Chapter 199 A Car Accident, Life Hanging by a Thread

Outside the Civil Affairs Bureau, Su Ding glanced at her watch.

It was exactly eight o'clock.

She scanned her surroundings, seeing only couples either entering hand in hand with affection or leaving with palpable animosity.

There was no sign of Jin Ye.

A sense of vexation crept into her heart. Would this divorce even happen?

If he didn't show up in another ten minutes, she would just leave.

In the car, not far away.

Jin Ye stared intently at her every move, his expression a terrifying shade of gloom.

It seemed she was determined to divorce him!

Was she that eager to be with Jiang Chu?

The thought fueled his anger, making the woman's silhouette appear even more detestable.

He immediately stepped on the accelerator and drove away.

The wind buffeted his face through the open car window. The wound from last night still ached.

Jin Ye clenched his fists in fury. No matter what, he would never let her have it easy! If she wanted to be with another man, she'd have to be thoroughly discarded by him first!

Just then, his phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, which displayed "Su Ding."

His heart tightened, his emotions instantly becoming fraught.

What did it mean for her to call him proactively? Was she urging him to come and finalize the divorce?

Or was it an apology?

Though he knew an apology was impossible, such thoughts kept surfacing in his mind.

For a moment, his mood was a complex swirl.

He felt a pang of urgency, but hadn't figured out what to say, gripping his phone tightly.

Suddenly, the car was violently impacted. A vehicle ahead veered across lanes recklessly, colliding with several cars in front.

When it hit Jin Ye's car, the rear end exploded!

Caught off guard, the car's windshield shattered. The immense force of the impact sent Jin Ye's head reeling, and he lost consciousness.

His phone fell to the ground, its screen going dark.

...

"Quick! The patient urgently needs a blood transfusion! Contact the family immediately!"

"The blood type is Rh-negative. The hospital doesn't have any in stock, nor do the nearby hospitals!"

Chaos reigned in the hospital as Zhao Qin and Shao Lin were soon summoned.

"Rh-negative blood. Only Xiao Xi in the family has it," Zhao Qin fretted, on the verge of tears. "But Xiao Xi isn't fully recovered yet. What can we do?"

Upon hearing the blood type, Shao Lin’s heart began to race.

She hadn't expected Jin Ye to be Rh-negative too. Besides Xiao Xi, the only other person with the same blood type was Su Ding.

Earlier, she had used Su Ding's blood, falsely claiming it was her own, to save Xiao Xi.

Now, the only candidate was her.

What to do, what to do? She absolutely couldn't let this be exposed!

She cried out anxiously, "Contact other hospitals again! How can there be none? Jiangcheng is so big; no blood type should be scarce."

She distinctly remembered that before she had drawn Su Ding's blood, the hospital had sufficient stock of the same blood type for Xiao Xi's transfusion.

How could there be none now!

The nurse said anxiously, "The patient's condition is critical. The nearest hospitals are out. We've contacted other hospitals to send supplies, but we fear it will delay treatment! If any of you have the same blood type, it would significantly increase his chances of survival!"

"I don't care! You must save him!" Shao Lin yelled, her frustration erupting.

Her panic grew. She didn't want Jin Ye to die; they had just been together last night.

The happiness she had waited six years for.

She couldn't let it all be in vain. She was so anxious she felt like crying.

"Linlin! Yes! Linlin!"

Zhao Qin, who had been stunned by the dreadful news, suddenly remembered that Shao Lin had donated blood for Xiao Xi. That meant she could donate to her son as well!

She grabbed Shao Lin and urged her, "Linlin, you're Rh-negative, aren't you? You saved him by giving Xiao Xi blood before. Now you absolutely must save Xiao Ye!"

Shao Lin, pushed by her, grew even more flustered. "I... I..."

Her mind raced. "The doctor said I donated too much blood and am anemic. I, I..."

"Linlin! Saving a life is the priority!"

Zhao Qin clutched Shao Lin's hand like a vise, tears welling in her eyes, pleading, "Please, Linlin, save my son. He's your future husband. I know you wouldn't stand by and watch him get hurt. Please go!"

Shao Lin's expression grew even more distressed. She couldn't possibly say that donating her blood would be disastrous!

But in this situation, if she refused, it would arouse suspicion.

Given Zhao Qin's temperament, it wasn't impossible for her to be forced into a transfusion. What should she do!

"Alright, Auntie, I'll go right now."

Shao Lin agreed hastily and then left with the doctor.

On the way, she wanted to escape, but Jin family bodyguards kept a tight watch on her. There was no possibility of escape.

In the emergency room.

Jin Ye lay on the bed, tubes inserted everywhere, his body covered in blood.

Shao Lin was wheeled in and placed on the adjacent bed. Breathing in the smell of disinfectant, her heart pounded even harder.

What would happen if blood of a different type was transfused?

She prayed that the hospital with the blood packs would arrive quickly, allowing her to escape this ordeal.

But by the time the needle was inserted into her arm, it had not yet arrived.

"Doctor!"

Shao Lin cried out in panic. The doctor looked over. "Don't be nervous. We will do our best to save him."

With that, he began operating the blood extraction equipment.

Bright red blood slowly flowed through the transparent tube towards Jin Ye.

Shao Lin's heart was more tense than ever before.

Her whole body tensed as she monitored Jin Ye's condition. As expected, something had gone wrong!

"It's not good! Hemolysis is occurring!"

"Blood type mismatch! Disconnect it quickly, disconnect it! The patient is showing signs of distress!"
