Chapter 140 The Liu Family's Predicament

Yan Shouyi spent the night on the sofa in Lin Zitong’s room.

The next morning, Lin Zitong was in a hurry to return to school for classes, so she changed her clothes and left for school.

Yan Shouyi slept leisurely until eleven in the morning before leaving the hotel with Luo Ning.

Because he was used to sleeping on a hard bed, Yan Shouyi’s back ached from sleeping on the sofa last night. As soon as they left the hotel, he started complaining about discomfort. Luo Ning mocked him upon hearing this:

“Your movements last night were so loud, I thought you had a great body. It seems that even in the body of a Heavenly Fiend Corpse Puppet, some people’s abilities are still lacking.”

This was a matter of male pride, and Yan Shouyi had to vindicate himself: “Practice is the sole criterion for testing truth. If you haven’t experienced it, how can you say I’m not capable?”

Luo Ning was stunned by Yan Shouyi’s retort. She had thought Yan Shouyi was a dullard, but who would have thought that when it came to suggestive talk, he was much more brazen than her.

In this round, Yan Shouyi was victorious.

Yan Shouyi kept complaining about his aching back. Luo Ning offered to give him a massage, but Yan Shouyi, recalling her past massage techniques which were meant for moving the joints of corpses, chose to refuse.

In fact, with Luo Ning’s short hair, Yan Shouyi often treated her like a man, so his manner of speaking to her was different from how he spoke to Lin Zitong.

When they arrived at the school entrance, Long Feicheng had not yet returned. Yan Shouyi assumed Long Feicheng was being lazy and still sleeping at Old Jin’s place. However, he didn’t know that Long Feicheng had been unable to get out of bed for days due to Yin energy entering his body.

With Long Feicheng absent, Yan Shouyi had to stand guard himself.

Luo Ning was utterly perplexed by this.

Yan Shouyi, the esteemed descendant of Lu Ban, was not doing anything earth-shattering but instead working as a mere security guard at Shanghang Art School.

What was he thinking?

In the past, Luo Ning had always followed Zhong Qi, doing whatever he did. Now that Zhong Qi was dead, Luo Ning felt somewhat lost.

She didn’t know where to go.

Although she said she would follow Yan Shouyi, she couldn’t possibly follow his every move, from eating and drinking to relieving himself, could she?

For instance, now, Yan Shouyi was on duty as a security guard at the school, and Luo Ning was following him, bored to death.

Just as she was feeling extremely bored, a car drove into the school. Yan Shouyi went to open the gate, but the person who leaned out of the car made Luo Ning extremely shocked.

“Principal Zhong.”

Yan Shouyi greeted him.

Principal Zhong got out of the car directly and exchanged a few pleasantries with Yan Shouyi, asking if he was tired and if he wanted to rest in the security office.

Yan Shouyi responded to Principal Zhong’s polite words while carefully observing him.

This Principal Zhong looked exactly like Zhong Qi.

Oh, right, their names were also the same.

If Yan Shouyi hadn’t witnessed Zhong Qi’s death with his own eyes yesterday, he might have truly believed that Zhong Qi had been resurrected.

Principal Zhong seemed very apprehensive of Yan Shouyi, as if he feared that Yan Shouyi would bring him down just like he had done to another principal.

After a brief chat, Principal Zhong drove his car into the school to attend to his work.

As soon as he left, Luo Ning appeared behind Yan Shouyi, saying in disbelief, “That person…”

“His name is also Zhong Qi, and he looks exactly like your uncle. But he is the newly appointed principal of our Shanghang Art School,” Yan Shouyi replied. “I also find it very perplexing. What is the relationship between them?”

If Principal Zhong Qi and the corpse-herding Zhong Qi knew each other, then it was impossible for Principal Zhong Qi to have had no reaction yesterday when the corpse-herding Zhong Qi died.

But there couldn’t possibly be such a coincidence – people who looked alike, even having the same name.

“Why don’t you follow him and investigate?” Yan Shouyi asked.

This seemed to give Luo Ning some inspiration, and she nodded silently.

Killing Zhong Qi yesterday had left a void in Luo Ning’s heart, as he was her only relative in this world.

Therefore, Luo Ning was eager to figure out what was going on with this Principal Zhong Qi.

