Chapter 143: Going up the mountain

"Professor..." As soon as Hardrial stood before him, Louis tried to formulate a question to find out whether he had failed or not.
The thing was, he didn’t know if that was what Hardrial wanted, as he had made it clear that such specific questions about his learning were not allowed.
But he didn’t have time to ask, as Hardrial spoke first.
"Even though it’s not perfect, you’re on the right track. You’ve reached a very good level in a short time, so you should be proud," he said.
Laura moved closer to him. "I spent a lot of time training what you’re talking about, and it took me too long to understand what I had to do or the path I had to take. You, on the other hand, have achieved it in just a few days. I never thought I’d say I was jealous of geniuses," she said with a helpless smile.
"This really is the right path." Louis immediately felt happy. It had taken him so many attempts to do this that an intense joy welled up inside him. Having made so much progress made him feel truly happy.
He thought about resuming his training.
"Don’t do it, you’re fine for now," said Hardrial. "What I’m teaching you, even for you, could take years of learning to achieve. So you don’t need to delve any deeper for now. It will help a lot, but we don’t have much time. At most, we have seven days to return to the Academy, so let’s use the time to learn new, higher-level magic. You are already trained."
He started walking toward land again.
Louis followed behind him, excited that he was finally going to learn new and more powerful magic.
Laura would try to reach Level 4.
"Due to lack of time, what we will do is learn new and better ones, a maximum of six per element," he said and looked around.
"Water."
Then he looked up.
"Wind and earth. There I will explain the magical properties of the earth," he said, looking at Louis, and then looked toward the end of the mountain.
"Fire."
"Luckily, there are these grimoires here," he continued. "With them and my teaching, you will be able to progress quite quickly. I am confident that Laura can reach Level 4 and Louis Level 3, even if it is only in one type of magic," he said.
"I will strive to teach you as best I can, so I hope that in these remaining seven days, you will put all your effort into this. I assure you that it will bear fruit, no matter how boring it may be."
Louis smiled. ’Boring?’ he thought, looking at his system. This week was naturally not without the creation of missions.
Although, despite being magical missions, because they were basic and perhaps because his knowledge was increasing, they did not give him much. Even so, he gained 30 additional stat points from the 70 he had before.
That increased his available stats to one hundred and his system coins to one thousand.
While it was true that these missions weren’t giving him what he wanted, he had every faith that this wouldn’t be boring at all, when he had not only been passively strengthening himself, but had also become much richer.
And the next few days would be just as fruitful, if not more so.
"First." Hardrial got his attention and took out some previously prepared teaching scrolls. "This set of Arkanometric Weaves comes from the same large Weave that forms the three different versions of the water bullet I mentioned to you a few weeks ago."
"They are Level 2, so the first thing you will do, Louis, is scrutinize them and try to learn them. Because they are variations, they come from one of the most powerful water attribute spells, so learning them will help you understand them slowly, allowing you to progress slowly in your learning. It’s the best way to learn magic, which is why I taught you several basic spells at the beginning."
Louis nodded and grabbed the scrolls. "They’re complex, but they feel like they’d be relatively easy to learn," he thought.
Without wasting any time, he wanted to start learning them.
Meanwhile, Laura was also given homework.
"We will continue teaching you the magic you have been studying in depth. Since you have also been practicing with shotguns, you will have to learn a little more to specialize some of your magic in that area from now on. That will help you a lot." He took out some scrolls to give her.
One had only two fabrics, the other had three, and the last had two.
After both had studied a little of what they were going to learn, Hardrial began to teach them, step by step, following the same teaching methodology, but staying at the different levels of both.
It was more difficult, but nothing he couldn’t do.
The hours began to pass, and soon it was the ninth day of training. On the tenth day, they began to practice on their own, having mastered some of the indicated spells.
Laura had not yet managed to venture into the dangerous but amazing realm of Level 4 spells, but she had learned a really powerful spell.
She managed to cast a spell that firmly pierced the bone of a fairly powerful beast at a terrifying distance.
"Phew." Seeing it was amazing for Louis.
The distance was too great, and that bullet lost none of its force. It had penetrating power and terrifying force for hundreds of meters.
As for Louis, the water spells he learned had a higher level of variability than the basic ones, but they were much more difficult to perform. Now, they were truly powerful.
His mastery of these spells was so great that he could even create them in his hands and cast them, and although their power was limited, he looked like a real magician.
Speaking of which... he still hadn’t checked the cost of changing occupations. He would check it later.
On day 2, when they had both learned a total of 2 new spells (Laura) and 4 new spells (Louis), Hardrial decided that they should continue climbing.
The moment they arrived here, Hardrial had to create a protective barrier to keep them safe in a secure location.
"The winds are really strong," said Louis, who was almost blown away by the sudden change. "Besides, you can’t see anything."
Even though the three of them were walking ahead, no matter where you looked, you couldn’t see anything but a pile of dirt, dust, and wind blowing back and forth.
"Anomalies like these are problematic for this reason. They often hide powerful beasts that we won’t see until they attack," he said.
Just then, he stopped, took a step back, and in an instant his gun was in his hand. He immediately fired a shot in front of him, and the sound of the bullet piercing flesh echoed.
Then a huge worm-like desert beast collapsed immediately.
"This is what I mean," he said, but once again he had to take a step back and this time shoot at the ground, where a small but incredibly poisonous snake was slithering.
The bullet destroyed the snake, and he sighed.
"Those are the most dangerous snakes. If they bite you, you could die. It’s very difficult to get an antidote for their venom, so take a good look at the place where you’re going to meditate," he said, although he would make sure to kill them all in the place where he decided to settle.
They moved on a little further and then were finally able to park. It was a place that looked dangerous. From Louis and Laura’s point of view, it was the worst place to sit.
But from Hardrial’s point of view, it was the best.
He had to kill more than 10 different snakes, and the place had a hole that had been dug by a mole that wanted to attack them from below.
"Are you sure?" they both asked carefully, to verify.
"Haha, of course." Hardrial replied confidently. "This area was guarded by that small clan of poisonous snakes and that mole. They worked together because that mole is not affected by this snake’s venom, so they both decided that the snakes would bite and, when the victim least expected it, the mole would come out."
"Both would get what they wanted and benefit. So, even though they’re not here now, the other beasts don’t know that, so they simply won’t come because they think this is their territory," he said and sat down.
"Besides," he spoke again, "if they were bitten by one of those snakes, the meat or blood of this mole is the best antidote. They’ll have to eat something horrible, but it’s better than dying."
Although they weren’t convinced by anything he said, especially the last part, in the end they decided that this would be the place.
Laura was the first to start studying magic here, as she had already seen classes on the Earth attribute.
But Louis had to listen carefully to what Hardrial was saying, as he didn’t know much about this element.
Being an element with many physical particles, it had a rather peculiar and difficult-to-handle composition. Between clumps and the ability to malform like plasticine in the face of magic, it could complicate the creation of magic, so it was something to keep in mind.
In addition, something very important to keep in mind is that the constitution of earth becomes completely solid when there is a large accumulation of mass, while with less accumulation, it could even be a huge gust of wind.
For this reason, a special class was required to deal with it and start from the bottom up.
