The beastman who delivered the message breathed a sigh of relief. Rett's mate was reasonable!
Rett was the designated driver; wherever Xin'er went, he followed.
Shu Yue could only caution, "Sister, don't catch a cold. It's very troublesome here as there's no medicine."
Shu Xin replied, "I'll be careful."
She felt a sense of urgency. After the rainy season, her first priority would be to find medicinal herbs. Without medicine, even the best medical skills would be useless, leaving her in the awkward position of a clever cook unable to prepare a meal without ingredients.
The animal skin raincoats had never truly dried. Once the rainy season ended, the raincoats would also need to be discarded.
Upon arriving at the witch doctor's cave, it was crowded. Sick females and cubs lay or stood, filling the cave, and the adjacent cave was also packed with people.
Their arrival drew the attention of those inside. The witch doctor first checked if they had brought the board. Upon seeing the familiar square, the witch doctor's expression softened considerably.
"Shu Xin, you also know medicine, don't you? Come and help me." The witch doctor's tone was commanding, lacking any hint of respect.
Shu Xin said nothing, took off her raincoat, placed it aside, and walked towards the witch doctor.
The unfamiliar beastmen inside were astonished by her beauty. When they heard she also knew medicine, their shock deepened.
Yi Yi's gaze swept over her subtly, her attention ultimately settling on the beastman. However, he hadn't looked at her once since they entered.
Shu Xin casually took a cub's wrist and felt its pulse. It wasn't a serious illness, just a common cold. However, without medicine, it would be difficult to treat.
"Witch doctor, where are the herbs?"
The witch doctor found her previous action strange but didn't question it, pointing to the wooden rack where herbs were stored in the cave. "The herbs are there. Do you know which ones to use?"
Shu Xin replied, "Let me take a look first."
Only two luminous pearls were emitting a green glow within the cave, and the light was still extremely dim for humans.
She took out the tablet and used it. The moment she turned on the tablet's light, the unfamiliar tribesmen were all shocked!
The beastmen who had just sought refuge widened their pupils due to the light, as if they had seen a treasure!
The witch doctor's tone grew somewhat angry, "Don't mess around!"
Shu Xin pretended not to hear, calling Rett over to hold the light for her while she picked up various herbs to examine.
As she looked, she asked, "Witch doctor, what medicine do you usually use to treat colds? I'll help you find the medicine."
The witch doctor's face darkened. She reprimanded, "If you don't know anything, don't cause trouble. Just help with the lighting!"
Shu Xin hadn't expected an answer from her; her question was merely to give herself more time to observe.
This was her first time encountering herbs here. She picked up an herb and brought it to her nose to smell. As soon as she caught the medicinal scent, it felt as if her soul resonated.
She hadn't touched them for two months and felt like something was missing. Now, that feeling had returned!
It was a pity that none of the herbs here were suitable. Most were for stopping bleeding, reducing inflammation, expelling parasites, and detoxification.
She could use acupuncture, but she feared they wouldn't accept it.
Yi Yi asked mockingly, "Which one do you think can be used?"
Shu Xin shook her head. "These herbs are not suitable. I can't do anything. Let Rett illuminate for you."
"Heh, so you were pretending to know." Yi Yi said it as if unintentionally.
But everyone in the cave could hear, and for a moment, their gazes towards Shu Xin became strange.
Rett frowned, wanting to say something in defense of his mate, but Shu Xin shook her head at him; it wasn't necessary.
Shu Xin ignored her mockery, and Yi Yi no longer had to perform solo. Her objective had been achieved.
It seemed like just a minor incident.
Shu Xin stood quietly, watching the witch doctor and her daughter treat the patients, observing their methods up close.
However, she was greatly disappointed. The treatment involved merely looking at the patients' mouths or flipping their eyelids. After the examination, there was no explanation. The witch doctor mysteriously walked into the deepest part of the cave and emerged with a bowl of brown water.
The witch doctor said, "Drink this and you'll be fine."
The sick females were filled with gratitude, "Thank you, witch doctor! Thank you, witch doctor!"
Yi Yi looked at Shu Xin with a triumphant and disdainful gaze, as if to say, "My mother has a way to cure illnesses, do you?"
Shu Xin lowered her head to the ground, as if admitting inferiority.
In reality, she couldn't bear to watch. She was certain that bowl of water contained wood ash. While not poisonous, it would have no effect on the illness.
She was inherently a detached person. The customs of the beastman continent were simple and honest, but also ignorant. They might not accept new things and would face various doubts.
Besides, these were people who were of no consequence to her, and their lives were not threatened. It was better to do less than more.
Rett held the tablet and remained silent. Wherever the witch doctor went, he followed, providing light. Everyone's gaze followed his hand. The people of the small tribe felt awe towards the tablet, believing it to be something bestowed by the Beast God!
The Warrior Tribe was indeed extraordinary!
They felt they had come to the right place. They had never heard of any tribe possessing such a magical item!
The Warrior Tribe must be favored by the Beast God!
Yi Yi looked at Rett's back, her eyes flashing with infatuation and something more complex, difficult to interpret.
After the treatment was finished, it was already two hours later. When the lighting was no longer needed, Rett immediately put away the tablet, refusing to waste even a sliver of power.
"Witch doctor, the tablet has no more energy. It can't be used tomorrow." As Rett turned off the light, he quietly pressed the power button.
The witch doctor did not believe him. "Wasn't it just working fine?"
Rett said no more, reached out and tapped the tablet, then touched it. It remained unresponsive.
"There's no sun during the rainy season, so the tablet has no energy and cannot be used."
The witch doctor: "..." Now they believed.
After all, they couldn't fathom that this thing could be turned on and off. They assumed no response meant no energy.
The witch doctor frowned, deeming it too impractical.
Others didn't understand either and listened intently, learning that this board required sunlight to glow.
"Witch doctor, after they've finished their medicine, Xin'er and I will be leaving." Rett indicated their departure.
The witch doctor had no reason to stop them and nodded. "You may return and rest."
Shu Xin's visit was merely a formality, but she did gain something; at least she had witnessed the witch doctor's treatment level.
On the way back, Rett asked, "Xin'er, were you tired from standing?"
"I'm alright."
After a pause, she asked, "Rett, do you think the medicine the witch doctor gave can cure colds?"
Rett hesitated at the question, answering truthfully, "I'm not sure. I haven't drunk it."
He was a dragon beast; even in the coldest part of winter, he had never caught a cold. The most he used was hemostatic grass; he hadn't used anything else.
Generally, this medicine was for females and cubs. Male beasts had strong bodies and rarely caught colds.
Shu Xin nodded slightly and asked again, "Did you smell that bowl of medicine?"
Rett had some recollection and nodded. "I smelled it. What's wrong?"
