Chapter 63 Accidental Self-Deprecation

It was the stairwell again.

"Old Li, I didn't make any mistakes today, did I? Have you been calling me for one-on-one chats a bit too frequently lately?"

Qin Tian looked at Li Yanwang with a resentful gaze, his tone firm as he stated, "I strongly suspect you're jealous of my good looks and are deliberately seeking revenge."

Dark lines dripped down Li Yanwang's forehead. He scowled and glared at Qin Tian, "Maintain a proper attitude, and stop messing around with me!"

"Oh!"

Qin Tian pouted helplessly and asked, "You called me out, what's up?"

Thinking about what Xia Nuannuan had said on the track and field earlier, he actually had a guess but still needed to confirm.

"I'm not going to waste time with pleasantries. I'm asking you, what's going on between you and Xia Nuannuan?"

Li Yanwang got straight to the point.

He was no longer accustomed to casual chats with Qin Tian. He always felt a lack of the usual teacher-student authority he had with other students, which felt quite awkward.

"What's going on?"

Qin Tian secretly thought, "Just as I expected." On the surface, however, he feigned ignorance without hesitation.

"It's best if there's nothing going on. I'm telling you, with the college entrance examination only two months away, don't cause any trouble for me!"

Li Yanwang warned him with a serious expression.

"Old Li, what are you talking about? Am I that kind of person? I'm the most law-abiding, good student."

Qin Tian said earnestly.

"Heh!"

Li Yanwang rolled his eyes and said exasperatedly, "Then, as a good student, you address me, your homeroom teacher, as 'Old Li' repeatedly? Didn't I talk to you about this last time?"

Qin Tian grinned, "Doesn't that make us seem closer and foster a more harmonious teacher-student relationship?"

"Look at yourself, stop being so flippant!"

"Oh!"

Qin Tian instantly suppressed his smile and looked at Li Yanwang with a "I'm a good boy" expression.

Li Yanwang's mouth twitched violently several times. He couldn't be bothered to say more and brought the conversation back to the main topic:

"Xia Nuannuan's father called me just now. Basically, he wants me to give you a warning, and he also suggested changing your seats."

"Hey, hey, hey, Old Li, you didn't agree, did you?"

Qin Tian immediately became anxious.

"Hmm?"

"I was wrong, Teacher Li."

"I didn't agree, but since her father made a long phone call to me, I can't just ignore it. That's why I called you out for a chat."

Old Li said with a serious tone.

"Teacher Li, Xia Nuannuan and I are really just normal classmates and good friends. You and her dad are thinking too much."

Qin Tian guaranteed with a serious expression.

Old Li looked directly into his eyes, seemingly trying to discern something from his gaze and subtle facial expressions.

But Qin Tian's eyes were clear, and he was at ease.

After all, he wasn't lying.

His relationship with Xia Nuannuan was currently more than friends, but not yet lovers.

At least, that's how it was now!

"That's good then."

Seeing that Qin Tian didn't seem to be lying, Li Xueping nodded with satisfaction. "I don't care what happens after your college entrance examination, and I'll even bless you, but for these two months, you need to mind your conduct."

"What's all this about? I haven't done anything!"

Qin Tian had a face that was half-amused, half-exasperated.

"Haven't done anything? Then why are you and Xia Nuannuan inseparable every day? She brings you lunch, and you go for runs together at the track and field stadium in the evening. Do you think I know nothing?"

"Cough, cough... Old Li, this doesn't violate school discipline, does it?"

"That's right, it doesn't. But the atmosphere in the classroom has been changed by you two. Don't you have any idea?"

"This is slander! Nothing of the sort has happened. What atmosphere? I don't feel anything!"

Qin Tian refused to admit it, even if he were to die.

"Alright, alright. In any case, I've said what I needed to say. Go back to the classroom!"

Li Xueping waved his hand with a look of disdain.

If he continued talking with this thick-skinned brat, he was afraid he would lose his temper and use vulgar language, damaging his positive image as a teacher.

"Oh!"

Qin Tian responded, then his expression changed as if he were fawning, and he tentatively asked, "What about the seat change?"

"Disappear in three seconds, or I'll arrange seat changes at the next class meeting."

"Got it, I'm leaving!"

Without another word, Qin Tian turned and ran.

As Qin Tian turned back and smiled heartily at him before entering the classroom, Li Xueping's mouth twitched again, and he almost couldn't maintain his composure.

"Did this kid's personality used to be hidden, like his grades? Why is he becoming more and more..."

After pondering for a long time, he couldn't find a suitable adjective. Old Li shook his head with a wry smile and walked downstairs with his hands behind his back.

.................................................

"Qin Tian, what did Teacher Li say?"

Xia Nuannuan asked, leaning forward and covering her mouth as Qin Tian sat down, her voice full of eager curiosity.

Qin Tian smiled and didn't hide anything, replying, "Your dad actually called."

"Ah?"

Xia Nuannuan exclaimed subconsciously.

In the quiet classroom, the students immediately cast questioning glances.

"Sorry, sorry!"

Xia Nuannuan apologized with a bashful smile.

It was difficult for anyone in the class, boys or girls, to get angry at Xia Nuannuan, who was becoming more beautiful, adorable, and good-natured every day.

Everyone turned back to focus on their studies quietly. A few who were more curious perked up their ears, wanting to hear what the two were discussing.

But without supernatural hearing, it was obviously impossible.

"What did my dad say to Teacher Li?"

Xia Nuannuan asked again, her tone a little anxious.

"It's nothing much, just that he wanted Old Li to give me a talking-to, and he also wanted Old Li to change our seats. Old Li didn't agree."

Qin Tian said with a smile.

"This Old Xia..."

Xia Nuannuan ground her teeth, her face filled with annoyance.

Before returning to school for evening study, she had threatened Old Xia in what she considered a stern tone, telling him not to do anything rash.

But now, it seemed it hadn't been very effective.

"Why are you angry? Don't be angry. Your dad's actions are normal and understandable."

Qin Tian comforted her with a light smile.

Hearing this, Xia Nuannuan looked at him with surprise.

"When the prize cabbage you've raised for over ten years is eyed by a... cough cough, by someone, who wouldn't be anxious? If it were me, I might have been even more dramatic."

Qin Tian almost made a self-deprecating joke but managed to correct himself in time.

However, Xia Nuannuan had already understood the implied meaning and covered her mouth with a blushing smile.

"Cough, cough... I was just using a figurative analogy."

Qin Tian scratched his head awkwardly, trying to force an explanation.

"I know, pfft..."

Xia Nuannuan nodded, almost bursting into laughter.

"Fine, you laugh then!"

Qin Tian sighed helplessly. It would have been better not to explain!

Xia Nuannuan buried her face in her desk, biting her lips tightly, emitting uncontrollable giggles, her shoulders shaking continuously.

Qin Tian rested his chin on his hand, waiting for her laughter to subside with a melancholic expression, thinking to himself:

Girls who laugh a lot are always lucky!

He hoped Xia Nuannuan's luck would rub off on him, allowing him to smoothly pass his future father-in-law's subsequent tests.
