Lan Yan returned and flipped through the demon catalog left on the table by the original owner, searching for records about Jun Yelan.
"Found it." She opened to the last page and read the text, murmuring, "An ancient demon beast, and the most ferocious of them all. Its horns and wings are excellent materials for refining medicine, and its demon core can greatly enhance cultivation."
"But this demon beast is inherently brutal and never docile, so no cultivators have succeeded." She couldn't help but click her tongue. These cultivators were really fond of taking shortcuts.
The system's voice chimed in, "Host, perhaps you are that successful one."
Lan Yan closed the catalog and shook her head, "Easier said than done. You set this task for me, couldn't you have given me a different identity? Make it a bit more relaxed."
The system remained silent. The truth was, as Lan Yan grew stronger, the difficulty of the missions gradually increased. Otherwise, this world would not proceed as predicted and would risk collapse.
Receiving no response, Lan Yan lost the desire to complain to the system. She waved her hand, "Forget it, you can go offline. I'll think of a way." She could only understand simple things from the catalog; it seemed she still had to rely on herself to understand Jun Yelan.
"Alas, so difficult!"
As she sighed, a knock came at the door. "Senior Sister, are you in there? It's time for dinner. While taming the demon beast is important, your body is your own."
Lan Yan opened the door and saw Lin Qian at the entrance. She smiled, "Junior Brother, let's go to the kitchen." The original owner had high cultivation and didn't need to eat much, but she did!
"Okay, Senior Sister." Lin Qian smiled and walked towards the kitchen ahead. He had noticed that ever since his Senior Sister started taming the demon beast, she had locked herself in her room, so he found an excuse to call her out.
He had to admit, his Senior Sister had become much gentler lately, even smiling at him.
Lan Yan was focused on finding the kitchen. Seeing the plain vegetables inside, her eyes dimmed a little. "What? We're only eating this!"
Lin Qian nodded, "Senior Sister, we are cultivators. Eating these can dispel toxins from our bodies."
"Oh." Lan Yan's head drooped. She picked up a white radish and went to gnaw on it. Her peripheral vision caught sight of chickens and rabbits being kept in the backyard of the kitchen. She thought about what the demon catalog said about Jun Yelan's preferences.
She narrowed her eyes and went to find the kitchen manager, taking out spirit stones. "Manager, sell me a few chickens and rabbits. I need them for practicing with my magical artifacts. My beast taming is proving difficult, and I need to practice more."
Upon hearing her words, the manager agreed.
Lan Yan then walked towards the kitchen entrance, holding a radish in one hand and a cage of chickens and rabbits in the other.
Lin Qian at the entrance looked astonished. "Senior Sister, what are you doing?"
"Junior Brother, Senior Sister naturally has a clever use for them." Lan Yan raised an eyebrow, happily carrying the cages away.
Lin Qian was left standing there, completely bewildered. He scratched the back of his head, puzzled. "Strange, Senior Sister used to hate these smelly things the most. What is she up to now?"
Lan Yan naturally took them to Jun Yelan. Before reaching the cave entrance, she encountered Xiao Lingling, who had already gone in, with a group of people behind her.
She frowned and hid behind, following them in. She couldn't let Xiao Lingling discover that Jun Yelan's body had recovered even a little.
She took out a paper figurine from her怀 (huai - bosom/embrace), cast a spell on it, and let it fly inside. "Jun Yelan, you must see this."
Inside the cave, Jun Yelan heard the sound and looked up. He saw the paper figurine before him, followed by a group of cultivators.
He subtly hid the paper figurine in his palm and stared coldly at the people in front of him.
Xiao Lingling, leading the group, looked at Jun Yelan's blood-covered face and said disdainfully, "This kind of demon beast is not even worthy of my gaze. How unlucky. Hey, demon beast, you should have given your demon core to my father sooner."
Jun Yelan's fangs immediately showed, as if he were about to tear Xiao Lingling apart. Then, he let out a roar from his throat, carrying a deterrent power that directly scared Xiao Lingling back.
Xiao Lingling, having lost face in front of everyone, angrily said, "You all, attack!"
The disciples behind her said with difficulty, "Eldest Miss, there's an enchantment here, we can't get in. The Sect Master only asked you to check on his condition. This demon beast is untamable, let's leave."
Xiao Lingling was initially reluctant to leave, but seeing Jun Yelan's fierce look, she couldn't help but retreat further. She pointed at Jun Yelan and shouted, "You, you just wait. I will definitely find a way to deal with you sooner or later."
She turned and left in a furious huff.
Lan Yan, who had been hiding, took the opportunity to come out. Jun Yelan stared at her, and she awkwardly smiled, "Jun Yelan, I really didn't know they would come. By the time I arrived, it was too late."
Jun Yelan continued to stare at Lan Yan, making her afraid to move. He released the paper figurine from his hand and said, "Yours."
"It's mine." Lan Yan was relieved that Jun Yelan understood her intention. "I was so worried just now, afraid they would discover your body was recovering. If they had, we would be dead."
With her current abilities, she couldn't possibly rescue Jun Yelan. Not to mention anything else, she couldn't even break the enchantment before her.
Jun Yelan's eyes flickered slightly. He looked at Lan Yan's clear eyes, unable to discern whether she was telling the truth or lying. "You also saw the attitude of those cultivators. Why are you helping me?"
"Oh, didn't I tell you? Because you are powerful, I want to latch onto a strong backer." Lan Yan replied with a smile, her eyebrows lifting.
Jun Yelan couldn't help but shift his gaze. This person always said strange things, yet they held a hint of sincerity. He couldn't possibly believe cultivators, and he stopped looking at Lan Yan.
Lan Yan noticed Jun Yelan's awkwardness and curved her lips. It didn't matter, there was plenty of time. She took out the cages she had placed behind and said with a smile, "Look, these are all for you to eat."
She took out a chicken and placed it in front of the enchantment wall, then used her magic to make the chicken walk inside. Fortunately, the loophole set up by her master allowed anything other than people to enter.
This loophole was actually intended to throw in some tamed demon beasts to make them fight amongst themselves.
Jun Yelan looked at the chicken before him, confusion appearing in his eyes.
Lan Yan smiled, "What, you don't like it? I have rabbits too." She clearly remembered the demon catalog saying he ate these. She threw the rabbits in as well, but Jun Yelan remained unmoved.
Jun Yelan stared at Lan Yan. He had lived for so many years and had long stopped eating raw meat. Did he look like a beast that ate raw flesh and blood!
But Lan Yan thought Jun Yelan didn't want to eat. She muttered, "It seems you're still wary of me." She looked up and said, "Never mind, let me know when you want to eat. I'll leave first."
She picked up the remaining cages and walked out of the cave.
Jun Yelan watched the chickens and rabbits still moving around him. He activated his palm but then stopped himself, his gaze fixed on Lan Yan's receding back.
Since she had sent them, he would let them live a little longer.
