The Trickster King

Chapter 30 The Esports Exhibition Match

The office door chimed with a steady rhythm.

"Mom, I have to go. I need to work now."

After hanging up, he called out, "Come in."

It was Lei Wenxiu and the assistant who had stood beside the Vice General Manager during the morning meeting.

"Director Xiao, there's a problem in the Cloud Map System Application Development Department. The Vice General Manager is also there and wants you to take a look."

Following the assistant, he arrived at the Product Design Department. As soon as he exited the elevator, he heard the sound of countless 'tap, tap, tap' of keyboards, typing at a rapid pace. Their eyes were fixed on the screens, engrossed in their work as 'coders.'

This was a new team, but the leader was an old subordinate of Wang Sucheng, a member of his 'inner circle,' so to speak.

Xiao Xun, on the other hand, was directly 'airdropped' in by Wang Sucheng. Therefore, the leader of this team was also named Zhang, Director Zhang, who greeted Xiao Xun with great enthusiasm.

Xiao Xun looked at Director Zhang, who had sat opposite him that morning, and asked, "Director Zhang, what happened?"

Pi Zhengtao pointed to the computer screen beside him, "We don't know which part of the code has a vulnerability. It was fine this morning, but now it's suddenly crashed. The complaint calls have been overwhelming."

Director Zhang was also very anxious, wiping sweat from his brow with a tissue, "The application is still in its trial operation phase. If such a major issue isn't resolved promptly, all the team's hard work over the past six months will be in vain."

Xiao Xun took out his phone and downloaded the application. As soon as he tapped it, his entire phone froze, only recovering after a forced restart.

The Vice General Manager leaned against the computer monitor and said, "Fortunately, it's just a trial run. If this happened after the official launch, everyone would uninstall the software, and competitors would seize the opportunity to attack us."

Xiao Xun pulled over a chair and sat down. "Where is the source code for this application?"

Director Zhang immediately called for the chief engineer responsible for the application. Upon hearing that the app had a problem, the chief engineer was already having people search for the error.

During lunch, he had heard from some colleagues in the technical department that the internal network had been infected with a virus, so he suspected the application was related to the virus.

"Director Xiao, I personally wrote the source code, so there's definitely no problem. I heard from your technical department that their computers were infected with a virus this morning for no reason. Could it be related to this matter?"

Facing the chief engineer's doubt, Xiao Xun didn't even look at him. "Whether a building is stable depends on its foundation. I'm not a celestial being; I can't see where the problem lies at a glance. Therefore, I can only investigate it piece by piece."

Xiao Xun's words were not wrong, but the chief engineer was still reluctant to open the source code.

In reality, Xiao Xun had the ability to view the underlying source code directly, but he didn't show off his skills, as it was someone else's turf.

He turned to the chief engineer and Director Zhang and said, "I'm here to solve the problem, not to have a debate with you. What you're saying is meaningless. You treasure this source code like a gem, but in my eyes, it's worthless."

The chief engineer's face turned very unpleasant. "What do you mean by that? Our team worked hard for half a year to get it to this point."

Seeing the rising tension, the Vice General Manager began to mediate, "Little Xiao! Can you perhaps check other areas first?"

"It's not impossible, but the workload is too great. It would be easier to start checking from the most basic parts."

The Vice General Manager looked at the chief engineer, his expression instantly becoming very serious, "I order you now, hand over the underlying source code."

Under the Vice General Manager's pressure, the chief engineer had no choice but to release the source code. Xiao Xun scrolled through it with the speed of reading ten lines at once, his right index finger rapidly spinning the mouse's middle scroll wheel.

The chief engineer thought to himself: You're scrolling so fast, can you see anything clearly?

Suddenly, Xiao Xun stopped. "I've found the problem."

Everyone's gaze converged on the screen in front of Xiao Xun. Xiao Xun dragged his mouse with the left button, showing the problematic code to the executives behind him.

"You see, this piece of code has no issues when run on a computer because its calculation rules don't conflict with the application. However, when applied to Cloud Map, it creates a logical conflict with the Cloud Map system itself, increasing the computational load and causing it to crash."

The chief engineer's face turned red. "How could I have not thought of this? I used to write computer programs, and I haven't used Cloud Map much."

With the problem solved, the Vice General Manager couldn't help but praise Xiao Xun. The chief engineer couldn't say anything harsh either, as he was the talent he had personally recruited from abroad with a high salary. He had a high academic degree and a good background, and might even become the company's general manager in the future, perhaps even the CEO.

While Xiao Xun indeed possessed the capability, he lacked connections, resources, and background. This director position was probably the peak of his career, unless he decided to start his own venture.

Therefore, despite Xiao Xun demonstrating his solid abilities, his status was still lower than the chief engineer's.

After dealing with the matter, Xiao Xun returned to his office. It was already close to quitting time, and another day had passed in a haze.

Chu Xiangning sent a message saying the competition would start at seven o'clock.

Glancing at the time, there wasn't enough time to eat at the company cafeteria. He shut down his computer, put away the files, and then took a taxi to the mall where Chu Xiangning had sent the location.

As soon as he arrived at the entrance of the mall, he heard frantic cheers and rhythmic music from inside. Since this was an officially organized event, there were many people.

Xiao Xun tried his best to protect his left arm from further injury as he pushed his way into the crowd.

A giant stage had been set up in the center of the mall, with five computers on each side. The contestants were busy adjusting their keyboards.

On the large screen in the middle of the stage, contestant profiles and photos were displayed. In the center, there was also a game character cosplay show.

Below the stage, game media and influencers were engaged in on-site interactions, making it very lively. Such a grand occasion hadn't been seen in a long time. Many old players had come out of admiration and were very excited.

Chu Xiangning was there as a guest participant in an exhibition match, so she had no competition results. This open competition was a popularity-building event for the two strongest teams in the city to compete for the regional championship.

Xiao Xun's position allowed him to see Chu Xiangning's profile. She was talking with the referees behind her and occasionally scanning the audience.

Xiao Xun raised his right hand and waved, unsure if Chu Xiangning could see him.

Many of the audience members were holding up light sticks with the contestants' names, shouting words of encouragement.

Coupled with the explosive music on site, it was very engaging.

The last time such a grand occasion occurred was at the finals of the 'Hundred Cities League' many years ago, where the crowd was even larger than it was now.

As the cosplay show concluded, the lights on the stage suddenly dimmed, and several spotlights focused on the host. His face was filled with a smile, and he made a brilliant entrance as the spotlight converged on him.

After the host recited a classic opening speech, he began introducing today's contestants and commentary guests.
