There was no picture, as the television station hadn't been built yet. When turned on, the entire screen was blue.
Jiang Ye shrugged and turned off the TV.
As he turned to go upstairs to rest, he saw someone waving outside the yard. Mask, sunglasses, and a beanie, their face completely covered, only revealing they were a woman.
Jiang Ye touched the pistol at his waist; it was still there. He pushed the door open and stepped out.
Approaching the yard entrance, he saw clearly. It wasn't a stranger, but the newly appointed director of Jiang Ye Star Television Station, Kang Hanliu.
"Please come in. What brings you here?" Jiang Ye asked.
"I have a few programs I'd like you to review," Tang Hanliu said. "And to ask for some funding."
"Programs decided this quickly?" Jiang Ye was surprised and led her inside.
"Before applying for the director position, I had already thought of several programs. It's not entirely accurate to say I thought of them; many are popular programs on other planets. We can modify them slightly and bring them over. I've interviewed some employees, including those applying for program producers and directors, and they also have their own program ideas," Tang Hanliu explained.
As the two entered the house, Tang Hanliu sat on the sofa. She was wearing a black sheer short skirt, and as she sat down, her fair and full legs were quite noticeable. Although Jiang Ye was lustful, he wasn't at the point of having thoughts about his subordinates. He merely glanced, then went to make black tea.
"Here, have some tea," Jiang Ye handed her a teacup. "Why are you still covering your face so thoroughly?"
"Quite a few people recognize me." Tang Hanliu removed her mask, sunglasses, and beanie, revealing a face that was both sexy and pure. "I have 50,000 followers on this planet's social media. Every day, I receive thousands of messages asking for dates or random pick-up lines, from people of all ages and genders. If I were to move around with my face uncovered, I'm afraid someone might follow me."
Jiang Ye looked at her deeply, thinking, "Good heavens, the director I recruited has the potential to be a star?"
However, she was indeed beautiful, with a good figure and face. Perhaps only Tian Rao could rival her.
Of course, compared to his girlfriend, she was far behind. Cen Yemeng was truly perfect in appearance. Love is blind, after all!
Tang Hanliu took a sip of black tea and took out a scroll-like object from her embrace. She unfurled it, and it turned out to be a super-sized tablet.
She extended her finger and tapped on the tablet, bringing up the saved documents.
"My notes are very brief. You might not understand them if you read them yourself, so I'll explain," Tang Hanliu said.
"Alright," Jiang Ye nodded.
"The first program, evening news and morning news, broadcast at seven in the morning and eight in the evening, covering the news of the entire planet. The format is quite old-fashioned, with two anchors reading scripts, interspersed with interview videos or photos," Tang Hanliu said.
"This is fine, it's a must-have," Jiang Ye nodded without hesitation.
"Regarding the morning and evening news, there's one more thing that requires your approval," Tang Hanliu said. "Whether to allow advertisers to insert commercials during the programs. These commercials can be hard ads or soft ads. Hard ads are direct short commercials, like 'Brand X is great.' Soft ads are hidden, packaged as news, such as a brand's promotional event starting, with crowds flocking to the scene, or a brand CEO launching a new strategy, with an interview featured in the news program."
"Absolutely no hard ads. These news programs are very official and serious. If a brand featured in an ad later has quality issues, it will affect the credibility of the television station, and people will curse my ancestors, Jiang Ye. 'Oh, you're an official media outlet, and you're advertising for a shady company? Have you no shame!' That's what they'll be shouting," Jiang Ye decisively rejected.
"As for soft ads, there are two conditions: first, the company must be reliable; second, it cannot be too obvious, at least not clearly identifiable as an advertisement," Jiang Ye said. "The programs need funding, so taking on some soft ads is acceptable. Moreover, our planet doesn't have many significant events right now, so ads can help fill the airtime."
"These two news programs will require approximately 5 million in startup funding to hire reporters and related staff."
"No problem," Jiang Ye readily agreed. "The first program is news, is the second one the weather forecast?"
"Weather forecast... we didn't plan to do it." Tang Hanliu blinked, her expression a little embarrassed. "Most television stations on various planets no longer do weather forecasts."
Jiang Ye was very surprised. "Isn't that an essential program?"
"Not anymore. It's been out of the mainstream for several years. This is because everyone can check the weather on their phones anytime and doesn't need to wait in front of the TV for a not-so-accurate weather forecast. Also, on developed planets with cities, the vast majority of the population lives in sealed buildings and doesn't care about the weather. Only agricultural and tourist areas are concerned," Tang Hanliu explained. "As viewership declined, weather forecasts were gradually phased out. If you really want to do it, there is a way."
"What?"
"Find a scantily clad, voluptuous beauty, and a tall, handsome, sunny young man. The two anchors will take turns reporting the weather, and the viewership can be boosted." Tang Hanliu smiled. "Regional television stations on Jiedian Star do it this way, and the results are good."
"Forget it," Jiang Ye said awkwardly. "It's not an entertainment program. Since no one watches the weather forecast, let's skip it."
"Because our planet doesn't yet have a sufficiently large audience base, nor a large enough pool of entertainment industry professionals, such as singers, comedians, crosstalk performers, talk show hosts, or acrobats, these are very few. Therefore, the television station's entertainment programs will temporarily avoid talent shows," Tang Hanliu said. "I have a batch of entertainment programs here. I'll introduce their formats and budget estimates, and you can make the final decision."
Jiang Ye nodded.
"The first program is a 'Large-Scale Midnight Show'," Tang Hanliu looked down at her tablet. "Find four pairs of beautiful men and women from different races, who will play as breakup couples and survive in the wild for a week. The main selling points are their looks, forbidden love, wilderness survival, witty banter, conflicts, and unexpected encounters. There will be dedicated scriptwriters to write scripts for them and reshoot key scenes. The budget for the first season is 7 million."
"Why is it called a 'Large-Scale Midnight Show'?" Jiang Ye was taken aback. "Where does the 'large-scale' aspect come in?"
"During their survival, these people will develop feelings for each other. Some will reconcile with their ex-partners, some will fall for others, and some will date multiple people. If the emotions develop, there will be some large-scale behaviors. This is one of the show's highlights, and the viewership will definitely be sky-high," Tang Hanliu smiled.
"Damn it, this won't do! We are a proper television station. Let's be a bit more conservative in style and avoid such low-taste programs," Jiang Ye shook his head and rejected it. "Next one."
