Meng Jingwei’s lips curled. She walked to the railing on the second floor, looking down at the hall below. The luxurious house dazzled her eyes, but it did not make her lose her senses.
Her willow-like eyebrows furrowed, and a flush of anger spread across her fair face, as white as fine mutton-fat jade. She glared fiercely at Qing Muye. “Qing Muye, are you done? Don’t think that just because you’re Grandma’s grandson, I’ll tolerate you endlessly! I admit you’re very rich, but that doesn’t mean I’ll accept any of your handouts. Do you think a ‘fairy tale castle’ can convince me to stay? Unfortunately, I’m no pampered little princess, nor am I a Cinderella dreaming of climbing onto a prince’s branch!”
Meng Jingwei’s temper flared. “I didn’t pursue the issue of the sleeping pills, but I’m giving you one last chance. Don’t push your luck!”
With that, she let out a cold snort and left.
Regardless of whether Qing Muye liked her or not, it was no excuse for him to despicably use sleeping pills on her and then have ‘relations’ with her.
Although Meng Jingwei constantly called Qing Muye a ‘scumbag’, she didn’t realize that with her fiery temper, if any other man dared to use ‘sleeping pills’ on her, she would retaliate at all costs.
Only with Qing Muye was it different.
Perhaps it was because her first time was with him, and he hadn’t been with any other woman; or perhaps, she was always particularly different towards him.
It was just that some underlying feelings had yet to be discovered.
“You stop right there!”
Qing Muye’s temples throbbed with anger.
Damn it, could this matter never be over?
He let out a soft exclamation, grabbing Meng Jingwei’s wrist. “What do I have to do to prove myself to you?”
Qing Muye was not a particularly patient person, but he had asked Meng Jingwei this question no less than three to five times.
It was almost driving him mad.
“Let go!”
Meng Jingwei shook off his hand. “Stay away from me. That’s the best proof.”
Qing Muye: “……”
The conversation ended.
Meng Jingwei turned and went downstairs, leaving with a flourish.
For a girl who was not materialistic, a residence as luxurious as a fairy tale castle was merely proof of others’ wealth, a reflection of their status, and had nothing to do with her.
Helpless, Qing Muye walked down from upstairs. He stood at the entrance of the villa, watching the woman get into her car and speed away. He took a deep breath and punched a pillar beside the steps.
For the first time in his life, he understood how difficult it was to gain someone’s trust.
It was as if Meng Jingwei’s first impression of him was her final judgment on his character; no matter how much he did afterward, it couldn’t change her opinion of him.
…
After leaving the villa, Meng Jingwei returned to the city center.
In the afternoon, with the help of a real estate agent, she rented a studio apartment near the ‘Encounter’ Wedding Company.
The apartment was move-in ready, so she moved in directly.
This day, as it was nearing noon, she drove out, intending to go to the supermarket to buy some daily necessities and cook at home.
Her car was parked in the lot opposite Huayi Mini-Supermarket. As she was picking up her bag to go to the supermarket, she saw a familiar figure appear.
Meng Jingwei, wearing sunglasses, suddenly froze. She took off her sunglasses and looked. To her surprise, the person was none other than… Shu Yao!
Ever since Shu Yao had brought mercenaries to rescue her after he was taken away by Qing Muye’s men on the wedding day, she knew that Shu Yao had intentionally approached her.
To this day, she still didn’t know how Shu Yao had found out her location that day.
Meng Jingwei followed, wanting to tail Shu Yao and see who she interacted with daily.
Seeing her enter a Maple Leaf Coffee House nearby, she put on her sunglasses and followed.
Maintaining a certain distance, she tracked her from the first floor to the second.
Standing at the top of the stairs on the second floor, Meng Jingwei looked around. In a corner booth on the right, she saw Shu Yao.
And opposite Shu Yao sat a couple.
That couple was the two people Meng Jingwei knew best – Li Fu’an and Zhao Ruolan!
She had unexpectedly encountered Shu Yao and wanted to follow her to investigate, but instead, she saw the three of them meeting for the first time.
Even though Li Fu’an was a businessman, the three of them chose a secluded location, a moderately priced coffee shop, and sat in a corner booth in the hall, not a private room for business talks.
Moreover, Li Fu’an normally brought a secretary for business meetings, but beside him was Zhao Ruolan, dressed plainly and low-key.
All these signs could only prove one thing: they were not discussing business at all.
“Excuse me, please move. You’re blocking my way.”
A man stood behind Meng Jingwei and spoke to her.
This sentence startled Meng Jingwei and also attracted the attention of Li Fu’an nearby. Then, Zhao Ruolan and Shu Yao both looked over following his gaze.
When Shu Yao saw Meng Jingwei appear, her pupils constricted, and her face turned a few shades paler.
She instinctively glanced back at Li Fu’an and his wife, then quickly ran to Meng Jingwei. “Jingwei, what are you doing here? What a coincidence! I was just coming with Mr. Li to discuss some business. Do you want to come and have something?”
Meng Jingwei took off her sunglasses, raised her eyebrows at Shu Yao, and her red lips curved into a smile. “Is that so? What business does a makeup company like yours have with the Li family?”
She hadn’t heard that the Li family was involved in the makeup industry.
As the two were talking, Li Fu’an and Zhao Ruolan walked over. Li Fu’an had a dark expression. “President Shu, I didn’t expect you to be friends with Meng Jingwei?”
“Hmph, talking about cooperation with us and then calling Meng Jingwei over, what does that mean?” Zhao Ruolan glared at her. “My daughter’s marriage was ruined by her, and we haven’t settled that score yet. Since you’re her friend, then this business deal is off!”
“Hey? Hello, Mr. Li, Madam Li, please listen to me.”
Shu Yao panicked, reaching out to pull Zhao Ruolan, but she shook her off. “From today onwards, my Li family will never cooperate with your Shu Yao Company. Humph, darling, let’s go!”
Zhao Ruolan pulled Li Fu’an away. As she brushed past Meng Jingwei, Li Fu’an paused, glared at Meng Jingwei, pointed at her, and his dark, square face contorted with rage, his flesh trembling. He gritted his teeth and said, “You ruined Yun’er, and I, Li Fu’an, will never let you have it easy. Just you wait!”
Being his daughter as well, Meng Jingwei never understood why the Li family hated her so much.
They wanted to kill her all the time.
Meng Jingwei stood proudly, her cool eyes swept over, and she let out a scoff. “I’ll wait.”
With that, they both flicked their hands and left.
Their arrogant demeanor made Meng Jingwei feel disgusted.
Instead, this situation made her doubt herself. What was Shu Yao’s relationship with the Li family, or… was she really just here to discuss business?
Her mind was in a mess; she couldn’t figure it out.
“Sigh, honestly, I just don’t understand. You and Li Yun’er are sisters, so why do her parents dislike you so much? It’s inexplicable!”
Shu Yao lifted her hair, put a hand on her hip, and sighed heavily, looking quite helpless.
