“Nothing important,” she smiled at Lin Xiaoman, not wanting her to see her inner anxiety.
“You two… what’s your relationship?” Lin Xiaoman suddenly lowered her voice, asking with a hint of gossip.
“No relationship…” Su Yue felt a pang of guilt at her question and quickly replied.
“Really…” Lin Xiaoman was skeptical. “I thought he liked you.”
Su Yue, who was drinking water, choked.
“Didn’t he? I saw him carry you away from the door that day…”
“No, no,” Su Yue frantically wiped the table. Just then, Lin Xiaoman’s phone rang. She was needed for a police call outside.
“Let’s go, I’ll see you out. Don’t worry, they often have their phones confiscated when they’re on assignment, so it’s normal not to get a call.”
Su Yue thanked her and went out with her.
There was no other way, she could only wait patiently.
However, a sense of relief washed over her. It had come to this, and she could only resign herself to fate.
She returned to school, deciding to stop thinking about it and focus on preparing for the tennis match.
Song Yan was a very warm boy. He always brought her various drinks, snacks, and fruits to eat after training.
Today was no exception.
“Song Yan, you’re too biased, kid,” her teammates from the same department teased him while resting after training. Song Yan smiled shyly. He wasn’t actually trying to pursue Su Yue, but for some reason, he just wanted to be good to her.
In front of others, Su Yue was always good at pretending. Perhaps this was the invisible influence of Su Minghua.
She unscrewed a bottle cap, her eyes curving into a smile as she said to the other person, “Jealous? Should I show you some favoritism too?” After speaking, she distributed some to the other teammates, then looked at Song Yan and asked with genuine sincerity, “You don’t mind, right? I’ll treat you to a meal after we’re done.”
Song Yan of course didn’t mind. In fact, eating with Su Yue was something he felt very honored to do.
All the freshmen knew that Su Yue, a sophomore, was the campus belle of Communication University. His classmates were extremely envious when they knew he was teamed up with Su Yue for tennis, and some even used the excuse of seeing him to come and see Su Yue several times.
He nodded profusely. Su Yue smiled sweetly, then went to the lounge, the smile vanishing from her face.
Although Lin Xiaoman had said it, she still wanted to see if he had replied.
There was still no news.
Her mood swung between anxiety and hope until the day before the tennis match.
Chen Ziming remained silent, and Su Minghua made no moves. She gradually relaxed and began to focus on the next day’s match.
But that afternoon, as Song Yan was walking her back to the dormitory building, she saw Su Minghua. He was waiting downstairs, looking at Su Yue with a very displeased expression.
Su Yue tensed up. She lied to Song Yan, claiming she had to go somewhere else. After he left, she slowly walked towards Su Minghua.
“Does Chen Ziming know you’re acting so recklessly?” he sneered at her, clearly referring to her walking with another guy.
She didn’t speak, quietly moving towards a less crowded spot, afraid of being seen.
“Su Yue, what I want you to understand is that I’m Chen Ziming’s superior, and I’ve known him longer than you. Guess who he’ll believe if both of us tell him something?”
“Will it be you, a cheap slut who lies all the time and only uses men to climb up, or me?”
He said this without any preamble, which hurt Su Yue.
It did hit a nerve, but it also confirmed her previous suspicion.
Chen Ziming undoubtedly respected him; she could tell from their last chance encounter. Su Yue dared not gamble. One wrong step and she would lose everything.
Furthermore, she couldn’t let Chen Ziming know that she had approached him with ulterior motives.
However, Su Minghua coming here specifically for such a reason meant he definitely cared about Chen Ziming’s opinion and feared that Chen Ziming would lean towards her and act against him.
That meant she only needed to keep Chen Ziming occupied…
“Don’t force me to make a scene at your school and speak up!” Seeing Su Yue lost in thought, Su Minghua’s anger flared. He lowered his voice and threatened her.
He seemed a little afraid of her contemplating Chen Ziming.
“Director Su,” she suddenly said, addressing him that way. Finally, she looked up at him bravely:
“I never intended to say anything to Chen Ziming.”
