Even the surrounding people showed expressions of astonishment upon hearing the old man's words, their gazes instinctively converging on him.
The old man chuckled and said lightly, "Do you all really forget why we joined the Alliance in the first place? From the beginning, I've only paid lip service to them."
"As for whether I've done anything heinous, you all know it in your hearts, and those who followed me know it too. Without me blocking for you from above, you might have died long ago when your missions failed."
"I've basically been sidelined by them now, because they feel I don't share the same ideals as them. Even if my strength is immense, I'm merely an uncontrollable pawn."
"Now that their objective is achieved, they've sent me to the brink of death."
As he spoke, his gaze shifted to Mu Feng, his eyes devoid of fear, as he waved his fan. "I've lived this long, and I've had my fill. If you want to make a move, just do it. Don't tell me, just give me a quick death."
Mu Feng's brow furrowed, then he casually waved his hand. "Kill everyone except him!"
Several men in black surged forward rapidly, their speed like lightning. The old man's subordinates didn't even have time to retaliate before they fell into pools of blood.
After this, the men in black retreated quickly, closing the door behind them.
He raised his head, his eyes filled with surprise and confusion. "Shouldn't you be dealing with me directly? I can't provide any useful information, and I'm a useless waste to you. Keeping me around wouldn't be of any use, would it?"
"Besides, I can no longer be of service to you, as I have no desire to fight anymore."
Mu Feng smiled faintly. "Perhaps there's a greater use for you alive."
"What do you mean?" The old man's brows tightened. He was tired of that life and no longer wished to be involved in these matters. The reason he was willing to be a pawn this time was to find peace.
Mu Feng walked over and sat directly opposite the old man. He picked up the wine bottle on the table, poured himself a full glass, and drank it down in one go.
His eyes held a smile. "Being in the Alliance yet untainted by its karma clearly shows that your nature is not evil. I've never been one to kill innocents, so if you're a good person, I won't kill you."
"Moreover, your strength is considerable. Even if there's no place for you in the Flying Eagles, a better destination would suit you."
Hearing this, the old man's mouth twitched slightly. "Do you know that I had a position in the Ninth Bureau? It's just that I don't want to go back anymore."
"You have no idea what it feels like to stay in one place for too long, to become completely integrated with them, and then to watch your friends die."
"I provided a lot of information, but later on, those people became wary of me and stopped telling me any useful intel. My position has reached its limit, and now I've become a pawn."
"They treated me as cannon fodder. If I were to disappear in this incident, they might even go after my friends and family. I would rather die myself than see my loved ones perish with me."
Although the old man didn't say it explicitly, Mu Feng understood the implication in his words.
The Ninth Bureau was on par with the Flying Eagles, with a vast intelligence network. The Flying Eagles, on the other hand, were a true sharp blade.
Some things didn't need to be said so plainly; mutual understanding was enough.
The old man fanned himself, a smile gradually appearing on his face.
"The young master of the Flying Eagles is indeed as rumored. I can't provide you with any further useful information. When they sent me here as cannon fodder, they made it clear enough. I don't need to know any details; I just need to follow their orders."
"And I know your strength. Those people you sent out can't cause you any trouble; at most, they'll just help you stretch your muscles."
"At this point, I've fulfilled all my missions. Give me a quick end; consider it my final farewell to this world."
The smile on Mu Feng's face grew more pronounced. "If I could help you completely change your appearance and become a different person, you might have a different choice."
"In your opinion, a so-called transformation is merely living with a different identity. A true transformation is becoming an entirely different person."
"I have a medicinal pill here. If you take it, your appearance will change drastically. They might remember you in your youth, but if you undergo cosmetic surgery, perhaps no one will suspect you."
Hearing this, the old man's eyes opened, filled with disbelief. "How is that possible? No matter how much you change, you can't alter the fact that I'm already old."
"Moreover, even if I change my appearance, I'll only have twenty or thirty years left to live. I've lost my value; what's the point of living?"
Mu Feng smiled and shook his head. "How will you know if you don't try?"
He then took out a pill from his person and placed it on the table. "This is a pill I prepared for my girlfriend. She's always worried about looking ugly when she gets old."
"So I collected some medicinal herbs and refined over a dozen pills. I happened to have some extra, so I'm giving it to you."
"This kind of pill is called a Youth Preserving Pill."
"Upon consumption, it can restore your appearance to that of middle age. This restoration is only superficial; it won't enhance your strength or cultivation. It can only change your external appearance."
The old man's eyes widened with shock and disbelief. He slowly picked up the pill bottle and, without hesitation, dropped it into his mouth.
If he truly had a chance, he naturally wanted to live.
But he knew that once he reappeared, he would likely bring harm to his friends and family. The Alliance would never let his loved ones go.
