Waiting can be a very long process. Luo Fei thought that having lived two lives, his mind would be quite steady by now. But he overestimated himself. Just going to see a movie with Yang Mei had made him restless all day, perhaps because he had little experience in romance.
Even Wu Yan noticed Luo Fei’s unease and asked Luo Fei if something was up.
Meanwhile, in the elegantly decorated house.
"Really? Luo Fei invited you to see a movie?" Wu Xiaoyue asked excitedly, gossiping with Yang Mei, who was trying on clothes.
"Yes! You have no idea how direct this guy, Luo Fei, was. He actually straight-up asked me, ’Yang Mei, there’s a film by Zhang Yicheng premiering, would you like to see it with me?’ You can’t imagine how awkward I felt at that time. It was awkward to say yes, awkward to say no. Thinking back now, it’s really exasperating." Yang Mei spoke in a girlish manner.
"Wow, no doubt about it, this guy is definitely a straight man. But I have to admit, Luo Fei has good taste! I’ve been saying all along that you two were meant to be." Wu Xiaoyue wore a smug expression.
"Oh, I called you over to help me decide what to wear, not to sit there. Quickly, help me see if this outfit looks good or not?" Yang Mei looked at Wu Xiaoyue on the bed with dissatisfaction.
"Alright, alright, let me see what my dear sister Yang Mei should wear tonight to enchant that Luo Fei." Wu Xiaoyue laughed as she walked over.
"What are you, asking for death?" Yang Mei rolled her eyes.
At five in the afternoon, Luo Fei told Wu Yan that he wouldn’t be coming back for dinner as he would be having dinner with a colleague, then headed to the cinema.
Luo Fei arrived at the cinema at five-thirty, bought tickets for the 6:15 movie, along with a tub of popcorn and two cups of cola, then waited at the cinema entrance for Yang Mei.
At five forty, Yang Mei arrived. She didn’t drive; she walked over.
A pink scarf, a white elegant and cute French beret, a white turtleneck sweater fitted closely beneath a light-colored coat; her lower half was clad in tight jeans paired with high boots that accentuated her long, slim, and shapely legs.
The perfect ensemble made Yang Mei look both sexy and a bit playfully cute, fresh yet beautiful, truly breathtaking.
Undoubtedly, at the moment, most of the guys at the cinema entrance couldn’t help but be attracted to Yang Mei.
"Have you been waiting long?" Yang Mei approached, smiling at Luo Fei who held the cola and popcorn.
Luo Fei shook his head, "I’ve just arrived not long ago myself."
"That’s good." Yang Mei smiled.
Seeing such a pretty and poised girl happily chatting with another guy, many guys there felt heartbroken, wondering why pretty girls always belong to someone else.
"The movie starts at 6:15, we’ve got half an hour. Let’s find somewhere to sit." Luo Fei suggested.
"Okay!" Yang Mei nodded with a smile, and the two entered the cinema, finding a spot in the lounge area to sit down.
"Here’s the cola I got for you." Once sitting down, Luo Fei handed the cola to Yang Mei.
"Thank you."
"Yang Mei, what made you decide to become a detective?" To ease the possible awkwardness between them, Luo Fei proactively asked.
"I wanted to be a police officer since I was a child. Later, I smoothly got into police school, and after graduating, I managed to join the detective team." Yang Mei replied, following which she asked the question that had always puzzled her.
"And what about you? Didn’t you attend police school? Why did you suddenly decide to become a police officer?" Yang Mei asked.
"I did want to attend police school, but my grades were too low to get in. Later, I went to a regular university, and after graduating, I was preparing for the civil service exam. There happened to be a spot available at the Songxin Town police station, so I joined." Luo Fei replied with a prepared answer.
"Ah! So you got into law enforcement later because you couldn’t get into police school?" Yang Mei was surprised to hear Luo Fei couldn’t get into police school as she always saw him as exceptional and naturally assumed he was a top student in school. Who would have thought his grades weren’t good?
"Yeah, I liked to play during high school and didn’t focus on studying, so my grades weren’t great."
"If you weren’t focused on studying, what were you focused on? Was it romance?" Yang Mei instinctively asked and immediately regretted her abruptness.
"No romance, just pure fun, like playing games." Luo Fei thought for a moment and replied.
The subsequent conversation between Luo Fei and Yang Mei was quite enjoyable.
Unknowingly, it was almost 6:15, and the two seemed reluctant to stop chatting.
"The movie’s about to start, should we go in?" Luo Fei reminded.
"Mm," Yang Mei nodded.
As they headed towards the ticket checkpoint.
"Bzz bzz bzz." Luo Fei’s phone vibrated in his pocket. Looking at the caller ID, he saw it was Zhao Donglai.
Luo Fei frowned slightly, feeling a bad premonition.
"It’s a call from Captain Zhao, let me take this." Luo Fei informed Yang Mei, paused, and took the call.
"Luo Fei, where are you now?" As soon as he picked up, Zhao Donglai’s anxious voice came through.
Luo Fei glanced at Yang Mei beside him and then answered, "I’m outside, what’s up Captain Zhao? Did something happen?"
