The old man squinted slightly when he saw Luo Fei shake his head.

Luo Fei simply said, "Barring any unexpected events, I am one hundred percent confident in capturing Jiang Sanqiang."

Luo Fei could have modestly agreed with the old man, perhaps even attributing it to luck with someone else. But somehow, facing the old man, Luo Fei didn’t want to appear humble. Perhaps the old man’s skepticism made him uncomfortable, or maybe the old man’s status led Luo Fei to avoid falsehoods, or maybe it was both.

Hearing Luo Fei’s words, the old man was taken aback but then laughed angrily. Looking at the serious and earnest Luo Fei, the old man only thought this young man was fearless and truly unaware of the difficulties he faced.

Claiming to be one hundred percent sure of capturing Jiang Sanqiang, the old man knew very well that Jiang Sanqiang had a gun. Even if he were younger, under those circumstances, he wouldn’t guarantee capturing Jiang Sanqiang with absolute certainty.

Yang Su was surprised. In his impression, Luo Fei had always been quite humble and polite, yet today he was acting somewhat out of character.

"It seems you do have some skills, and you’re quite confident in them!" Although the old man thought Luo Fei was a bit naïve, he also suspected that Luo Fei might indeed have some skills, which piqued his interest.

Luo Fei didn’t speak, which was an admission of the old man’s point.

"Alright, since you’re confident in your skills, let’s spar a bit. I haven’t sparred with anyone in a long time. Let’s head to the combat training ground," the old man said, striding towards the combat area.

Yang Su took the opportunity to come to Luo Fei’s side and asked, "Luo Fei, do you even know who that old man is? Wu Gong, the former captain of the detectives, he served in the military and was the all-army combat champion. Zhao Donglai specifically brought him to train you."

"Team leader, don’t worry." Luo Fei smiled at Yang Su and then followed along.

This left Yang Su with a puzzled expression, unsure if Luo Fei was being foolish or overly confident. He had already informed Luo Fei that the old man was the all-army combat champion, yet it seemed Luo Fei hadn’t listened.

Luo Fei followed the old man to the side of the combat training room, where several members of the detective team were also training.

As the old man walked to the combat area, members of the detective team greeted him, showing respect for the old man.

"Xiaoli, give me your boxing gloves," Wu Gong shouted to a strong detective whom Luo Fei recognized as Li Tian from team two.

Li Tian took off his gloves and handed them to Wu Gong, "Mr. Wu, are you planning to train today?"

Wu Gong took the gloves, glanced at Luo Fei, and said, "Just a little spar with this young man. Get him a pair of boxing gloves too."

Li Tian followed Wu Gong’s gaze to Luo Fei, surprised but saying nothing, and instructed another detective to get boxing gloves for Luo Fei.

Luo Fei stepped directly in front of Wu Gong, having absolute speed, absolute reaction time, and absolute strength. Frankly speaking, Luo Fei didn’t regard the old man highly.

Seeing that Luo Fei and Wu Gong were about to spar, all the detectives in the training room gathered around, ready to watch the spectacle.

All the members of the detective team knew Wu Gong and understood his capabilities. Even though Wu Gong was older now, his skills remained strong. None of them expected the newcomer Luo Fei to spar with Wu Gong.

Meanwhile, Yang Mei and Wu Xiaoyue had just left the shooting training hall and saw that everyone was gathered, looking at something.

"Yang Mei, what are they watching? Let’s go have a look too," Wu Xiaoyue said with a gossiping look, pulling Yang Mei towards the crowd.

As the two of them got closer, they finally saw clearly.

"Yang Mei, is Luo Fei really going to have a one-on-one with Mr. Wu?" Wu Xiaoyue looked at the center, where Luo Fei and Wu Gong, both wearing gloves, stood with an incredulous expression.

"It seems so!" Yang Mei replied, uncertain. She had heard many stories from Zhao Donglai about Mr. Wu’s prowess, being the all-army combat champion who once took down ten thugs alone. In short, Mr. Wu was quite formidable.

As for Luo Fei, he was just an ordinary police officer, having passed the civil service exam to enter the force. Given his background, Yang Mei doubted Luo Fei could take on Mr. Wu.

Once Wu Gong had put on his boxing gloves, he smiled at Luo Fei and said, "Ready? Once you’re ready, I’ll start attacking. Be careful, young man."

"Don’t worry!" Luo Fei replied confidently.

As soon as Luo Fei finished speaking, Wu Gong unhesitatingly launched an attack, delivering a whip kick aimed at Luo Fei’s head. Despite the old man’s age, his speed wasn’t slow at all, it was quick enough that an average person couldn’t react in time and would get hit easily.

Of course, this was in the eyes of others; to Luo Fei, the old man’s speed was not fast at all. Luo Fei easily blocked the old man’s whip kick with a light lift of his left hand.

The old man was a bit surprised to see Luo Fei agilely block his whip kick, realizing that the young man’s self-confidence wasn’t entirely unfounded.

Just when the old man was about to follow up with another whip kick, Luo Fei countered swiftly with a whip kick of his own.

With a "smack," Luo Fei’s kick intercepted the old man’s whip kick mid-air.

Thud, thud, thud—the old man staggered backward, his right foot feeling excruciating pain, though his face remained expressionless. He glanced at Luo Fei’s leg, thinking it was incredibly solid.

The old man didn’t know Luo Fei had held back. Seeing the old man’s age, Luo Fei was careful not to injure him, or the old man might have ended up on the floor.

"Again," the old man exclaimed. This time, he didn’t kick but aimed a punch at Luo Fei’s face, which, if it connected, would certainly swell Luo Fei’s face.

"So slow," Luo Fei thought. Having assessed the old man’s skills, Luo Fei decided he didn’t want to toy with him anymore. Using his right hand, he blocked the old man’s punch, and when the old man tried to retract his fist, Luo Fei quickly grabbed his arm.

The old man felt as if his hand was caught in a vice, causing some pain, and immediately sensed something was off. He reacted quickly, charging at Luo Fei while hooking his left foot around Luo Fei’s left leg, attempting to throw him to the ground.

But as the old man rammed into Luo Fei, it felt like hitting a wall. Luo Fei didn’t move an inch, let alone fall. The old man bounced back from his own momentum, stumbled a few steps, and would have fallen if not for Luo Fei holding his hand.

"Thank you for letting me win."

Luo Fei courteously cupped his hands, having gone easy on the old man. Without holding back, he could have made the old man cry; the old man’s speed, strength, and reflexes were all far inferior to his. Frankly, the old man wasn’t in his league.

Wu Gong looked at Luo Fei with complete astonishment. It was hard to believe that such a young, even somewhat boyish, man could possess such formidable skills.

From their brief exchange, Wu Gong knew that he was no match for the young man before him.

After a long pause, Wu Gong, with a broad smile, said, "Excellent, excellent! I didn’t expect you to have such capabilities. No wonder you’re confident in capturing Jiang Sanqiang. It seems I underestimated you."

"You’re too kind, sir," Luo Fei replied courteously, acknowledging the old man’s recognition of his skills.

"There’s no need for formalities. I’ve spent half my life in the military; I don’t know much about courtesy. You’re exceptional, one of the finest young men I’ve met. Keep up the good work and don’t let anyone down," the old man shook his head and said.
