Chapter 51: Chapter 12: Jiang 3 Qiang Case Commendation Conference (Please Collect and Vote for Monthly Tickets)
After Zhao Donglai, it was Yang Su’s turn. Yang Su also deeply criticized himself and then showered Luo Fei with praise, similar to the leaders of the second and third teams who first reviewed themselves intensely and then praised Luo Fei profusely.
Over in the technical room, Yang Mei actually didn’t praise Luo Fei. She said that the technical room wasn’t very involved with the case; aside from some participation in the traces examination during the initial site investigation, the case had little to do with the technical room later on. Yang Mei promised that the technical room would actively participate in solving cases in the future.
When there are no cases, the time at the criminal police team always goes by quickly. It has been more than twenty days since the case of Wang Fu’s murder was solved, and Zhang Meng and Tang Ying have already been handed over to the prosecutor’s office.
Today was the first payday for Luo Fei at the criminal police team. Luo Fei received over 9500 yuan, of which 5500 yuan was a bonus for solving the Wang Fu case, and the remaining 4000 yuan was his salary. In general, the salary of criminal police officers is indeed higher than that of regular police officers.
Upon receiving his salary, the first thing Luo Fei did was transfer money to his uncle and second aunt. His second aunt repaid 5000 yuan, thus clearing the previous debt, and he repaid his uncle 3000 yuan, still leaving more than 10,000 yuan.
"Wang Lei, how much did you get? I got 6800 yuan, 4200 yuan salary, 2600 yuan bonus." As soon as the salary was credited, Xia Zheng couldn’t wait to ask Wang Lei. They had similar interests and were the best of friends.
"I’m about the same; I got 7000 yuan, just 200 yuan more bonus than you. My bonus was 2800 yuan." Wang Lei said somewhat boastfully.
Upon hearing this, Xia Zheng immediately expressed dissatisfaction: "Why? Why is your bonus 200 yuan more than mine? That’s unreasonable, clearly I work harder than you!"
"Nonsense, you think you work harder than me? Are you even serious?" Wang Lei showed disdain and then looked at Luo Fei and asked, "Luo Fei, did you get a 6000 yuan bonus this month?"
"No." Luo Fei shook his head.
"Impossible, Luo Fei are you sure you’re not pulling our leg? We are all straightforward people, not dealing with tricks." Xia Zheng had a disbelieving expression. Everyone knew that Luo Fei’s contribution to cracking the case was greatest, and consequently, Luo Fei’s bonus should be the highest. To say Luo Fei’s bonus didn’t exceed 6000 yuan was hard for Xia Zheng to believe.
"Why would I lie? It’s 5500 yuan." Luo Fei didn’t hide the truth.
Luo Fei understood the characters of Wang Lei, Xia Zheng, and Zhong Jun. Wang Lei and Xia Zheng loved joking around and tended to procrastinate; they weren’t very diligent in work. Zhong Jun was usually silent, seemed a bit aloof, and his biggest hobby was weightlifting.
But these three shared a common trait—they were more straightforward and pure, not people with deep schemes or jealousy. Such colleagues, Luo Fei thought, were worthy of deep friendship.
"5500 yuan, it’s about right, a second-class award. I knew Zhao was not miserly, don’t worry. This bonus is only a part; by the end of the year, there will be larger bonuses." Xia Zheng explained to Luo Fei.
After a while, Yang Su came in.
"Everyone got their salary and bonus, right? Are you satisfied?" Yang Su asked everyone with a smile.
"It’s very nice, very satisfied." Wang Lei replied loudly.
Yang Su smiled and nodded, "Satisfied is good. Our group got the most bonuses this month; other groups mostly received only 1000 yuan in bonuses. I hope everyone continues to work hard, strives to outdo other groups in upcoming months and the year-end bonuses. Do we have confidence?"
"Yes."
"Absolutely."
The atmosphere in the office was very lively because of the salary and bonus crediting.
"Why is everyone so happy!" At some point, Zhao Donglai appeared at the door, smiling.
"Zhao Leader, why are you here? Anything?" Yang Su walked over to ask.
Zhao Donglai chuckled, "Good news." He then looked over at Luo Fei and called out, "Luo Fei, come to my office with Yang Su."
Luo Fei thought Zhao Donglai was calling him and Yang Su over for more bonuses, but it was clear that Luo Fei had overthought; the bonuses were just what had been given, nothing more.
Zhao Donglai asked them over for another matter.
"I’m calling you two over because of Jiang Sanqiang’s situation. Just this noon at twelve, Jiang Sanqiang has been sentenced to death and will be executed immediately. Of course, Jiang Sanqiang being sentenced to death is not much to do with us; I’m asking you here because Thursday, there’s going to be a commendation ceremony related to Jiang Sanqiang in the city."
"Luo Fei has been given a personal second-class merit. The list is out, and Luo Fei will need to go on stage; I wanted him to prepare in advance as he’ll be receiving an award and need to speak on stage in the city."
"Second-class merit?" Yang Su was somewhat envious. He had been a criminal police officer for so many years and had only received one personal third-class merit and one personal commendation; he had never received a second-class merit. Luo Fei, so young, had just received a third-class merit and now a second-class merit. It’s hard not to be envious.
"It’s normal, given it’s Jiang Sanqiang. This contribution is substantial. Songxin Town police station benefited from Luo Fei’s achievement, earning a collective third-class merit, and Zhou Weimin was lucky enough to garner a collective third-class merit as well." Zhao Donglai said, with expression slightly regretful, pondering if he had transferred Luo Fei to the criminal team sooner, perhaps the credit would have belonged to the criminal police team.
But it was just a thought. If Luo Fei really had transferred to the criminal police team, he wouldn’t have been at Fengxing Town’s gas station inspecting posts and wouldn’t have encountered Jiang Sanqiang, nor captured Jiang Sanqiang.
Luo Fei didn’t expect the Songxin Town police station to get a collective third-class merit, but he was quite happy about it, as the Songxin Town police station marked the beginning of his career, and Zhang Haiyang and Zhou Weimin had been genuinely good to him.
"Also," Zhao Donglai continued speaking, looking at Luo Fei, "Is Zhang Haiyang your mentor?"
"Yes," Luo Fei nodded affirmatively.
"He received a personal third-class merit this time." To this, Luo Fei wasn’t surprised; with Songxin Town police station getting a collective third-class merit and Zhang Haiyang capturing Jiang Sanqiang alongside him, it’s only natural for Zhang Haiyang to earn a personal third-class merit.
"Leader, what about us at the criminal police team? Did we get anything?" Yang Su asked, as the criminal team, indeed, hadn’t seemed to contribute much to the Jiang Sanqiang case.
Luo Fei also looked towards Zhao Donglai.
Zhao Donglai glanced at Luo Fei and Yang Su, then calmly said, "The criminal police team received a collective commendation, including all units involved in Jiang Sanqiang’s pursuit are collectively commended, as a form of consolation. Though there was no considerable contribution, there was hard work after all, and that’s because the merit from Jiang Sanqiang’s case was big enough to share among everyone."
"That’s still considered good."
