Chapter 146: Awoke

Chapter 146: Awoke

It had been three days since that incident.

Kaelith remained in the castle, sharing meals with her son, spending time with him, and making up for the years they had lost.

These days have been the happiest for her. Hunting trips with him were thrilling, yes, but this was different. This was quieter, warmer. She was finally beginning to understand what it felt like to be a mother. And she liked it—loved it, even—though her maid often reminded her that her behavior wasn’t always what people expected from a mother toward her son.

"Will they wake up today?" Kaelith asked as she neatly arranged the files on her desk, a small smile tugging at her lips. She had a meeting later in the evening with the council ministers, each ruling different territories. The thought made her sigh.

A conference. Ugh.

Avalin, who had been standing silently in the corner, finally spoke. "Yes, my lady. According to the reports, the two young ladies should wake up any time now."

Kaelith hummed. "Make sure they get a proper, balanced meal. And if my son wants to spend time alone with his mates, don’t interfere."

The maid gave a short bow. "I understand, my queen."

The room grew quiet again, until Avalin hesitated, then asked softly, "My lady... are we really not going to do anything about them?"

Kaelith glanced at her. "You’re worried about Averis, aren’t you?"

Avalin lowered her head. "Lady Emberclad has been kneeling at the castle gates for three days now—without food, water, or rest. She refuses to let anyone treat her arm, and at this point, even our best healers can do nothing for her. And since no one from her faction has come, it seems clear Lady Averis has forbidden her servant from acting on her own."

Her voice grew tight with unease. "If this continues, people might accuse us of trying to kill the Emberclad heiress."

Kaelith’s expression hardened. She knew Avalin was right. Argon Emberclad adored his family, especially his grandchildren. If word spread that yet another heiress had died... not only would their alliance fall apart, but Argon might become her fiercest enemy.

Kaelith’s expression remained unchanged as she said, "Her fate now remains in my son’s hand. If he wants her dead, then we won’t interfere. And if he decides to save her, I would accept her as my daughter-in-law."

Avalin added, "My lady...at that time, you also sensed that young master was close to awakening, that’s why-"

"I know, Avalin. I know that Averis sensed it as well, yet she insulted him...she wanted to draw his dormant side. I know that but that doesn’t mean I would ignore her words and bring her inside. I would be betraying my son."

Avalin turned silent. She has already crossed her limits by trying to insist with her lady and try to make her change her decision.

Looking at the crestfallen expression on the maid’s face, Kaelith sighed before she took a parchment and started writing a letter.

A letter to Emberclad patriarch.

....

"Haaa~ I feel refreshed now." Peri stretched her arms after finishing a long bath.

The first thing the duo had done upon waking was ask about the incident that had shaken them awake—well, almost in Peri’s case—three days ago. After hearing the full story, both were left shocked, and not at all pleased.

Now, for the first time in what felt like months, they were heading to the dining hall for a proper meal.

"Hey, are you feeling okay?" Hades asked, noticing Luna staring off as they walked.

The silver-haired girl gave a small nod. "I’m just... shocked. Who could be crazy enough to challenge you, say such awful things, and then cry when you rejected her?"

Peri let out a snicker. "She probably thought she was being clever—throwing insults, waiting for him to praise her for ’motivating’ him or something."

Hades chuckled. "Forget her. She was just a spoiled girl who thought her devotion made her special."

He truly wasn’t thinking about Averis anymore. His attention stayed on the two girls walking beside him, watching their steps carefully. Even after waking, it would take some time before their strength fully returned.

They sat around the dining table, where a feast was laid out before them.

Peri was about to help herself when Hades suddenly said, "Let me serve you today."

The two ladies exchanged a quick glance before settling comfortably in their seats.

A soft smile curved Luna’s lips as she rested her chin on her palm. "With how considerate you’re being, I almost feel like I’m already carrying your baby."

Hades let out a dry chuckle. "If that makes you feel special, then I’ll serve you every day."

Peri grinned mischievously. "So... are you planning to help us bathe and get dressed too?"

Hades raised his brows. "I can... but if I do it regularly, we might end up neglecting our work."

Peri had only recently begun to catch the hidden meaning in such remarks, which explained why her face suddenly turned red.

"Pervert."

They chatted merrily as they ate.

It felt after so long that they were like this together.

Luna and Peri haven’t realized the changes their bodies have gone through. However, with time, they know they will be able to adjust accordingly.

Hades informed them about what happened these three days, including his time with his mother.

Luna was elated to hear that the duo got themselves some time to grow closer

After lunch, Luna asked, "Can we go out for a walk?"

Hades blinked, "But...you need rest, Luna."

The silver head pleaded, "Just for a while? I will feel better walking in the breeze for some time."

Hades had to yield before those pleading eyes.

He turned towards Peri and asked her, "What about you?"

"I will just go back and sleep." She was feeling lethargic after eating so much.

Hades nodded to her before the duo got up and advanced towards the open compound of the castle.

His hand found hers as naturally as it was for one to breath.

Their fingers interlaced as they walked in silence.

However, Hades noted that Luna was unusually silent and her steps weren’t moving without a motive.

She was moving toward a certain direction.

Towards the entrance.

"Luna..." he called out.

The silver head asked, "I just want to meet her. Can’t I?"

He stopped talking. He has never stopped her from doing what she wants.

Silently, they approached the entrance and found a sole figure kneeling there.
