In the afternoon, outside the Capital Square.
After getting out of the car, Su Yue saw several police officers.
Among them was the one she was most familiar with.
"Officer Chen!" Bai Li Qing called out to him.
The man looked over, nodded slightly, his demeanor calm and unfettered.
Still not looking at her.
Su Yue sighed inwardly and followed Bai Li Qing over.
"This is Section Chief Zhao. He's in charge of this area. He'll show you around," Chen Ziming introduced the police officer beside him.
Everyone introduced themselves and exchanged greetings.
Seeing that they had met, Chen Ziming did not linger but went to a nearby police booth.
Su Yue watched his departing back.
On this September afternoon, the sun was bright, shining on him, warm and gentle.
Yet, he looked so lonely and desolate.
Her nose suddenly stung, but the next second she adjusted her state and listened to the introduction with Bai Li Qing.
After the general introduction of the environment, Section Chief Zhao led them to the police booth to rest.
The police booth was quite spacious, with a conference table and a small bed further inside.
As soon as they entered, they saw Chen Ziming talking to another police officer. Seeing them come in, his gaze swept over.
"Finished understanding?" he asked.
But he didn't look at Su Yue, instead addressing Bai Li Qing.
"Yes, Section Chief Zhao's introduction was very detailed," Bai Li Qing smiled and sat down at the conference table.
She added, "Since we're here to discuss our ideas, Officer Chen, you don't mind, do you?"
Chen Ziming gave a soft hum and said in a low voice to the officer he had been talking to, "Print a few more copies of the interview list."
Su Yue sat beside Bai Li Qing. Although Chen Ziming's presence made her uneasy, she still gathered her spirits and entered work mode.
By the time they finished discussing, the list had already been brought.
Only then did Chen Ziming sit down at the conference table.
Still opposite her.
Still not looking at her.
His handsome hands distributed the list to them. Su Yue looked at it. It contained names, ages, current workplaces, years of service, achievements, and so on.
It even included a brief description of personality.
Very detailed.
"Everyone is busy with work, so we've compiled this material. There will be staged exercises this Saturday afternoon, and you can meet them in person then."
Chen Ziming explained.
"Okay, thank you for your hard work, Officer Chen." Bai Li Qing was very satisfied with the day's progress.
The air was quiet for a moment. Seeing that there was nothing else, the cameraman suggested they leave.
Bai Li Qing nodded and checked her watch, "It's already past closing time. Are you two going home by yourselves or back to the station with me?"
Su Yue saw that Chen Ziming still had no intention of looking at her, so she thought for a moment and said:
"I'll go back by myself, Teacher Bai Li."
Bai Li Qing looked at the two of them bickering and gave a knowing smile, then pulled the cameraman away.
As they left, she closed the door.
Inside the rest booth, only the two of them remained.
Chen Ziming finally deigned to look at her, his eyes flickering, but his face still showed no expression.
Su Yue stood opposite him, took a deep breath, finally mustered her courage, and spoke softly:
"Are you still angry with me?"
The man in front of her sneered, "Why should I be angry?"
She still had the nerve to ask him if he was angry.
It seemed she thought he wasn't angry enough.
Knowing the day she returned to the country, he had wished he could count down by the minute to make time feel like it was passing faster.
But she, on the other hand, had time to see Li Nian Nian and Chen Cheng, and to go out with friends.
Yet, she didn't even send him a message.
Looking today, she had even taken off her ring.
Didn't she say she wanted him to wait?
Didn't she say she would always love him?
Where was this love?
Su Yue was silent for a moment, hearing the tone of his voice, she knew he was quite upset.
The police rest booth had a window, with occasional passersby outside.
She walked over and pulled the curtains closed.
Then she went to the door and locked it.
All these actions were observed by the coldly watching Officer Chen. His Adam's apple involuntarily slid.
After finishing these actions, Su Yue quietly let out a sigh of relief and walked towards him, throwing herself directly into his arms.
The embrace that gave her peace.
The embrace she had longed for for so long.
Carrying the familiar scent of her, and the smell of the afternoon sun.
She buried her head in his chest.
Listening to his strong and steady heartbeat.
Finally.
She could embrace him again.
