Chapter 62: Fulfilling Miss Evelyn’s Promise

Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Fulfilling Miss Evelyn’s Promise

Simon’s face contorted into horror, staring at the black clad man who first issued the command, beside him stood the Assassin, the very same Assassin that he sent behind Nathan, the very same Assassin who has just broken his legs a few moments ago.

A shivering realization hit him at the realisation that what he thought as his own strength had turned against him.

"What the fuck is happening!" he thought, horrified. "Why would Jacob obey him rather than me, does he not want his mother anymore?

Jacob attacked him by surprise, which rendered him completely helpless and at their mercy.

If not for Jacob standing at a distance, Simon would have gambled his everything on escaping, relying on his swift movement despite his legs broken he can still temporarily run due to a secret technique.

But with Jacob blocking the only escape route, his hope for survival collapsed at that instant.

"You bastard!"

"Didn’t you care about your mother anymore?!"

"If I died you will never get to see your mother live another day!"

"Ha ha ha, Simon oh how foolish you’re, you don’t even know that I have already rescued my mother from your dirty hands yesterday." Jacob seeing him shouting couldn’t help but add some salt on his wounds.

He will die in agony that his wish of taking Jacob’s mother with him in hell is not fulfilled.

At this time, Simon has lost all of his hope.

Nathan at this time roared, his fury unmatched.

He swung his blade with ruthless strength, severing Simon’s head in a single, merciless stroke.

Even that didn’t soothe his anger towards Simon earlier taunt about his sister.

"You had the nerve to say things about my sister like that!"

"Even if you are dead, I’ll still rip your body apart to calm my nerves!"

Antonio charged forward too, no less angry avenging his sister too, and slashed the dead body, ripping a huge gap in it as if to express his fury.

Jacob also attacked with no hesitation at all. His final blow neatly severed his two most trusted men, leaving nothing but shattered bodies behind.

Alex’s tone after all this was calm, yet piercing.

"Grind their bones and scatter them into the Axe Gang’s well. Remember—don’t use poison. We are law-abiding citizens. We never commit evil deeds."

"Alright then Boss! If they dared to threaten me with my mother, I’ll smash their bones to dust with my fists, haha! Beasts like them deserve nothing less!"

Jacob sneered. He was quick and efficient. After finishing, he stuffed the corpse into a sack and hurried out.

The other members of the Viper syndicate began to clean up the mess around the surroundings.

After some time the surrounding look as clear as before the conflict.

"Boss! There’s plenty of gold, silver, and jewelry here."

Rummaging through the loots Alex found several valuables.

"Huh? What’s this?"

"A jade bracelet?"

Alex untied the bag Simon had been holding.

Inside were fat piles of banknotes and a heap of valuable jewelleries.

Counting carefully, he discovered three big glowing pearls, some beautifully made jade bracelets, and a dozen or so gold bars.

What was intended as tribute for the Maxwell family had now landed in his possession.

"Sigh.... it’s so easy to become wealthy by way of killing," Alex muttered to himself, "What a pity I am a good person....a pity indeed."

The money alone could be sold for a fortune, valued in excess of six thousand in gold.

But what most excited him was the gems and jadeites.

If taken into modern world, they’d be worth an astronomical sum.

"Brother Alex, all has been tidied up," Nathan said.

The boyish innocence in his features had been replaced by a small hint of ferocity following his first kill.

"Good. Let’s go back. By now, Miss Evelyn must be at your place already," Alex said, looking up at the darkening clouds in the sky.

Due to the accident the previous day, Miss Evelyn’s plan had been postponed a day.

Alex and Nathan, who were dressed in black clothes, silently came back to the Hartwell family mansion.

Miss Evelyn and Lucy sat together in the courtyard, laughing and chatting, their presence bringing warmth and light to the courtyard surroundings.

"Miss Evelyn, Brother Alex is back," Lucy cried out, his eyes wide with surprise.

He knew where Alex and Nathan had headed before, and the fact that they were safe could only mean one thing....Alex’s bold scheme had succeeded.

Simon Reed can be presumed dead.

Miss Evelyn stood up elegantly, her white formal gown cascading like snow in the morning sunshine.

Her beauty was effortless, and when she talked, her voice held the pure tune of a songbird.

"Mr. Alex, you have once promised me that you would track down the bandits’ lair," she spoke softly.

"I Wonder how much progress you have made so far in it?,"

"I have already found it," said Alex.

"This map will guide you straight to the bandits’ den."

He pulled out a creased parchment from his pocket, painstakingly sketched by himself last night again as he found that many details can be added to enrich the map.

"This is..." Miss Evelyn’s eyes, clear and deep as autumn streams, were filled with doubt about its authenticity.

But she nonetheless read the map lines, incapable of concealing her fascination.

"It is the map I drew," Alex described the map markings.

"By careful examination, I have found out that their hideout was well-guarded in a special way. There are cliffs on the mountain that provide cover, and iron chains linking both sides, completely covering them."

He went into great detail about what he had observed while conducting his investigation, indicating how to correctly interpret the markings on the map.

His words vividly portrayed the scene, leaving no question about it.

The courtyard went silent as all of them digested the revelation.

It was only then that they realized the bandits’ cleverness... constructing their den atop a vertical cliff, locked in place by chains, practically undetectable.

Without Alex’s keen eye and meticulous investigation, the authorities would probably never have discovered it.

Otherwise the bandits base might have been concealed for a lifetime, its secret forever lost in the wild.
