A man sat beside him, picked up a glass of red wine, and began to drink.
Time ticked by, and the two savored their red wine. Meng Jingwei watched a variety show, seeming to have a low threshold for laughter. When she was in a good mood, she would even pat Qing Muyue’s shoulder, “Look at them, haha, they’re hilarious, that guy is too stupid.”
“Oh my, I can’t, I can’t, this is too funny, my stomach hurts from laughing.”
“Ice needs to be kept warm. Wrapping ice in a quilt will melt the ice. My god, doesn’t he have any common sense? This is too funny, too cute.”
In the vast apartment, when Qing Muyue was alone, it was very quiet, so quiet that it felt devoid of life. But with Meng Jingwei’s presence, Qing Muyue felt an unprecedented feeling.
It felt like home, filled with laughter and joy, allowing him to immerse himself in it and forget the usual silence and coldness.
He watched Meng Jingwei, who was laughing like a child. She seemed to have let down her guard around him, and her happiness was infectious, making him feel happy both physically and mentally.
After an unknown amount of time, Meng Jingwei finally fell asleep, dozing on the sofa.
She looked like a naive little girl who had fallen asleep on the sofa out of tiredness, looking very cute.
Qing Muyue raised his wine glass, downed the wine in one gulp, put down the wine glass, and walked over. He reached out, intending to gently brush her cheek, but remembering her defensiveness in the elevator earlier, he ultimately just picked her up and took her to the second bedroom.
He leaned down and gently placed her on the soft bed. However, before he could straighten up, Meng Jingwei grabbed his neck and held him still.
Qing Muyue frowned and instinctively tried to move again. As a result, Meng Jingwei held him tightly and mumbled, “Mmm… so annoying, don’t move.”
He couldn’t bear to push her away, so he lay down beside her.
At that moment, the soft bed dipped slightly. Meng Jingwei, feeling someone beside her, mistook him for her large huggable bear at home and pressed her leg against him.
She rubbed her face against Qing Muyue’s chest, found a comfortable position, and then fell into a deep sleep.
She slept soundly, but it was torment for Qing Muyue.
Finally, he couldn’t stand it any longer and pushed Meng Jingwei away, wanting to leave.
Meng Jingwei was accustomed to being alone, so she liked to have a large stuffed toy on her bed. When she slept, she would hug the toy and rest her leg on it for the most comfortable sleep.
Thus, in her sleep, she had mistaken Qing Muyue for a plush toy.
Qing Muyue, who felt as if he was on fire, looked at Meng Jingwei and couldn’t help but murmur, “What a tormenting little sprite.”
This kind of ‘torture’ was ultimately unbearable for Qing Muyue. He had no choice but to ruthlessly push her away and escape her bedroom in disarray.
He was afraid that if he lingered any longer, he would truly lose control and forcefully take her.
Meng Jingwei slept soundly and woke up at precisely seven o’clock the next morning.
She yawned, stretched her limbs in bed, and opened her eyes to survey her surroundings. She realized she was in the bedroom.
She was stunned for a moment, then immediately felt herself all over, confirming that everything was as it should be and there were no signs of being violated by that scoundrel Qing Muyue. Her worried heart finally settled.
“It seems that this jerk is really afraid of Grandma.”
She couldn’t help but chuckle, finally feeling at ease about Qing Muyue.
After getting up, she washed up and went to the living room, only to find it empty.
Thinking Qing Muyue was still asleep, she didn’t disturb him and rummaged through the cabinets and refrigerator for something to eat, but found nothing.
She changed her clothes and went downstairs. After eating something, as she was preparing to leave, she remembered Qing Muyue and decided to bring him some hot dry noodles and soy milk.
She returned to the apartment and walked to Qing Muyue’s room, knocking on the door. “Hey, get up.”
She knocked on the door but received no response. Meng Jingwei pushed the door open and saw that the room was empty.
She scratched her head. “Where is he?”
“Looking for me?”
Suddenly, a voice rang out from behind her, startling her unexpectedly.
She turned around and glared at Qing Muyue. “Are you trying to die? Don’t you know that startling people can kill them?”
She patted her chest, thoroughly frightened.
“If you have a clear conscience, you won’t fear a ghost knocking at your door.”
The man was dressed in a black shirt and trousers, his short hair slicked back immaculately. His collar was slightly open, and his breathtakingly handsome face held a faint smile. He unbuttoned his left cuff with his right hand and rolled up his sleeves to his elbows.
It was a seemingly casual gesture, but performed by Qing Muyue, it exuded a sense of nobility and aloofness.
Coupled with his perfect proportions, he was like a domineering CEO stepping out of a two-dimensional comic, his every move possessing the demeanor of a supermodel.
Even though Meng Jingwei didn’t like Qing Muyue, and even detested the scoundrel, she couldn’t help but be momentarily captivated by him.
“With such a large physique, you don’t make any noise when you walk? Did you float over? Hmph.”
She scoffed and pointed to the dining area. “I just went down to have breakfast and brought you some.”
With that, she walked towards the study. “Can I use your computer? Can I download games?”
“Mhm.”
Qing Muyue responded.
“Then I’ll go download some games and play.”
Perhaps due to the repeated failure of her plans, Meng Jingwei had lost her initial enthusiasm and seemed somewhat dispirited, no longer as diligent about going to work.
She walked into the study, turned on Qing Muyue’s computer, and began downloading games.
Qing Muyue, meanwhile, went to the dining area and looked at the box of noodles on the table. The noodles, coated in sauce, had clumped together. Beside them was a disposable cup with a sealed lid.
Qing Muyue frowned at the tilted plastic cup, on which a picture of a cartoon bear was printed on the seal.
He took out a straw from the plastic bag, broke the seal, and took a sip. He had expected it to be impure milk, but instead, it tasted like soy milk, yet with a much stronger sweetness.
He frowned, staring at the liquid in his hand, lost in thought.
“What are you looking at?”
Since downloading large games took a while, Meng Jingwei came out for a break and saw Qing Muyue staring blankly at a cup of soy milk.
“What is this?”
Qing Muyue asked.
“Soy milk, it’s 2 yuan a cup.”
“Are you sure this isn’t sugar water?”
The packaging was poor, but the taste was even worse, with only a hint of soybean flavor and mostly sugar water.
“What do you mean? With the rising prices year after year, soy milk isn’t as pure as it used to be,” she said helplessly.
Qing Muyue nodded thoughtfully and then continued eating the noodles. He picked up a mouthful of dry noodles and took a bite, finding them difficult to swallow. “Do you always eat such unappetizing food?”
“Pfft…”
