Chapter 1640 Unrequited Love

After settling Shi Ran, Meng Jingwei and Zhao Wuyan sat in the ward with her, chatting and talking to comfort her nervous and uneasy heart.

"Where is Yuan Wei? How is he?"

Shi Ran was worried about Yuan Wei and his condition.

Meng Jingwei glanced at Zhao Wuyan, who was sitting beside her. After a moment of eye contact, she pursed her lips. "We've hired a nurse to take care of Yuan Wei. Don't worry."

"Is he very serious?" Shi Ran grabbed Meng Jingwei's hand. "Sister Wei, Yuan Wei was injured because of me. He absolutely cannot have any accidents."

If anything happened, Shi Ran would never forgive herself.

"He... he's fine. Don't overthink it." Meng Jingwei comforted Shi Ran, not wanting to add pressure on herself.

"Really?"

Perhaps not quite believing Meng Jingwei, Shi Ran looked at Shen Liannuo and asked again.

Shen Liannuo's brow twitched. She glanced at Meng Jingwei and nodded in agreement. "Yes, he's fine. Don't let your mind wander all day." She waved her hand, her attitude clearly dismissive and perfunctory.

Yet, it was precisely that demeanor that made Shi Ran believe her.

Just then, the ward door opened.

The people turned to look, and saw Tang Si walking in from outside.

His gaze was fixed on Shi Ran, lying on the hospital bed. His cold eyes suddenly softened and became deeply affectionate upon seeing her.

"Ran Bao'er, are you feeling better?"

Tang Si's voice was exceptionally gentle, as if he was afraid of startling Shi Ran if he spoke any louder.

"Liannuo, come out and make a call with me." Meng Jingwei found an excuse, took Shen Liannuo's hand, and walked out of the ward, leaving the two of them some space.

With a click, the room door closed.

Only Tang Si and Shi Ran were left in the spacious ward.

Tang Si was dressed in a suit, with a white shirt underneath and a black tie around his neck. His collar was slightly disheveled, and his tie was askew, but in that disheveled state, he exuded a devilishly handsome and unrestrained charm.

Shi Ran looked up, her gaze meeting Tang Si's unexpectedly.

Thump, thump, thump!

Shi Ran's heart raced uncontrollably. She bit her lip and quickly turned her face away, not wanting to look at him anymore.

She even closed her eyes in the end.

"Ran..."

Tang Si's thin lips parted, calling her name. Seeing that she was always avoiding him, Tang Si's heart sank inexplicably, and a dull ache spread through his chest.

He pulled over the companion chair, sat on it where Meng Jingwei had been, and casually tossed his coat onto the foot of the bed.

Tang Si leaned back in the companion chair lazily, his gaze fixed on Shi Ran, and remained silent.

Silence.

The ward was exceptionally quiet. Apart from the occasional sounds from outside, the ward was so quiet that one could almost hear their breathing.

After an unknown amount of time, Shi Ran, who had been pretending to sleep, finally couldn't hold on. She turned her head to look at Tang Si.

Just a casual glance from the corner of her eye, and she met Tang Si's gaze.

At that moment, Shi Ran felt awkward and heartbroken.

A sense of unrequited love, of loving deeply but not daring to love, intertwined and tangled, making her feel incredibly conflicted and tormented.

"Are you planning to ignore me forever?"

Tang Si asked.

Shi Ran held the blanket, her luminous, watery eyes looking at the ceiling, as if contemplating how to answer his question.

"I... I..." Shi Ran didn't know what to say.

"Come back to the Tang family with me."

Seeing her remain silent for a long time, Tang Si took the initiative to speak.

The words struck Shi Ran like a bolt of lightning, startling her into looking at him sharply, her pupils widening in disbelief.
