Lan Yan dazedly opened her eyes, rubbing her head. What had happened just now? She looked around, and found herself back in the system interface, the very place she had started!
“Did I finish the last world?”
“Host, you’re awake.” The system suddenly appeared, staring at Lan Yan with an apologetic expression.
Lan Yan patted her chest, grumbling, “Stupid system, couldn’t you at least give a greeting? I’m going to be scared to death by you sooner or later.” She thought it was another system malfunction that brought her here.
“Host, I…” The system lowered its head, fiddling with its fingers.
Lan Yan looked at the system; this was not its usual behavior. “System, if you have something to say, spit it out, don’t beat around the bush.” She continued to rub her head, her head aching terribly.
Images kept flashing in her mind, but they were not of experiences she had.
The system, thinking of the man just now, swallowed and said evasively, “Host, I actually lied to you. There’s a secret mission for letting you enter these quick transmigration worlds.”
Seeing Lan Yan’s expressionless face, not shocked, it asked in confusion, “Host, you already knew.”
“I guessed,” Lan Yan shrugged nonchalantly. “You always only tell half of the story, so of course there are issues. Tell me, is the mission related to fragments?”
The system was startled. As expected of the host. “Actually, each world has a fragment belonging to Jun Yelan, who is also the big boss of our quick transmigration world.”
“What big boss?” Lan Yan frowned, not having thought of this.
The system explained, “A long time ago, a rebellion broke out in our quick transmigration world. In each world, there were some NPCs, also known as extras. One of these extras, after being abused physically and emotionally by arriving hosts, awakened.”
“He organized other extras to resist, causing multiple small worlds to collapse. The big boss then went to handle it, quelled the rebellion, but his soul turned into fragments and was sent into worlds that were extremely difficult to conquer.”
“We systems were helpless, so we had to find hosts, and we failed many times. You, host, are the only one who succeeded, collecting all the fragments and saving our big boss.”
After hearing all this, Lan Yan finally understood. No wonder the system had been so secretive; there were such connections. She thought back to what had happened and asked, “System, you erased my memories, didn’t you!”
The system nodded sheepishly, “Host, I did it for your own good, so there wouldn’t be memory confusion.”
“Heh, I should thank you,” Lan Yan said irritably. “So, you’re saying I meet Jun Yelan, your big boss, in every world. Where is he now?”
Since she was back, Jun Yelan must have returned too.
The system said, “Host, follow me.” It walked ahead, leading Lan Yan through a corridor into the room at the end.
As she pushed open the door, a white light blinded her eyes, and she instinctively raised her hand to shield them.
Then, a spacious room appeared before her. Nine fragments hovered in the air, and behind them was a bed where Jun Yelan lay.
She was stunned. The current Jun Yelan didn’t have white hair and eyebrows; instead, black tresses cascaded behind him. Many memories suddenly flooded her mind: the God of War of the Snake Clan, the disfigured prince, the city lord of the dead city…
The fragments floated before Lan Yan, projecting scenes.
In the first fragment, she watched fireworks with Jun Yelan.
In the second fragment, she and Jun Yelan exchanged good luck copper coins.
In the third fragment, she played the flute while Jun Yelan was being punished and stripped of his city lord title…
In the last fragment, she hid a strand of her hair in a sachet, and Jun Yelan tied it to his wrist.
Watching these scenes, Lan Yan found herself weeping uncontrollably. She walked to the bedside, squatted down, held Jun Yelan’s hand, and murmured, “Jun Yelan, I’m here.”
As she spoke, all the fragments entered Jun Yelan’s body, and his complexion improved.
Lan Yan touched Jun Yelan’s cheek, a slight smile on her lips. “You’re still so handsome. Jun Yelan, I told you I came for you, to protect you, to love you.”
“Do you know, no matter how many times I forget you, I’ll find you and stay by your side again. You’re the same, aren’t you? Desperately coming to my side, wanting to see me.”
