Chapter 227: One Fault In Him

Chapter 227: One Fault In Him

When Director Sarian and Lola walked into the room from the other corner, people instinctively turned to them. Their thoughts quickly jumped to: Uh oh.

Others, like Manager Kang and Simon, sneered and nodded to themselves. At that point, they knew Lola was in trouble—especially when she suddenly looked panicked. But then, all they heard was...

"Oh, sis!"

Everyone froze, turning toward the source of the voice. Sure enough, their gaze landed on Slater. His face slowly brightened as he removed his sunglasses, revealing a pair of charming eyes on a perfectly symmetrical face.

"Pretty sis, it’s me~!"

The moment those words rolled off his tongue, Slater rushed toward Lola and Director Sarian. The crew’s jaws dropped, eyes wide in disbelief.

"P—pretty?" one of them blurted. "Where?"

"Did he mean someone else?" another asked loudly enough for the room to hear.

Deep lines appeared between Cedrick’s brows as he eyed Slater, then Lola. The rest of the crew scanned the room, unsure who Slater was referring to. Who knows? Maybe there was another beauty, and they were mistaking Slater’s words.

No way that guy would call that woman pretty.

But then, Slater stopped in front of Lola and Director Sarian. His face seemed to glow, and everyone instinctively squinted from the intensity of his natural sparkle. Even Lola and Director Sarian, standing directly in its path, blinked rapidly.

"Taz, I think... I’m seeing an angel," Director Sarian muttered under his breath, torn between awe and shock.

Even in a room full of attractive people, Slater clearly existed on a different level—like a real angel.

Lola silently thanked her long eyelashes for shielding her eyes from the blinding glow.

I see him practically every day, but I still can’t get used to it.

Slater’s grin stretched from ear to ear, and his brows shot up as he finally noticed Director Sarian.

"Oh." He cleared his throat and smiled politely. "Hello, Director Sarian. I’ve heard a lot of good things about you. I’m looking forward to working with you, but you don’t have to take care of me."

He then pointed at Lola, making her flinch. "She’ll take care of me. Don’t feel bad. I’m not saying you’re bad at your job, but I protect my peace by surrounding myself with beautiful people."

"Ah..." Director Sarian tilted his head. "Beautiful people... huh?"

Slater nodded without hesitation. Lola turned to Director Sarian as he glanced at her, shaking her head profusely.

Everyone else could only stare with their mouths open.

Cedrick darted his eyes between them before letting out a secret sigh of relief. Slowly, the corners of his mouth curved upward.

That fixes it,

he thought, observing the dumbfounded faces around him. I guess Slater isn’t like everyone else.

Is he blind? Director Sarian wondered in shock, but it didn’t matter.

"Alright!" Director Sarian clapped, mentally cheering and throwing his hands in the air. No more worries about any complaints from the guy, then.

"Slater, I’ll leave you in Taz’s care, alright?" he grinned. "We’re on a short break, but she’ll brief you on the reading and your script."

Lola opened her mouth. "Director—"

"Taz, I’ll leave him to you!" he interrupted, squeezing her shoulder. "I can rely on you for that, right, beautiful Taz?"

"Are you making fun of me?"

"Great!" Director Sarian ignored her, clapping louder and addressing the crew. "Prepare for our reading. Slater will be joining us."

His voice snapped everyone out of their trance, though they could barely muster a quiet, "Okay."

Director Sarian patted Lola’s back lightly before walking off with Ida and a few staff members. Those left behind could only stare at Lola and Slater. He was smiling from ear to ear, but when he glanced around the room. His face suddenly twisted in dismay, as if he had spotted something ridiculous.

"Sis, I only look at pretty things and people," he said, loud enough for everyone to hear, fixing his gaze on Lola. Then, dramatically spreading his arms in front of her, he added, "This is healing."

"Healing?" Manager Kang scoffed, only to flinch under Slater’s sharp glare.

Slater slowly pointed at him, narrowing his eyes, then tilted his head and clicked his tongue. "Nah... that’s not Cookie Monster. Cookie Monster is cute, but this guy... what costume is that? I need to know ASAP."

Lola pursed her lips while everyone else gasped.

"Pfft—" Cedrick stifled a laugh and lowered his head, earning a glare from Simon.

Manager Kang, a veteran respected among other managers and artists, could ruin one’s reputation with a few words. Yet here was Slater, asking him what costume he was wearing—when everyone knew only Lola was in costume.

Manager Kang’s face turned red, but he grinned. "Slater, haha... good one." He marched toward them, offering his hand. "I’m Manager Kang and I..."

"Sis, where do I sit?" Slater ignored him, turning to Lola. "I want to sit next to you."

"I sit on the sidelines, Slater."

"Then I’ll sit there—"

"No." Lola pinched the bridge of her nose, forcing a smile. She pointed at the table. "You can sit over there with the actors, okay?"

She raised her brows, glancing at everyone, and a mischievous idea formed in her head. "Also, I don’t want to distract anyone. They said I was a little... distracting."

"Who said that to my sister!?" Slater whipped his head toward the actors, only to see them shaking their heads. He then turned to Manager Kang, who forced a big smile.

"Haha... of course not... I mean, Taz is distracting... because of her..."

He trailed off, studying that living horror from head to toe. Clenching his teeth, he forced out the word:

"...beauty."

"Oh! Haha!" Slater nodded, hands on his hips. "If that is the case, then I can’t blame you. Having someone as beautiful as a goddess can surprise mortals like you."

He grinned. "But that’s what being an actor is about, right? If a beauty distracts you during a reading, it’s not their fault—it’s a skill issue. But I don’t think you guys suck. Otherwise, Director Sarian and our pretty goddess here wouldn’t have chosen you!"

Slater sprawled his arms across Lola’s shoulders and laughed. Everyone’s faces contorted, but all they could do was watch.

Did Slater have one fault, and that was an eye problem?!

In the end, no one said a word—not even Manager Kang or Simon—because they didn’t want to anger Slater. And because of him, Lola ended up at the long table, directing everyone’s focus to the script, just to avoid distraction by the walking chaos among them.
