Chapter 110: 50 Tragic Human Cases (Request for Subscription and Monthly Tickets)_2
"Captain Zhao." Luo Fei greeted Zhao Donglai, but Zhao Donglai was not in a good mood and only nodded at Luo Fei.
Luo Fei didn’t say anything further, just stood by Zhao Donglai waiting.
Soon, Yang Su also arrived, followed by Sun Jun, Yang Mei, and other members of the criminal investigation team who arrived one after another.
Ten minutes later, all members of the criminal investigation team were present. Zhao Donglai briefly informed everyone about the case, and then everyone set off to Peach Blossom Village.
Within half an hour, the criminal investigation team’s car entered Peach Blossom Village. Compared to the rest of the village shrouded in darkness, Jin Dayuan’s house in Group Two was brightly lit and bustling with people. The local police were already there, cordoning off the crime scene, and all the headlights of their vehicles were focused on Jin Dayuan’s home.
Outside the police line, many villagers of Peach Blossom Village gathered in twos and threes talking among themselves.
"It’s truly heinous, what kind of person is so cruel, to kill everyone in Dayuan’s family of four? What sin could Dayuan’s family have committed? Not even sparing the two kids."
"Poor Xiaoxiang and Xiaofang, the two kids were so young, to die like this. Who could have done such a beastly act?"
"I’ve never heard of Jin Dayuan having conflicts with anyone. Who on earth could have done it?"
"I don’t know, but I think it’s very likely those loan sharks did it. Jin Dayuan liked to gamble, didn’t he? I heard he borrowed a lot from the loan sharks."
The criminal investigation team’s car parked on the road below the victims’ home. Seeing the arrival of the criminal investigation team, the local police quickly made way for them at the entrance.
"Captain Zhao, you’re here. The scene inside is truly horrific," said Su Changping, the local police station chief, shaking his head with furrowed brows.
"Do we have any suspects?" Zhao Donglai asked Su Changping as he walked.
"Currently, I think the biggest suspects are Shi Tai and his group. When I asked some villagers, they said Jin Dayuan usually liked to gamble and owed Shi Tai’s group a lot of money," Su Changping replied.
"Who is Shi Tai?" Zhao Donglai turned to inquire.
"He’s from Shi Family Village near Peach Blossom Village. This guy used to work on construction sites, but after a dispute over wages with a boss, he broke the boss’s hand and went to prison. He hasn’t been out for long."
"I’ve heard that after getting out, he’s been gathering idle young men on the streets, gambling, and giving out high-interest loans, but we’ve never had enough evidence to arrest them," explained Su Changping.
As they spoke, Zhao Donglai and Luo Fei had already entered the room.
In the living room, a middle-aged man was lying in a strange position, kneeling on the floor with his head on the coffee table, his eyes wide open, staring towards the door. Blood was trickling from his head onto the coffee table. It was clear that the area around his right occipital was deeply sunken, with a ghastly wound on top of his head.
At the entrance to the bedroom on the right side of the living room, a woman in pajamas was lying on her back on the floor, her right eyeball completely destroyed, with a deep circular indention on her forehead.
Luo Fei entered the bedroom, where two beds were present. On the innermost bed, two children lay, but neither of the two young girls showed any signs of life, their tender faces disfigured beyond recognition.
"Ugh." Zhaocheng, who was behind Luo Fei and Zhao Donglai, almost couldn’t hold back the urge to vomit upon seeing the scene.
"Beast, to use such brutal force on such small girls, worse than a beast!" Zhao Donglai finally couldn’t contain his rage upon seeing the smashed faces of the two young girls.
"Such a beast must not be let go," Yang Su also spat vehemently.
Luo Fei examined the bedroom and returned to the living room, studying the positions of the middle-aged man’s and the woman’s bodies at the bedroom door, roughly reconstructing the entire crime process in his mind.
The murderer was likely sitting on the sofa opposite the deceased Jin Dayuan, with a coffee table between them. Then, for some unknown reason, the murderer drew out a weapon, and based on Luo Fei’s assessment, it must have been a hammer, striking hard at Jin Dayuan’s right occiput. With such a severe blow, Jin Dayuan likely died instantly, collapsing onto the coffee table. But the murderer wasn’t reassured and struck Jin Dayuan’s head again, causing the gaping wound on top.
After killing Jin Dayuan, the murderer got up and went straight into the bedroom, presumably to eliminate any witness. Meanwhile, Jin Dayuan’s wife, having heard the commotion, walked out and encountered the murderer.
Without hesitation, the murderer swung the hammer at Jin Dayuan’s wife’s face, likely shattering her right eye, causing her to fall from the heavy blow. The murderer then delivered another blow to Jin Dayuan’s wife’s forehead.
The two daughters of Jin Dayuan, who were sleeping, were too deeply asleep due to their young age to awaken from the disturbance.
The murderer, after dealing with Jin Dayuan’s wife, slowly approached the innermost bed. Seeing the sleeping children, the murderer raised the hammer and brutally smashed their faces, only leaving after confirming both were dead.
As Luo Fei was mentally recreating the crime scene, Zhao Donglai called over the deceased Jin Dayuan’s neighbor, Zhao Wanqing, who was the first to discover the crime scene and call the police, along with his wife.
"You were the one who called the police tonight?" Zhao Donglai asked.
"Yes, yes." Zhao Wanqing quickly nodded, noticeably nervous.
"No need to be nervous, just tell us clearly what you heard and saw tonight," Zhao Donglai reassured him.
"Okay, okay." Zhao Wanqing nodded rapidly, then continued, "Around two in the morning, my wife and I were fast asleep when suddenly we heard a scream that woke both of us up. I asked my wife if she heard the scream, and she said it seemed like Jin Dayuan’s wife’s voice next door."
"But after that one scream, there was no sound, and it was late at night, we were so tired, so my wife and I didn’t think much and were about to go back to sleep. But before we closed our eyes, we heard a child’s cries, immediately followed by silence again. I didn’t think much of it either and wanted to go back to sleep, but my wife said something must have happened at Jin Dayuan’s home with both the scream and the child’s cries. She urged me to go check it out."
"I didn’t want to go; it was cold outside at night, but my wife wouldn’t stop nagging. So, I lazily put on my clothes, yawning, opened the door, and walked out to the courtyard wall."
"I saw the light in Jin Dayuan’s living room was on, so late and the light was still on, I wondered if Jin Dayuan and his wife had another quarrel. So I walked over to check, thinking if they really were quarreling, I could help mediate."
"But when I got to the living room door, I saw Jin Dayuan on his knees, head on the coffee table, completely still. I was petrified, not knowing what had happened. About a minute later, summoning courage, I walked into the living room. I then saw Jin Dayuan’s wife lying at the bedroom door. Upon seeing the injuries and blood on her face, I realized Jin Dayuan’s family had been murdered, so I hurriedly called the police."
"Is that so?" Zhao Donglai asked, turning to look at Zhao Wanqing’s wife beside him.
"Yes, that’s exactly it. We first heard a scream, probably from Jin Dayuan’s wife, followed by a child’s cries, so I told my husband to go check it out. I thought maybe Jin Dayuan and his wife were fighting again because they often argued over Jin Dayuan’s gambling," Zhao Wanqing’s wife added.
"Alright, you can go for now. We’ll ask further if we need anything," Zhao Donglai indicated that Zhao Wanqing and his wife could leave.
"Yes, officer, please catch the murderer. Whoever did such a vile thing, not even sparing the two young children, must be caught," Zhao Wanqing’s wife said indignantly as Zhao Wanqing led her away.
