Chapter 587: Chapter 294: Are You Praising Me or Mocking Me? (1 Update)

He looked at her with a wicked charm; the brilliance at the corner of her lips lifted his spirits amidst the stressful work.

"Well said, domineering, I like it. Go, come back after having some water and we’ll eat together," he said.

Jane Quinlan chuckled and turned to open the door and left.

When she came out, Wendy was fuming and throwing things around.

Seeing her, Wendy immediately looked at Jane Quinlan like a hedgehog raising all its spines.

"What are you trying to do now?" Wendy challenged.

Jane Quinlan couldn’t help but laugh: "Wendy, why are you so scared of me?"

"Scared of you? Are you crazy? Why would I be scared of you?" Wendy retorted.

"If you’re not scared of me, then why are you watching me so warily?" Jane Quinlan asked.

Wendy sneered: "Ignorance is truly frightening. Fear and wariness are two different things.

People feel fear because of terror, but they are wary because the other is a thief."

"I’m a thief?" Jane Quinlan pointed to her own nose and stepped forward, "Then tell me, what exactly have I stolen from you?"

For some reason, Jane Quinlan felt an immense satisfaction in provoking Wendy.

Not for anything else, but because of a dress worth several million that got ruined because of her.

She was now seeking revenge for Kay Forrest’s money and her own most meaningful dress.

"You..." Wendy clenched her teeth, "Don’t you know it yourself? You have taken someone who didn’t belong to you."

"So you’re saying, that person originally belonged to you?" Jane Quinlan asked.

With cold eyes, Wendy retorted: "Even if not mine, it isn’t your turn either."

"Oh," Jane Quinlan crossed her arms and surveyed Wendy up and down, not saying another word.

Wendy frowned with a cold voice, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"I just want to see how shameless a person can be.

Don’t you ever look at yourself in the mirror?

What right do you have to be with Kay Forrest when all you see is money and can’t understand love?

I may not be the prettiest, but Wendy, Kay Forrest doesn’t just look at outer appearances.

Otherwise, even if it wasn’t me, it wouldn’t be your turn."

As she spoke, she shook her head, "Never mind, why am I wasting my words on you."

I’m thirsty though, she said and headed towards the water dispenser.

No sooner had she taken a few sips of water, Wendy followed her in.

"Jane Quinlan, I’m telling you, I will not compromise," Wendy declared.

Jane Quinlan was speechless: "Wendy, do you find this amusing?

You have been working with Kay Forrest for so long.

Do you think he has ever given you an affectionate look?

Why are you so persistent with a man who doesn’t like you?

Let me tell you this.

I’m not even married to Kay Forrest, and he spends more time working in this office than with me.

If you want to seduce him, you truly have way more opportunities than I do.

Yet, you’ve been unsuccessful all this time, haven’t you?

Why are you angry at me now?

Isn’t it because you can’t attract the man you’ve tried to ensnare, and he ended up fancying an ordinary woman like me?

You’re transferring your anger to me because you’re upset, right?

Let me lay it out for you; Kay Forrest is all yours to seduce. If he gets stolen by you, it’s my bad luck.

I won’t utter a word and certainly won’t cling to an irrelevant person like you’re doing now."

After speaking her mind, she shook her head, sipped her water, and left the pantry.

Infuriated, Wendy crushed a paper cup in her hand.

When Jane Quinlan returned to Kay Forrest’s office, he was already sitting down, waiting for her.

"Why did it take so long just for a drink of water? Need to play fancy with that too?" he quipped.

She giggled and sat down beside him: "I just happened to run into Wendy and chatted a bit."

"What do you have to chat about with her?" he asked.

"What’s wrong with her? You have an issue with her?" Jane Quinlan prodded.

Hearing his tone, Jane Quinlan felt a bit of comfort inside.

After all, this piece of fresh meat was right next to the wolf’s mouth. Although the meat was caged by iron bars, who knows if the wolf might swallow the cage whole one day to get the meat."

Kay Forrest, with a devilish charm, proclaimed: "I am very accurate in judging women. That kind of woman, vain and never content."

"Don’t make baseless accusations," she warned.

"The first day I came to work, she wore a strapless top, an ultra-short skirt, heavy makeup, and sprayed the perfume I like.

