Chapter 409 The Plan to Keep Them

Lan Yan was helped onto the carriage by Jun Ye Lan. Seeing his retreating figure, she quickly grabbed his sleeve.

"Jun Ye Lan, I haven't seen the army doctor yet."

Jun Ye Lan looked down at his sleeve, his eyes darkening slightly. "Since you are injured, I will not leave." Seeing Nie Ye approaching, he pulled back his sleeve and stood coldly to the side.

Lan Yan looked at her palm, "..."

Nie Ye was called by Ruan Yuan. Seeing the state of these two, he was full of bewilderment. His attention was focused on Lan Yan's leg, and he rolled up her trouser leg to examine the wound.

But where was the wound? He twisted Lan Yan's ankle again, which seemed fine, and asked, "General, how is your leg?"

Lan Yan glanced sideways at Jun Ye Lan. Seeing him looking ahead, she rolled her eyes. She cleared her throat, sighed, and said, "My leg hurts, and it feels numb, anyway, I can't walk."

Upon hearing this, Nie Ye became even more confused. Had he misdiagnosed it himself! He looked again and said, "General, your leg..."

"Cough, cough." Lan Yan looked at Nie Ye, her eyes averted. Seeing Nie Ye's blank expression, she whispered, "Army Doctor Nie, my leg is really injured."

She nodded.

Nie Ye glanced at Jun Ye Lan, then at Lan Yan staring at him, and suddenly understood. He took out a bottle of medicine and said, "It is indeed quite serious. You need to apply the medicine every morning and evening and avoid strenuous movement."

"General, I will go and prepare your medicine. I'll take my leave now."

"Go ahead." Lan Yan waved goodbye with a smile and watched Nie Ye leave. She immediately looked at Jun Ye Lan with a wronged expression. "Jun Ye Lan, Army Doctor Nie just said that my injury makes it difficult to move. But I want to drink water."

Jun Ye Lan turned his head and saw the fleeting cunning in Lan Yan's eyes, then looked at her wronged little face. He turned and went to the table and poured a glass of water.

Lan Yan secretly rejoiced behind him. When Jun Ye Lan returned, she drank the water contentedly. "Jun Ye Lan, I..."

"What else do you want!" Jun Ye Lan clenched his fists, his eyes showing a hint of coldness.

Lan Yan froze, her small face scrunched up. She said pitifully, "I wanted to say, you should go and rest. There's nothing else here." She deliberately lay down as if sulking, pulling up the blanket.

She had said enough to Jun Ye Lan today, and she would continue tomorrow.

Jun Ye Lan, however, froze by the bedside, looking at Lan Yan lying on her side. He couldn't see Lan Yan's face, and thinking of the expression Lan Yan had shown, he wondered if he had spoken too harshly!

A trace of annoyance welled up in his heart. He sat down and stared at Lan Yan's back.

From the beginning, when Lan Yan appeared in that room, he had been wary of her, suspecting she had ulterior motives. But Lan Yan had only brought him back to the army camp and taken good care of him.

He knew he had no value. Not only was his appearance monstrous, but his identity as a useless priest meant he deserved no special treatment.

He thought Lan Yan was putting on an act, hiding a bigger purpose. But after spending a few days together, he found Lan Yan to be straightforward and harbor no ill will towards him.

"Lan Yan, who exactly are you?"

Lan Yan on the bed turned over, her feet unconsciously kicking off the blanket. She slept soundly and unrestrained.

Time paused for a moment. Jun Ye Lan got up, pulled the blanket over Lan Yan, and tucked in the edges. He looked at Lan Yan's face, completely unable to understand this person, and sat down again.

He sat by the bed all night.

The next morning, Ruan Yuan stood outside the tent with breakfast and called out, "General, are you awake?"

Jun Ye Lan, startled from his seat, turned to look at the still sleeping Lan Yan and walked out.

Ruan Yuan looked at Jun Ye Lan with a slight surprise and peeked inside, but Jun Ye Lan blocked her view of Lan Yan's bed. Feeling Jun Ye Lan's gaze on her, she inexplicably felt a chill and quickly handed him the tray.

"Tell the General that soldiers have been arranged for local rest. Please ask the General to recuperate with peace of mind." After saying this, she scurried away, shivering. She truly couldn't understand how the General could share a room with Jun Ye Lan.

Jun Ye Lan looked at the porridge bowl on the tray and brought it to the bedside. Seeing Lan Yan about to roll off, he reached out and caught her.

He looked at the person sleeping soundly in his arms, his eyes darkening. How could Lan Yan manage this!

He placed the tray by the bed, put his arms around Lan Yan's waist, and motionlessly returned her to the bedside. He looked at his chair, moved it, and brought it closer to the bed.

The chair made a creaking sound. Lan Yan rubbed her eyes and looked at Jun Ye Lan in front of her in confusion. How could she see Jun Ye Lan so early in the morning, moving a chair? She thought she had misread.

Jun Ye Lan was slightly taken aback. He put the chair back down and looked at the porridge bowl on the bedside. "This is today's breakfast."

"Oh, have you eaten?" Lan Yan sleepily began to dress.

Jun Ye Lan quickly turned away and stood with his back to Lan Yan, saying, "I'll eat outside." His earlobes turned red, and he quickly walked out of the tent, forever unable to understand Lan Yan's actions, her complete lack of defense towards him!

He turned back with a deep gaze and headed towards the kitchen.

Lan Yan was left alone in the tent, still half-awake. Seeing that Jun Ye Lan had left, she quickly got up and stretched her limbs.

She would become useless if she lay in bed all day. Hearing the movement at the door, she quickly sat back on the bed.

Ruan Yuan entered with a cane, "General, I know you can't stay put, so I've brought you a cane, thinking you could get out of bed and walk around. The army doctor said it would help with your recovery."

"Deputy General Ruan and Army Doctor Nie are very thoughtful." Lan Yan said, relieved that it wasn't Jun Ye Lan who had entered. "So, I'd like to go out and get some sun."

Ruan Yuan immediately handed her the cane, "General, I'll accompany you."

Lan Yan nodded, placed the cane under her armpit, and walked out with Ruan Yuan. She saw the dejected expressions of the soldiers and called out, "Soldiers, this General was merely injured by remnants. I am now much better."

The soldiers gathered around Lan Yan, their heads bowed, not speaking.

Lan Yan asked, "Do you have anything to say?"

One of the soldiers said, "General, those remnants are people from the Ying Kingdom. We are worried that there might be an inside informant around you."

Lan Yan understood. It turned out to be about Jun Ye Lan. "Everyone, I was able to save my life this time thanks to Jun Ye Lan. He rescued me despite the danger, and he has been taking good care of me these past few days."

"Deputy General Ruan can attest to this."

The soldiers looked at Ruan Yuan. Seeing her nod, they were greatly reassured. At the same time, their perception of Jun Ye Lan began to change. He was the one who had saved their General.

Lan Yan smiled with satisfaction as she observed the soldiers' reactions. She chatted with them for a while longer before returning, leaning on the cane, her eyes filled with laughter.

She was indeed a little clever, making it easier for Jun Ye Lan to integrate here, so he wouldn't just think of leaving.

Jun Ye Lan emerged from the kitchen and saw the soldiers staring at him. He walked past them with cold eyes.

However, this time the soldiers approached him. He frowned and tightened his grip on the dagger in his sleeve.