Thus, Luo Ning was actually sent away by Yan Shouyi.

Watching Luo Ning’s retreating back, Yan Shouyi breathed a sigh of relief.

At least he had found something for this iron lady to do. If she had followed him twenty-four hours a day, Lin Zitong might not have been able to concentrate on her studies. With two tag-alongs, he wouldn’t be able to go anywhere.

After sending Luo Ning away, Yan Shouyi steadied himself in the guard post.

After a moment of thought, he called the new security guard, Da Fei, to take over his shift, changed his clothes back at the dormitory, and decided to go to the Liu family in Guling as soon as possible.

He hadn’t kept Liu Yiren’s contact information, so he couldn’t ask the Liu family to pick him up at the foot of the mountain. He could only obediently take the bus up the mountain.

When he arrived at the familiar bus stop, it was exactly two o’clock in the afternoon. The weather in the mountains was unpredictable. The sky was clear and bright at the foot of the mountain, but as soon as Yan Shouyi got off the bus, the sky was covered with dark clouds, and it immediately started to rain cats and dogs.

Yan Shouyi, drenched in the rain, couldn’t help but frown. He noticed that the sky today was too ominous, as if it foreshadowed some misfortune.

So he stood by the roadside, took out his compass, and used the Xiao Liu Ren divination technique to cast a hexagram for himself.

An inauspicious hexagram.

Boom!

Lightning flashed and thunder roared above his head, as if the lightning might strike Yan Shouyi at any moment.

“How could it be an inauspicious hexagram… What happened in Guling?”

As Yan Shouyi was contemplating, the familiar sound of a motorcycle engine echoed on the road again.

The familiar red motorcycle sped past. The rider glanced at Yan Shouyi, and was startled, almost losing control of the handlebars.

After braking, the rider quickly turned around and came to Yan Shouyi’s front.

He took off his helmet, and Yan Shouyi recognized him. Wasn’t this Sun Zhipeng, whom he had thoroughly humiliated last time?

Did this brat dare to approach him to cause trouble after seeing him?

Yan Shouyi expected Sun Zhipeng to pick a fight with him again, but who knew that upon seeing Yan Shouyi, Sun Zhipeng acted as if he had met a savior:

“Great God! You’re finally here!”

Yan Shouyi was taken aback. What was going on?

Sun Zhipeng quickly took out a helmet and handed it to Yan Shouyi, then said, “Get on first, I’ll take you to Zuihualv. I’ll explain everything on the way!”

Judging by Sun Zhipeng’s demeanor, something had indeed happened, and the young man was very anxious.

So Yan Shouyi put on the helmet, got on Sun Zhipeng’s motorcycle, and Sun Zhipeng, twisting the throttle to the max, sped off with Yan Shouyi along the road.

“What happened?” Yan Shouyi asked, frowning.

Fearing that Yan Shouyi couldn’t hear him, Sun Zhipeng shouted, “Something has happened to the Liu family!”

“Continue.”

“Last time you came, didn’t you capture a small mountain god named Zhu Shanzao? You boasted then that if any real mountain god was displeased, they should come to you. Well, a few days after you left, the mountain god’s revenge arrived! Everyone surnamed Liu fell ill overnight, their homes were plagued by evil spirits, and strange incidents occurred repeatedly, causing unrest in Zuihualv as well! Several times I wanted to visit Yiren, but my father stopped me. Everyone believes that Liu Yiren angered the mountain god, and anyone who dares to help them will be the first to be targeted, and the mountain god will take revenge on us all!”

Sun Zhipeng paused and then added, “Fortunately, I met you. I’ll take you to the Liu family now. You must be capable of dealing with that mountain god, otherwise, the Liu family and Yiren will truly be finished this time!”

After hearing Sun Zhipeng’s words, Yan Shouyi realized the seriousness of the situation.

He secretly regretted not leaving Liu Yiren’s contact information, otherwise, they could have come to him immediately if something happened.

But he also found it strange. Logically, with Liu Jingkang as the Liu family’s backer, a mere mountain god shouldn’t dare to do anything to the Liu family, let alone for such a small matter as Zhu Shanzao.

This was too unreasonable.

Could it be that the one attacking the Liu family wasn’t the mountain god?

But if not the mountain god, then who could it be…
