Chapter 123: Chapter 122: I’ll Personally Show You the Way
Song Wei has never been picky about food; whatever Wen Wan cooks, he eats.
A simple dinner passed just like that.
After dinner, Song Fang let Wen Wan rest, while she went to tidy up the kitchen and boiled water to make tea for Song Wei.
The main room had three sections, with the middle one arranged by Wen Wan as the living room. The room wasn’t large, but because it only had a dining table and some benches, it appeared a bit empty.
However, Wen Wan figured that since her husband would only study for a year, the furniture, though old, would suffice, and there was no need to replace them. Only the kitchen required some proper tidying, as it was necessary to have one’s own utensils for daily meals rather than using those left by others.
In this regard, Wen Wan was particularly careful.
Song Wei, feeling sorry for her after the tiring journey to the Capital and being busy all day without rest, went to the kitchen himself to boil a large pot of hot water.
There was no way to take a bath yet since they hadn’t bought a bathtub, so Wen Wan could only mix some water to wipe herself down.
It was already early October winter, and the nights in the Capital were markedly cold. Even though her hair had gathered dust while cleaning during the day, Wen Wan dared not wash it. She thought she must endure for the night and wait until the toiletries were fully prepared the next day to enjoy a proper hot bath to warm herself.
The couple’s bedroom was in the main building, Song Wei’s study in the West Wing, and Song Fang chose her room in the East Wing.
After a busy day, all three were exhausted and turned in shortly after nightfall.
Wen Wan stared at the top of the bed canopy, unable to close her eyes.
During the day, with things to do, there was no time for idle thoughts. But now that it was quiet, her mind was suddenly filled with chaotic thoughts.
Before reaching the Capital, she was full of anticipation, but upon arriving, it seemed a little different from what she imagined.
Song Wei noticed she was still awake and asked softly, "Can’t sleep?"
Wen Wan nodded.
She was introverted, and the more people she faced, the greater the chance that her inability to converse fluently would be exposed, making her somewhat anxious.
But fortunately, with her husband by her side, it seemed that as long as he was there, everything would cease to be a problem, and all her anxiety and fears would disappear unnoticed.
——
Song Wei went to the Imperial College early in the morning, instructing Wen Wan before he left that it was cold outside and that she should stay at home, waiting until he returned from school to buy what they needed.
In front of Song Wei, Wen Wan wholeheartedly agreed.
But the moment her husband left, she took her sister-in-law to the market.
Her husband was not in charge of the household and naturally wouldn’t know what to buy. Relying on him, they might not have all the necessities even after several days.
——
Song Wei stood in front of the Great Success Gate of the Imperial College, looking up at the majestic plaque overhead with a heart filled with reverence.
Just as he was about to find someone to inquire about where new students should meet their scholar, he saw a figure flash by. The person was a handsome young man wearing the uniform of the Imperial College, around twenty years old, who casually placed a hand on Song Wei’s shoulder, "New student?"
Song Wei glanced at him but did not respond.
The young man raised an eyebrow, "The Imperial College is huge. Without someone to guide you, you won’t be able to find the scholar."
Song Wei’s expression remained indifferent, clearly showing no intention of engaging.
Unfazed, the young man introduced himself outright, "Name’s Xu Shu, an Imperial College supervisor. You’re a tribute student from the provinces, aren’t you? How about this: you help me with something, and I’ll act as your guide, personally taking you to meet the scholar. How does that sound?"
