The group first went to find the village chief, who led them to the suspect Ma Kai’s house.

As soon as they arrived at Ma Kai’s doorstep, Luo Fei’s eyebrows furrowed. There was a familiar smell in the air, similar to one of the hundreds of scents he had detected at the crime scene. However, Luo Fei wasn’t sure if it was the scent of the murderer or something else entirely.

Ma Kai wasn’t home, only his wife was there watching TV—a woman around forty years old, with alluring features and an extremely voluptuous figure. Despite wearing a loose sweater, a certain part of her body appeared very tight because of its enormous size.

Though she lived in the countryside, her fair skin and stylish clothing made her look more like a city woman, completely devoid of any rustic air typical of rural women.

"Ma Kai’s wife, the police are looking for Ma Kai. Do you know where he is?" the village chief asked the woman, his gaze reflecting a glint of greed.

"What’s the matter that the police are looking for Ma Kai? He went to the field to work," the woman replied, curious yet somewhat nervous upon hearing the police were after Ma Kai.

"Where is he working? We need to ask him something," Luo Fei replied, his eyes fixated on the sofa to the right of the living room door, where black aura was shrouding the sofa in his view.

Luo Fei suspected that a weapon was hidden beneath the sofa.

However, the weapon wasn’t urgent for now; the top priority was to apprehend Ma Kai.

"He’s just behind the house, digging. Let me take you there," the woman offered.

"Thank you," Luo Fei expressed his gratitude.

The woman then led Luo Fei and the others down a path behind the house to find Ma Kai.

In less than ten minutes, the woman led them to a plot of land behind which lay the expansive Qing Mountain forest, but Ma Kai was nowhere to be seen.

"Where has Ma Kai gone again?" the woman frowned, looking at the hoe thrown on the ground.

Seeing the hoe thrown aside, Luo Fei was certain that Ma Kai had noticed them the moment they entered the village, which made him run away.

"Ma Kai’s probably fled into Qing Mountain forest. Zhong Jun and Wang Lei, you two stay here and keep an eye on her. Don’t let her do anything; I’ll go chase Ma Kai," Luo Fei instructed Wang Lei and Zhong Jun, pointing at the woman.

Having Wang Lei and Zhong Jun keep watch was to prevent the woman, once aware the police were here to arrest Ma Kai, from dealing with the weapon at home. Although it’s unlikely she knew about the weapon, there was no black aura over her head, indicating she’s not an accomplice and unaware of Ma Kai’s crime. Otherwise, if she was aware and didn’t report, the black aura would surely be present over her head too.

"I’ll go with you," Wang Lei offered.

"No need, you’re unfamiliar with Qing Mountain forest and might get lost. I can handle it alone. Ma Kai probably hasn’t run far yet; I’ll catch up to him quickly," Luo Fei shook his head, then sniffed the air to trace Ma Kai’s scent, and swiftly headed into Qing Mountain forest.

Following the scent Ma Kai left, Luo Fei moved swiftly like a leopard, darting through the woods. In less than fifteen minutes, he spotted a figure ahead, racing toward the depths of Qing Mountain forest.

Without a doubt, it was Ma Kai.

Upon sighting Ma Kai, Luo Fei accelerated his pace even further.

Ma Kai was running breathlessly in front. He had been digging in the field but saw the village chief with three people heading toward his house. From the way they walked, Ma Kai assumed the three were police officers.

With no time to contemplate, Ma Kai abandoned the hoe and bolted into Qing Mountain forest. Being vast, he knew it wouldn’t be easy for the police to find him once inside.

While Ma Kai ran, he suddenly heard sounds behind him.

Turning instinctively to see what it was, his vision blurred, and the next instant, a pair of hands swiftly seized his arms, lifting him off the ground.

With a loud "bang," Luo Fei, utilizing an over-the-shoulder throw he learned from Old Man Wu, slammed Ma Kai hard onto the ground, making his head spin.

Then, with a "click," Ma Kai’s hands were twisted and cuffed.
