Chapter 1547 Gu Yulong's Relentless Pursuit
“Minister Hua, I didn’t expect you to be eating here too. We’re truly fated!”
Suddenly, a man in a suit walked over. Upon seeing Hua Mei, his face lit up with a smile, almost drooling, with a lecherous expression.
This man wore a black suit with a garish pink t-shirt underneath. His fair complexion made him look no older than twenty, despite being in his thirties.
“Minister Liu, what are you doing here?”
Hua Mei frowned upon seeing the man in the suit.
“I’m here to eat as well,” the man replied.
“Oh…” Hua Mei nodded, intending to continue her meal. However, the man seemed intent on chatting endlessly.
The way the man looked at Hua Mei clearly indicated his interest in her.
“And who is this?”
Suddenly, the man in the suit noticed Chen Xuan beside her, his brow furrowed, and hostility evident in his eyes.
His gaze had been entirely fixed on Hua Mei, and he hadn't noticed Chen Xuan until now.
Chen Xuan was another man, and the fact that he was dining alone with Hua Mei made the man incredibly jealous.
“This is my friend, Mr. Chen Xuan.”
“And you are?” Chen Xuan glanced at the man in the suit.
As Hua Mei was about to introduce him, the man in the suit extended his hand, grasped Chen Xuan’s, and said proudly, puffing out his chest, “I am Liu Daqiang, the newly appointed head of the first public relations department at Xuanyun Group! May I ask what industry Mr. Chen is in?”
His words carried an implicit arrogance.
The previous head of the first public relations department had been fired, giving Liu Daqiang an opportunity to step in.
He felt incredibly lucky. Having joined the company not long ago, he had already received a promotion and a raise. Moreover, he was working alongside the beautiful head of the second public relations department, Hua Mei. As the head of the first department and unmarried, and Hua Mei being the head of the second and unmarried, they were a match made in heaven.
Through their interactions at work, he had already begun to consider Hua Mei his exclusive possession.
Chen Xuan replied calmly, “Just freeloading, nothing significant.”
The more Chen Xuan understated himself, the more Liu Daqiang wanted to know. He felt that Chen Xuan was inferior to him, and he could belittle Chen Xuan in front of Hua Mei to elevate himself.
“Mr. Chen, what exactly do you do for a living? If you need any help, don’t hesitate to ask! After all, I am the head of the public relations department at Xuanyun Group, and I do have some influence.”
Xuanyun Group was very famous at the moment, and most people would be envious upon hearing its name. Seeing Chen Xuan’s indifferent reaction, Liu Daqiang assumed he wasn’t aware of Xuanyun Group and explained:
“Do you know Xuanyun Group? The now renowned Xuanyun Group? Our Xuanyun Group’s strength is already comparable to the Nine Gates of Kyoto!”
“Since you are Hua Mei’s friend, you are my friend too. If you need any help, just ask.”
“I am somewhat familiar with Xuanyun Group. As for help, it’s not necessary,” Chen Xuan said with a smile.
“Mr. Chen, what is it you do for a living?”
“I’m a freelancer, I suppose.” Chen Xuan chuckled and took a small sip of his juice.
Freelancer?
In other words, unemployed but with a fancy title?
Liu Daqiang’s face filled with disdain. He turned to Hua Mei and said, “Miss Hua Mei, we are all people of high society, so we should associate with people of high society.”
“What do you mean by that? Mr. Chen is my friend. If you speak like that, please leave!”
Hua Mei’s pretty face turned cold, and she spoke sternly.
Liu Daqiang was surprised by Hua Mei’s direct and firm response, as she had never been so assertive before.
Seeing this, he grew even more resentful of Chen Xuan, believing that Hua Mei’s attitude towards him was entirely due to Chen Xuan.
“I apologize, Miss Hua. I was rude. I apologize here and hope you can forgive me.”
Seeing Liu Daqiang’s sincere apology, and considering they were colleagues, Hua Mei couldn’t say much more.
“Mr. Chen, I apologize. However, I don’t think you are worthy of Miss Hua Mei,” Liu Daqiang continued.
Chen Xuan replied calmly, “Minister Liu, you keep mentioning high society. What exactly is high society to you?”
Liu Daqiang smiled and said, “Like me, I frequent high-end office buildings, and my friends are all white-collar and golden-collar workers from major corporations, as well as some executives. This so-called circle is high society.”
“Mr. Chen, do you happen to know anyone from high society?”
“Oh, I see. Yes, I do know some people. However, most of the people I know are people you are not qualified to know,” Chen Xuan replied.
“I’m not qualified to know them? Heh, you’re just boasting without consequence.” Liu Daqiang scoffed.
Chen Xuan’s words were not an exaggeration, but rather understated. The people he knew were from the Nine Gates of Kyoto, or at the very least, prestigious families like the Zhang family, who were just below the Nine Gates. Compared to Liu Daqiang, they were on a completely different level.
Unfortunately, Liu Daqiang didn’t believe him and thought he was bragging.
“I never boast,” Chen Xuan stated again.
Liu Daqiang shook his head, and with a familiar air, pulled up a chair, preparing to sit down.
Hua Mei was displeased. This was a rare opportunity she had managed to secure to spend time alone with Chen Xuan, and Liu Daqiang was essentially a third wheel!
She was about to express her discomfort, but Liu Daqiang had already sat down beside them, and she couldn’t say anything further.
“Mr. Chen, isn’t it? Our Xuanyun Group’s public relations department is in need of staff. You have a good demeanor, and you fit my requirements. Would you like to come work in the public relations department of our Xuanyun Group?”
Liu Daqiang appeared to be offering a kind invitation, but he was actually trying to show off. “If you follow me, I guarantee you’ll have a good life.”
“No, thank you.”
Chen Xuan shook his head.
Xuanyun Group belonged to him; why would he need to work in the public relations department?
“Since you don’t need it, then forget it. What a wasted kindness.” Liu Daqiang snorted coldly.
At that moment, Gu Yulong suddenly rushed over with an imposing aura.
Her face was etched with frost.
She glanced at Liu Daqiang and said, “Get out of my way!”
Liu Daqiang was sitting near the aisle. She wanted him to move so she could take his seat.
“You dare tell me to get out? Who do you think you are?”
Liu Daqiang slammed the table and retorted, “Let me tell you, if you weren’t a young lady, I would have slapped you…”
“Slap—”
With a swift motion, a resounding slap landed on Liu Daqiang’s face.
A palm print instantly appeared on his cheek.
“You dare hit me? Do you know who I am?” Liu Daqiang was momentarily stunned, then erupted in fury.
“I don’t care who you are, get lost!”
Gu Yulong exuded an aura of unmatched dominance.
This powerful presence caused Liu Daqiang’s expression to change slightly, clearly intimidated by her aura.
However, Liu Daqiang remembered Hua Mei was present. If he didn’t do anything, wouldn’t that prove he was a wimp?
“Let me tell you, I am Liu Qiang, the head of the public relations department at Xuanyun Group!”
Here, Liu Daqiang played a subtle trick. While he was indeed the head of public relations, he was specifically the head of the first department. Though it was only a slight difference, it elevated his status in his own mind.
“Slap!”
Another slap landed.
Gu Yulong coldly said, “A mere head of the security department dares to be arrogant in front of me? Let me tell you, even your boss would show me respect!”
