lu Heng, "This kitten is very healthy. Based on the blood test results, it seems to have been vaccinated."

Lu Heng also asked the veterinarian for detailed advice on raising cats. He then gave the kitten a bath and, carrying the cage with the cat, returned to the villa.
