Chapter 31 Rumors of the Dungeon

In her previous life, Tang Li had always lived on the surface.

She knew that after the apocalypse, it was utterly impossible to rebuild civilization on the surface!

The typhoons, torrential rain, floods, and thunderstorms of the present were merely the beginning.

Over the next four years, there would be solar storms, severe droughts, widespread famine, major earthquakes, colossal tsunamis, meteorite impacts, volcanic eruptions, and invasions of toxic creatures…

All sorts of unprecedented natural disasters in human history would occur consecutively, leaving people overwhelmed.

On the surface, life itself was a struggle; how could it be possible to rebuild?

However, in her past life, Tang Li had always heard rumors about underground cities.

Besides hearing that the three major underground cities still used a point system, she had also heard many other whispers about them.

Some said that within the underground cities, all industrial and agricultural production had been restored, and people's lives were much like they were before the apocalypse.

Others claimed that although the underground cities initially had limited capacity, they were continuously expanding underground and outwards, with the eventual goal of accommodating everyone.

According to this information, perhaps rebuilding a home underground was truly feasible!

However, Tang Li couldn't be sure of the veracity of these rumors.

This was because, in her previous life, Tang Li had never visited an underground city while she was alive. Her understanding of them was limited to hearsay.

Even though the distance from City A to Jiangcheng was short, requiring only a little over three hours by car before the apocalypse, Tang Li, on foot, had walked for two years in the post-apocalyptic world without reaching it.

She had also heard that the Jiangcheng Underground City would dispatch rescue teams to search for survivors in the surrounding areas.

Yet, in the extreme cold season of the apocalypse's fourth year, she had reached the vicinity of the Jiangcheng Underground City, only to perish at the hands of cannibalistic demons.

In addition to these positive accounts, there were also negative rumors circulating about the underground cities.

Some said that the underground cities enforced strict, militaristic management, making them incredibly oppressive.

Others claimed that underground cities were the domain of the wealthy, and those without points were worse off than those living on the surface.

Still others alleged that the underground cities were populated by mad scientists who enjoyed capturing living people for human experimentation…

And so on, the list was endless.

In her previous life, Tang Li had never encountered any items that originated from the underground cities, nor had she ever met anyone who had emerged from them, so she was uncertain which of these rumors were true and which were false.

There were also claims that underground cities didn't even spare the deceased, either using their bodies as fertilizer for crops or as feed for mealworms, which was no different from cannibalism.

Tang Li had not believed this particular rumor during her lifetime.

This was because she had also heard that one absolutely could not consume human flesh to enter an underground city; anyone who had eaten it was forbidden entry.

It was precisely because of this that, holding onto the hope of entering an underground city, Tang Li, in her past life, had never entertained the thought of eating human flesh, no matter how hungry she was.

She believed that this rumor was fabricated by those who were denied entry due to cannibalism, serving as a slander against the underground cities.

However, in her final moments, a faint utterance she heard seemed to confirm this rumor.

Although she was still uncertain whether the words she heard before dying were true or merely a hallucination.

In this life, Tang Li planned to drive quickly to the Jiangcheng shelter before the end of the extreme cold season and the onset of the solar storm, and to participate directly in the construction process of the Jiangcheng Underground City.

This way, she could quickly discern the truth or falsehood of those rumors from her past life.

On September 9th, the rain in City A stopped.

Tang Li had considered retrieving her assault boat to check on Tang Guo.

However, with the martial law in effect and the surrounding areas flooded, going out now would attract too much attention, which did not align with Tang Li's low-key nature. Furthermore, there was a curfew at night, so Tang Li temporarily abandoned the idea.

During these days, Tang Li continued to exercise at home. Her physical strength had reached a terrifying level!

Year 341, September 10th, morning.

Tang Li was at home, performing her routine exercises.

Suddenly, there was a knock on her door.

Tang Li was startled.

If she recalled correctly, ever since Zhang Yan had left last time, it had been over a month since anyone had knocked on her door.

She quickly asked, "Who is it?"

A steady, strong male voice from outside replied, "May I ask if Ms. Tang Li is home?"

Tang Li: "This is she. What is it?"

"Hello, Ms. Tang Li. We are from the A City Martial Law Enforcement Agency. It has been discovered that you own several properties. We will be temporarily requisitioning them for the resettlement of disaster victims."