She also saw the scene after she left; Jun Yelan did not choose to live alone but followed her. This silly man, though he never said it, she knew he was the one who loved her most in this world.
“So Jun Yelan, try one more time, wake up and see me, okay!”
Jun Yelan’s eyelids flickered. A voice kept echoing in his mind, telling him to wake up. The memories in his head were a mess, unable to distinguish reality from illusion.
But he remembered one person’s smile, remembered everything that person liked, and remembered that person’s name – Lan Yan!
“Yan’er!” he cried out, opening his deep eyes.
Lan Yan’s tears flowed, crying and laughing, “I’m here.”
She threw herself into Jun Yelan’s embrace and shouted, “I’m telling you, if you ever make me cry again, I’ll really ignore you.”
Jun Yelan was slightly taken aback, then curved his lips, stroking Lan Yan’s back. “Yan’er, never again. I, Jun Yelan, will use everything to protect you and love you.”
He finally understood why a figure kept appearing in his mind when he experienced those small worlds. Because that figure was Lan Yan, the one engraved on his soul.
“Yan’er, I’m actually a cold person. I didn’t feel anything when I saw that rebellion. I didn’t even understand why he was like that, just for one person.”
“Before he disappeared, he cursed me, to make me suffer what he had suffered. I didn’t take it seriously then, until I entered those small worlds and met you.”
“My heart trembled for you because you came alive. When I lost you, my world became empty, as if dead.”
Lan Yan looked up, cupping Jun Yelan’s face with both hands, and nodded, “We will never be separated again. Whoever dares to disrupt us again, I’ll beat them.”
“Good.” Jun Yelan’s eyes were full of doting affection, and he held Lan Yan’s hand. “From now on, wherever you are, I am.” He pulled Lan Yan into his arms and kissed her lips.
Lan Yan was stunned, hugging Jun Yelan’s waist, and closed her eyes.
At that moment, by the door of the room, the system covered its eyes with its hands, peeking through its fingers with a playful smile. Suddenly, something blocked its view, and it shouted, “Who is it? Don’t block my sight.”
As it spoke, it felt a chill down its spine. It looked up at the man with a cold expression and trembled, saying, “Greetings, new big boss.”
The man stood to the side, his phoenix eyes upturned, coupled with his androgynous face, making him even more alluring. But his eyes were icy cold; this beauty was combined with frost, making people afraid to approach.
They could only admire from afar, not dare to touch.
He looked at the two embracing figures and said, “You’ve been accompanying her, I won’t do anything to you.”
“Thank you, new big boss.” The system wiped the cold sweat from its forehead. This person was even more terrifying than the previous big boss, truly the child of the big boss and Lan Yan.
It asked, “Aren’t you going forward to see them?”
The man shook his head, curved his lips into a smile, and said, “No rush, let them pour out their hearts to each other first. There will be plenty of opportunities to meet later.”
He finally didn’t have to see his parents only through the system interface; he could see them openly now.
He was Jun Nianyan. After being stranded in the first world, he was brought to the quick transmigration world. Then he learned of his parents’ identities, growing up while watching his parents go through various worlds.
What he wanted to do was bring his parents back, and now he had finally achieved it.
The system dared not say more, nodding. Anyway, none of this family could be offended.
Jun Nianyan withdrew his gaze, turned, and left with a smile.
The system followed and left.
After they were gone, Lan Yan turned her head and looked at the empty doorway, murmuring, “Strange, I felt someone there just now, giving me a very familiar feeling.”
Jun Yelan followed her gaze to the doorway and, thinking of something, smiled. “Yan’er, I’ll take you to tour the quick transmigration world. Perhaps you’ll have a surprise.”
“Okay.” Lan Yan and Jun Yelan held hands, walking together towards the door, never to be separated again.
No matter how many times they forgot each other, they would always find their way back to each other, fall in love, for eternity.