I gave her one look, and she gave me a suggestive glance.

Obviously, she had inquired about my preferences before I took the position.

Otherwise, it would be too much of a coincidence for her favorite perfume to be exactly what I like."

I have never seen any woman wearing that perfume before.

She’s doing this on purpose to catch my attention.

She thinks she can seduce me and climb the ranks by doing so.

Unfortunately, I’m fed up with this taste now, it’s time to go vegetarian."

Jane Quinlan patted his shoulder: "Are you complimenting me or dissing me?

Who’s gone ’vegetarian’? I have everything they have, only bigger, not smaller."

Kay Forrest whispered in her ear: "No doubt, I know, I know better than anyone.

It was just a metaphor, why the hell are you getting angry?

I’m just telling you to be careful when you’re chatting warmly with her.

She seems nice to you on the surface, but behind your back, she’s definitely super jealous of you.

She’d love to slap you dead if she could.

And yet you chat with her? Silly."

Jane Quinlan was at a loss for words; as if the woman had ever been nice to her, she was clearly fierce on the surface.

"Ever since our relationship became public, I feel like all the unmarried female employees in the company probably want to kill me."

"Look at that reluctant face of yours," Kay Forrest pinched her cheek: "We must have saved the Earth in our past lives to have found each other, whether you like it or not."

"Think about it, because I’m with you, how many cold stares I have to endure.

I wonder when their gossip will ever stop."

"It’s gonna be tough for now, considering you’ve snatched their golden bachelor away.

But don’t worry, no matter how much they gossip, they can’t do anything about it.

After all, our relationship is now firmly nailed to the board."

Jane Quinlan nodded: "Yeah, right, I can’t get mad. Just like the old saying goes, they’re all just jealous, I should be more tolerant."

She kept telling herself not to get angry, not to get angry, but somehow she still felt a bit petty and couldn’t really let it go.

After lunch, Jane Quinlan went downstairs.

The office, busier than a marketplace, instantly fell quiet when she walked in.

Everyone was looking at her as if she was an alien.

She really had never been the center of attention like this before.

After getting back to her desk and sitting down, Jane Quinlan let out a heavy sigh.

The company’s rumors won’t go away anytime soon; now she was looking forward to the holiday break.

During those days off, maybe she wouldn’t have to hear all this idle talk.

Only less than ten days left, let the countdown begin.

In the evening after work, Evelyn Claire invited Wendy out to dinner.

Once they arrived at the restaurant, Wendy was sporting a long face throughout.

Seeing her expression, Evelyn Claire asked, "Wendy, why have you been unhappy these days?

Did something happen, did Director Forrest scold you?"

"Why would Director Forrest scold me? I haven’t been negligent at work at all."

"Then what’s wrong, is it because of that Jane Quinlan?"

Wendy gave her a contemptuous look: "Why are you prying into this, just to spread rumors everywhere?"

"Of course not.

I just noticed that Evie’s been downcast these days, too, and thought your symptoms were similar, so I got curious."

"Evie Larkin is also feeling down?"

"Yeah, haven’t you noticed? She keeps saying she’s over Kay Forrest.

But with that sad, frowning face of hers every day, does she look like someone who’s moved on?

She’s clearly in pain because someone has stolen her man."

"Someone stole her man? Did Evie Larkin say that?"

Evelyn Claire quickly covered her mouth: "No, no, ah, what nonsense am I talking about?

Wendy, I didn’t mean it like that.

I mean, Evie Larkin just looks the part.

Let’s not talk about this topic, shall we?"

"You finish what you were saying, is this Jane Quinlan really a shameless homewrecker or not."

"Well... I don’t know.

But before Director Forrest announced his relationship with Jane Quinlan, I knew Evie Larkin always liked him.

Whether he had feelings for Evie Larkin, I really can’t say.

I dare not talk nonsense about these things anymore."

Wendy lifted her glass and raised an eyebrow, a homewrecker, huh? This topic is indeed very intriguing.

The thought of Jane Quinlan’s smug face today made her feel all kinds of irritation.

She had to take Jane Quinlan down a peg or two, or else how would she release this pent-up anger?
