Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Commissioning The Serial Killer - Jacob Stone

Getting the drone landed and after packing it, Alex pulled out a sheet of paper and a pen, and started doodling a map of the Mangshan Mountains hidden intricate layers, circling carefully the known bandit hideouts on it.

Thanks to his more than average sketching abilities, he was done in under half an hour.

"The drawing looks fine to me," Alex grunted pleased with himself.

On its face, the map was neat and clean-looking, every line, every stroke is skilled, every mark etched perfectly on it.

"It’s done. Now, I simply have to drop this off at Miss Evelyn’s House, and the mission will be considered finished."

Folding the map in a neat square, Alex stuffed it into his pocket.

After giving one last look at the bandits hiding in the distance he lazily stretches his arms and legs tired from climbing the mountains, he prepared to leave for now.

Confronting them head on will be utter foolishness.

I am not like those hot-headed protagonist with protagonist halo to save them from perils.

Half an hour ago

Within the local government building, Simon Reed, chief of the city guard, was in earnest discussion with a professional killer.

A couple of days back, Simon had discovered that the impenetrable Black market water shop that he was operating had been destroyed, Fury seethed within him after hearing about it.

His brother, Charles Reed, was even more worthless, commanding dozens of men and still losing to a gang led by nothing but a boy? Pathetic.

A shame to the Reed family name.

But what really infuriated Simon was the fact that Nathan Hartwell not only destroyed his business, but also razed his black-market water shop to dust in front of all the people damaging his reputation.

It was a direct challenge to his authority.

The earnings of that store had made him wealthy, already earned him the promotion to Chief Constable, and even earned him ties with a number of powerful nobles in the upper echelons.

His career was in full flight, all because of that illegal trade.

And now? It had all been destroyed his future plans, his ambitions, all had gone to dust with his water shop

Simon Reed could not just sit around anymore after this. He had planned his revenge in his mind already.

He wanted Nathan Hartwell dead.

Once Nathan was eliminated, the Hartwell family would be nothing but a toothless tiger.

And Simon had no intention of leaving until he found out exactly where Nathan had gotten that abundant supply of water.

Simon mission was very straightforward for the killer, only two things counted.

First, Nathan Hartwell had to die.

Second, he wanted to know where the water that Nathan Hartwell had been selling actually originated from.

The reason he came to see the murderer today was solely to make him do these two things.

"My terms are straightforward," Simon proposed airily. "You must kill Nathan and determine where the Hartwell family obtains their water, and I can forgive your capital crime.

Even, I can offer you a second chance to live in this city a free man without any charges.

The man in front of him was not just any common criminal of the Ironhold city.

Jacob Stone was a serial killer, a man who had trained his body using violent and brutal means.

His martial art was legendary, his bones and flesh have become as hard as armor after his training.

It would have been almost impossible to catch him if it weren’t for the fact that Jacob had been drunk and unconscious on the street.

Jacob listenend to the proposed condition and gave a harsh laugh. "Heh. I did not think your government would sink so low. You want me to do your dirty work?"

His eyes shone coldly as the shackles around his wrists and ankles clanked with each movement. "Aren’t you scared that the moment I set foot free, you will be the first man I kill?"

Simon’s smile grew sharp. "As I dare to offer you this job, I of course have some means of controlling you. I have found out that your old mother resides in a village just beyond the city. Ashford Village, isn’t it?"

"The elderly are so vulnerable. Accidents are so simple. A fall into a river, a tumble along the path, a tragic drowning.

Don’t you believe such things can happen with her?

Jacob’s eyes were set ablaze with rage after hearing the naked threat.

His face pales, his breath thick. "You dare try to threaten me with my mother? You motherfu*ker!"

The chains jangled wildly as he struggled, the noise reverberating in the cell.

His killing aura was so intense that it was as if the iron might break at any moment.

"As expected of a man who trained his body to be hard as stones," Simon said calmly. "Your power is truly remarkable.

If Jacob were anywhere less rebellious, Simon would actually have thought of hiring him.

A man like that, unyielding, deadly, ruthless could be an invaluable tool in anyone’s hands.

But as the saying goes: A lion never bends.

And Simon was aware that such men could never be domesticated.

Therefore there was only one way to utilize him, once, and only once.

The promise Simon had just given Jacob was, naturally, a falsehood.

As soon as Jacob completed the task, Simon would instruct his troops to murder him.

There were two advantages of this scheme:

First, after Jacob’s death, Nathan killing could never be linked back to Simon.

Second, the eradication of a serial killer would earn Simon significant credit before his superiors.

Two birds with one stone— a well thought solution.

Simon’s cold smile grew deeper. "I don’t have any time to lose. If you refuse, you’d better be prepared to pick up your mother’s body."

Jacob’s fury seethed, but finally he had no choice but to bend his head.

"....Fine I will do it. Just let me out."
