Bai Xi frowned slightly, looking at his eyes.
Every time she looked into Han Mo's eyes intently, she felt a sense of danger, as if there was something hidden within them, yet she couldn't fathom it.
Her gaze cooled slightly as she asked, "Dr. Han, do you recall the incident at the Sun family villa when Sun Lili went berserk?"
Sensing Bai Xi's probing, Han Mo lowered his head slightly, the reflection from his lenses obscuring his emotions. He replied indifferently, "Yes."
Bai Xi's gaze intensified with scrutiny. "As a neurosurgery specialist, Dr. Han, do you know why Sun Lili suddenly went berserk?"
During the interrogation by the dark department, Sun Lili herself didn't know why she had gone berserk. She only remembered looking at Han Mo before the episode.
Han Mo considered this carefully, his thin lips parting slightly. "Perhaps it was due to long-term medication, and upon being stimulated, she experienced some hallucinations."
Bai Xi narrowed her brows.
Indeed, she had found Sun Lili's sudden outburst suspicious, which was why she had arranged for a doctor from the dark department to examine her. During the examination, the doctor discovered that she had been consuming multiple types of soft drugs over a long period. Small doses of these substances were said to increase addiction to certain things.
These substances were reportedly known to cause hallucinations with long-term use... Perhaps it was just a coincidence that her condition flared up at that moment.
"I'm sorry."
She had intended to treat Han Mo to a meal as a thank you for his help. Yet, she felt as though she were interrogating a suspect, which seemed a bit excessive.
Han Mo gently pushed the metal frame of his glasses up with his finger. "Miss, you merely asked me a medical question. Why do you suddenly apologize?"
Bai Xi genuinely didn't know how to answer.
What could she say? That she suspected he had something to do with Sun Lili's episode?
The thought was both awkward and felt utterly absurd.
It was strange, really. She had already had Shen Mingxun investigate Han Mo. Han Mo's life was incredibly simple, his life experiences clear and devoid of any ambiguity. Why, then, did she persistently feel that he was somehow unusual?
Seeing Bai Xi's silence, Han Mo looked at her with gentle eyes and asked, "What would Miss like to eat?"
"I'm not picky," she replied casually. This was the city center, with countless options on the streets. She had never been particularly particular about food, as long as she was full. Moreover, having just harbored suspicions about him, it was only right to treat him well now. Thus, she looked at Han Mo with rare gentleness and asked, "What do you like to eat, Dr. Han?"
Han Mo hesitated for a moment. "How about hot pot?"
Bai Xi had initially thought that someone with Han Mo's demeanor would prefer more refined and elegant fare, like Western cuisine or Japanese dishes. She hadn't expected him to suggest hot pot.
However, she had always been adaptable when it came to food. Since he had suggested it, and she was the one treating, she naturally went along with her guest's preference. "Alright, then let's go have hot pot together."
The bustling commercial street remained vibrant even at night. After a short walk, the two found a decent-looking hot pot restaurant and entered.
The hot pot restaurant's decor wasn't particularly elegant, but it was lively and warm. A server eagerly approached them as Bai Xi and Han Mo entered. "Do you two have a reservation?"
Bai Xi glanced at the packed restaurant with a slight frown. "Do we need to wait then?"
The server, seeing the two exceptionally good-looking customers, genuinely wanted to accommodate them. Unfortunately, business was exceptionally good that day, and there were no available seats. "I'm sorry, there are no available seats at the moment. You might need to wait."
Bai Xi looked at Han Mo and then said calmly, "Then we'll wait."
Although she felt that any food would be fine, since Han Mo wanted to eat hot pot, waiting was acceptable. She had nothing pressing to do anyway.
Just then, the door to a private room suddenly opened. Inside sat several women with exquisite makeup and a few men. Bai Xi recognized one of them immediately – Tong Yao.
Tong Yao seemed slightly surprised upon seeing Bai Xi. "Xi'er... Dr. Han, what brings you here?"
Bai Xi smiled and nodded at Tong Yao. "Dr. Han just finished work, and I'm accompanying him for a meal."
Upon hearing this, Tong Yao's face broke into a somewhat ambiguous smile. "Oh, for a meal."
She had previously tried to introduce her brother to Xi'er, but Xi'er hadn't been interested. Looking at them now, it seemed Xi'er had become infatuated with Dr. Han's good looks, which was why she had dismissed her brother.
No, she had to investigate thoroughly and find out how these two got together, and who had "seduced" whom first!
With this thought, her mood, which had been somber all evening, perked up again. She stood up to leave. "Everyone, enjoy yourselves. I'm leaving now."
Earlier that day, she had received Bai Lian's birthday invitation from Zhou Wen, which had angered her immensely. She had immediately wanted to call Xi'er and go with her to confront that scumbag who was deliberately trying to provoke her.
But her brother had stopped her, telling her that Zhou Wen's intention was to make Xi'er jealous, and the best approach with such a person was to ignore them.
She had taken her brother's advice, but her hot temper wasn't something she could easily control.
Therefore, she could only find something else to occupy herself to suppress her anger. To avoid implicating Xi'er or causing her any displeasure, she had held back today and not sought her out, lest she say something out of emotional impulse.
This was why she had come to this inexplicable junior high reunion.
Honestly, in junior high, she had always been inseparable from Xi'er. After greeting a few acquaintances, she really didn't know what else to say. She was tired of maintaining a polite and dignified smile here.
A hint of regret flickered in the eyes of the others. "You're leaving already?"
"Don't go, it's a rare gathering. We can go sing later."
"Yeah, yeah."
"..."
The others tried to persuade her to stay, but they didn't force the issue. Just then, a woman sitting further away suddenly walked over, taking Tong Yao's hand with a bright smile. "Yao Yao, you've only come to this many years' reunion once. Xi'er isn't an outsider. She's brought her boyfriend to eat today, so let's all sit together and eat."
Tong Yao blinked, looking at the woman before her, and felt her scalp tingle.
They weren't that close, yet this woman affectionately called her "Yao Yao," giving her goosebumps, and even touched her hand.
The woman, holding Tong Yao's hand, looked at Bai Xi with a hint of pride and mockery in her eyes. "Xi'er, long time no see."
