We weren't flying anyway, just putting on a show for them. The act had to be convincing.
I noticed a black car keeping a distance behind us, speeding up when we did, slowing down when we did. No doubt about it, they were following us.
They weren't just here to tail us. If they were certain I was Li Hua, they wanted me dead. I told Jing Lei, "Hit the gas!"
Jing Lei floored it, and the car shot forward like an arrow released from a bow. I kept my eyes on the car behind us, and it also sped up, quickly catching up.
I called Da Kui and asked where he was. He said he was at the raw stone base. I told him to head towards the airport, as I was being followed.
I calculated that the raw stone base was about ten kilometers from here. It would take Da Kui about twenty minutes to get here.
I told Jing Lei, "Slow down, take it easy."
Jing Lei said, "Then they'll catch us!"
"He only has one car right now and won't dare to act rashly," I replied. "If my guess is correct, more cars will join soon. Keep our speed at forty kilometers per hour and hold out for twenty minutes until Da Kui arrives."
Jing Lei acknowledged and the car noticeably slowed down.
That's the advantage of sports cars; they accelerate and decelerate very quickly.
We couldn't just keep slowing down. As they got closer, Jing Lei suddenly accelerated, leaving them unprepared and us far ahead.
When their car caught up in a frenzy, I told Jing Lei to turn right onto a side road. The car behind us, confused, hesitated and missed the turn, driving straight past.
After driving a short distance, I told her to turn around and head back towards the intersection to find a place to hide.
We turned around and pulled over to the side of the road. I saw the black sedan turn and speed forward like lightning.
Clearly, they thought we had taken that road and they sped off in pursuit.
"Let's go, head for the airport," I said.
Jing Lei had encountered too many unexpected situations with me. She was so accustomed to them now that she didn't panic at all, driving as if it were a normal day. She released the brake, pressed the accelerator, and drove off.
We couldn't drive too fast. We weren't actually trying to shake them, but rather to make them clearly see that we were heading to the airport.
I timed it. This maneuver would buy us about ten minutes.
That was enough. We were still about forty kilometers from the airport, and the road ahead had fewer cars, making it easier to control the situation. After driving about ten kilometers, we saw their car catch up again.
I called Da Kui to ask his location.
He said he had already spotted the black car, but two more black cars had joined behind him.
"Floor it and hit them first," I told him.
"Okay," she replied. "You guys be careful. I'm hitting the gas."
"Alright," I said, then instructed Jing Lei to surge forward.
I felt the front of the car lift sharply, and I felt us flying.
The cars behind us were shrinking. I heard a loud bang behind us and saw a black sedan being pushed off the road by another car, flipping over onto the roadside.
I told Jing Lei to slow down and wait for Da Kui to catch up.
Soon, Da Kui's car pulled up alongside us.
Neither of us stopped. I spoke to him over the walkie-talkie, telling him to maintain a safe distance and escort me to the airport.
Da Kui asked, "What about the two cars behind?"
"Ignore them," I said. "If they get too close, just gauge them."
