Chen Ziming gave her coffee and kept the cocoa for himself.
"I won't drink it, I want to catch up on sleep." She put down the coffee cup.
She didn't realize how adorable she looked. Unlike her usual deliberate attempts to act cute, her hair was casually loose with slight curls. Her eyes were both soft and a little spirited, her small nose curved beautifully, and her slightly plump red lips were pouting. Her fair arms rested on the table, and her clear, bright eyes stared at him, revealing a hint of provocation.
Su Yue hadn't acted like this in front of Chen Ziming since she was brought in that night after causing trouble.
"Take your temperature first," he chuckled, not arguing with her, and handed her a thermometer.
Su Yue didn't take it. She turned and went straight to the bedroom.
She used the toilet, brushed her teeth, and then collapsed onto the bed, pulling his blanket over herself. The rain was still falling outside. It was past two in the afternoon, but the sky was as gloomy as night.
She disliked sleeping in this kind of weather, as she felt lonely upon waking. Yet, she was still sleepy, not having fully recovered from her fever, and she had slept little the night before.
Thinking of this made her angry. She wasn't fully recovered, and Chen Ziming still acted that way. It seemed he didn't care how she was; in his eyes, she was just someone to satisfy his momentary desires.
But she was also weak herself...
She squinted, feeling a tightness in her chest, unable to sleep.
The door opened, and Chen Ziming entered. This time, he didn't call her. Instead, he directly lifted the blanket, slept beside her, and pulled her into his arms.
"What are you doing..." She flustered again.
He touched her forehead, feeling she still had a slight fever. He figured another sleep would do the trick.
"Catching up on sleep." His hand stroked her back as he said in a low voice.
"Didn't you sleep on the sofa..."
"The sofa was too narrow."
"Don't you have more than one bedroom here?"
"I can't sleep in unfamiliar beds."
Su Yue was speechless at his retort. She felt she needed to be stronger, so she tried to get up and said, "Then I'll leave."
Chen Ziming suddenly tightened his embrace. Just as she was about to resist, she heard him say:
"Be good, go to sleep."
"..." Su Yue was silent.
But she had to admit that the oppressive feeling of the rainy weather dissipated in his arms. She could hear his steady heartbeat and feel his warmth. Perhaps it was his identity as a police officer, but at that moment, she felt incredibly safe.
Soon, she heard his steady breathing as he fell asleep. It made sense; he had been on patrol and interrogating someone last night, so he must have been very tired.
Thinking this, Su Yue gradually drifted off to sleep.
They slept for a long time. When they woke up, the rain had stopped. The evenings in June were late to get dark, and the sky had cleared. It was now six in the afternoon.
The dusk after the rain was exceptionally beautiful, enveloping the entire city in a gentle, orange hue. Su Yue woke up first. She found herself sleeping with her back to him, and his hand had slipped under her clothes, resting in a sensitive area.
She quietly moved his hand away. This time, Chen Ziming didn't wake up. He turned over and lay flat, falling back asleep. Su Yue breathed a sigh of relief, quietly got out of bed, went to the bathroom, and then drank a lot of water in the living room. Chen Ziming was still asleep.
She felt much better after waking up this time and was a little bored. Suddenly, she felt the urge to look around his home.
The apartment had five bedrooms and four bathrooms. The living room was spacious and square, with an excellent layout. There was a large south-facing balcony where Chen Ziming had placed chairs and a table for leisure. There was also a north-facing balcony, which housed the laundry area and drying racks.
The kitchen was also quite large, with both a Chinese and Western kitchen. It was fully equipped with a coffee machine, oven, and a dedicated beverage refrigerator. Judging by Chen Ziming's cooking skills, he likely cooked often.
His home was decorated in a modern minimalist style, predominantly in white and light gray. One of the bedrooms had been converted into a home theater, complete with a gaming computer. It seemed this was where he had first asked her to watch a movie.
Another room was set up as a study. His bookshelf was large and filled with many books. Su Yue also loved reading, and she spotted "Madame Bovary," a book she had recently wanted to read. She picked it up and began to flip through it.
