Chapter 31 Leaving the City

In the space apartment, Lu Heng sat on the bed.

Before him lay hundreds of first-order crystals. Lu Heng looked at the pile of crystals and realized how formidable he had become today.

At the beginning of the day, he had counted the crystals he collected. But as the number of zombies he killed increased, he gave up counting and simply put all the crystals into that bucket.

So many first-order crystals were enough for him to advance another level.

Fortunately, consuming these crystals did not cause satiety. After swallowing them, they were quickly absorbed by his body and converted into abilities, stored within the crystal in his mind.

Opening his eyes again, Lu Heng couldn't help but sigh.

In his previous life, he had survived by blending into various bases. The crystals he collected did not belong to him personally; he had to hand them over to the base, which then distributed them based on individual strength.

As a power-type ability user, he was always at the forefront of battles, yet he received far fewer crystals than natural-type ability users.

Recalling his thoughts, Lu Heng exited the space. He was eager to test his wind ability.

When he was at the second tier, it felt like harvesting leeks. Now, his ability could clear out a whole area with a single sweep.

Not only were the surrounding zombies killed, but even the streetlights were not spared. The wind blades cut through them all.

Moreover, he no longer needed to gather energy into the blade before swinging it. With a mere wave of his hand, objects in front of him would be sliced in half.

Of course, he couldn't directly destroy buildings like houses yet, only cutting a two-meter-deep gash into them.

What surprised Lu Heng the most was that his wind blades could now carry fire abilities.

The power of using both abilities together was unimaginable. Flames mixed with wind blades wherever they went, causing any flammable material they struck to ignite instantly.

Shocked by his own power, Lu Heng was too excited to sleep. He didn't return to the space but chose to continue killing zombies outside.

Although it was already dark, and humans were restricted from traveling at night, making it difficult to kill zombies in the wilderness without night-vision goggles.

However, with the ability enhancement from the director, Lu Heng could see things at night as clearly as in the daytime, his combat power unaffected.

Fueled by adrenaline, Lu Heng only stopped killing zombies at dawn before returning to the space to rest.

He had been awake for too long, having killed zombies continuously for nearly twenty-four hours.

Back in the space, he didn't bother counting the crystals again, too exhausted to do anything but collapse onto the bed and fall into a deep sleep.

...

The next day, survivors who came out to search for supplies found that the number of zombies in the city had significantly decreased compared to yesterday. There were also large patches of scorched zombie corpses on the roads.

Currently, the strongest ability users in the city were only at the first-tier stage, as the number of crystals required for further advancement increased exponentially.

Their individual combat capabilities were too weak, and they had to form teams to survive.

Moreover, most of the time, these people focused on finding and seizing supplies, so their upgrade speed was not fast.

Inside a supermarket in the city.

Several groups of survivors were engaged in fierce combat over looted supplies.

In fact, this supermarket had already been scoured by many people in the past few days. All the supplies in the sales area, except for some useless items, had been cleared out.

Behind this supermarket was an independent storage warehouse. They had been unable to open the original door, so many people had their eyes on the supplies inside.

In the past few days, a fire-type first-tier ability user had appeared among the survivors. That person used their fire ability to melt the lock on the warehouse door, allowing these survivors to enter the warehouse.

A small team could not possibly claim so many supplies alone. After all, in a society without legal constraints, human combat was even more brutal.

Those people, in order to fight for more survival supplies, killed each other.

Lu Heng, when killing zombies outside, occasionally saw humans still fighting and quickly avoided them.

After all, his heaven-defying method of killing zombies was not something he could expose yet.

Finally, seeing that the number of zombies in the city had decreased and more people were active during the day, Lu Heng decided to only come out at night to kill zombies.

After all, there were almost no others who could see in the dark without limitations like him.

Lu Heng continued to kill zombies only at night. After a few days, he had collected quite a few more crystals.

As his ability tier increased, although first-order crystals could still be used later, the quantity required for advancement doubled.

Among these crystals, he discovered some colored ones: pale blue, pale green, and pale gray.

The pale gray crystals were wind-attribute, the pale blue were water-attribute, and the pale green were wood-attribute.

So, in these past few days, ability-user zombies had appeared here?

Since he had two of these attributes, Lu Heng specifically took out the water-attribute and wind-attribute crystals.

These attribute crystals were twice as potent as ordinary crystals. Therefore, absorbing ability crystals of the same attribute would yield better results.

Lu Heng returned to the space. He first absorbed all the ordinary crystals he had collected, and then he absorbed the wind-attribute and water-attribute crystals as well.

However, despite absorbing so many, he showed no signs of breaking through again.

It seemed he needed to collect more. However, he no longer planned to search for zombies in the city, as the number of survivors active there was gradually increasing.

Those survivors had already formed several significant factions. If he continued to act alone, he would easily attract the attention of others.

The evolution speed of zombies was far slower than his advancement speed. Staying here and wasting time was not worthwhile.

He had already leveled up again, and he wanted to try to contract another ability-using animal.

There were almost no animals in the city. Even stray dogs had been eaten by the city's zombies, so he had to venture into the suburbs.

He didn't want to go to the zoo now. After all, the water and electricity had been out for many days. Without human care, their chances of survival in enclosed spaces were slim.

Exiting the space, Lu Heng took out an off-road motorcycle. This vehicle was convenient for navigating the city, and his current third-tier ability made dealing with zombies quite easy.

Moreover, the entrance to the city roads was blocked by many vehicles, making it inconvenient for him to pass with his car.

He successfully left the city, retrieved his motorcycle, and then found a sturdy RV from his space.

This way, if he encountered a small number of zombies, he could simply run them over. It would also be convenient for him to rest in the wilderness at night.
