Chapter 134: Going to the Tower to learn Magic
Jessy looked at him for a moment, put the brush down on the table, and gently wiped her hands, knowing that he wanted to tell her something.
He waited patiently for her to finish before he began to speak.
"I need to get stronger," he said. "That’s why I’ll be studying with Professor Hardrial for two weeks. I already spoke to him a few days ago."
Jessy looked at him, shocked. Did he need to get stronger? What else did he want to do?
He was strong enough to dominate this entire region and earn the respect of those guys through sheer power, and he still wanted more?
Despite thinking this, she didn’t question him. Everyone had their own considerations regarding their strength and how strong they needed to be to achieve what they wanted.
"Are you leaving immediately?" she asked.
"Yes. My magic is very weak, and my current abilities, although above average for Academy students, are far from the power of the true giants I may face. So I will be training and improving my magic."
"I understand, Lord Louis. Is there anything in particular you would like me to do?"
"You should continue as you are. Try not to show yourself too much and stay as you are. I think you know what you need to do."
"I understand. I will take care of the mansion and the region."
"Very well. Try to stay close to Mr. Gon these days. That way, I will be more at ease."
She smiled and nodded. "Okay."
"I’ll be leaving tonight. I’ll be preparing a few things upstairs. I’ll say goodbye then."
Jessy nodded, and then each went into their own world.
In truth, Louis had nothing to prepare. He simply needed to send a few messages.
He sent messages to his uncle and Jacob, telling them various things, and then prepared other letters to send later.
When he was done, he looked at his system.
The week had gone by quickly, but he had created many missions. After earning 40 points on opening day, he added them to the 15 from the previous week and earned another 15 this week.
In total, he had earned 700 System Coins and 70 stat points. His strength was increasing, but he didn’t want to level up right now, as he didn’t want to increase his stats at this point. All he wanted was to improve his magic.
So, he browsed the System Store looking for something that could help him. He found some more grimoires and bought them, according to what Hardrial had told him was necessary to increase his magical power.
These grimoires were full of information on how to attack, how to vary the same magic spell, how many variations could be created (although this is a bit misleading, as the number of variations will depend on the caster), and other similar things.
Night fell quickly.
As he left the house, Jessy was accompanying him.
He patted her on the head. "Be gentle so as not to attract trouble, but act with the strength that your new rank gives you. Maybe when I come back, I’ll have a surprise for you," he said.
"All right, Lord Louis." She nodded quickly. Somehow, she had tears at this little farewell, but she couldn’t help it. She was getting used to his company, and just then, he wanted to leave for two weeks.
Although she could do nothing, she thought that if she were an Ascended, perhaps she could go with him. But, unfortunately, she was not one.
She had no talent. She should stay where civilians and the untalented belong.
Moved by her tender gesture, Louis couldn’t help but want to caress her a little more, even on her cheeks. Her crystal-clear eyes were deadly when they belonged to a spy like her.
Although she was surprised and looked up at him, Louis soon stopped caressing her and simply said goodbye and left.
She stood watching him from afar, but Louis didn’t want to walk that day, as Laura and Professor Hardrial were already waiting for him at the Academy.
So he got into Jackvin’s car and went to the Academy.
Despite being late at night, Professor Hardrial had requested special permission, which must be granted to all teachers to teach their students inside the Tower.
So this was a kind of salvation for him since lately they have wanted to exploit him professionally, and he has been unable to resist. Given that those involved in this are quite powerful in every sense, he could not refuse to meet on Sunday night at that place.
And Laura was more than excited to learn everything they would learn. She had to thank heaven that Hardrial’s new student (Louis) was so talented that he could catch up with her in theoretical learning in such a short time.
Keep in mind that she has been at the Academy for three years. Next year is her graduation.
After driving through the city and seeing that Louis did not intend to speak, Jackvin took him obediently to the designated place.
After that, he returned to his seat.
Upon arriving at the entrance, Professor Hardrial and Laura greeted him.
"Louis. You’re early," said Hardrial.
Considering that they had planned to meet at noon and it was only 11 o’clock, it was quite early. But then, what were they?
Early risers, in every sense of the word. Since they had arrived an hour early.
He smiled sheepishly. That question seemed more sarcastic than anything else. But he knew he wasn’t like that, so he smiled back.
"I couldn’t imagine that this girl would be so excited that she would arrive a few hours early, so I thought I’d come and keep her company," he said.
"Hahaha, you’re right. I thought about that too, so I came early."
Laura shrugged. "Tsk, don’t say nonsense; you’re excited too," she said. Then look at Hardrial. "Shall we go now?"
"Of course. If you have nothing else to do, then let’s go."
After agreeing, they entered the Academy premises and headed toward the Teleportation Tower, where they paid the entrance fee. While waiting for the workers to finish the process, Hardrial gave them instructions.
"I will be teaching you on the 20th floor. That floor is ideal for learning the Magic of all the elemental attributes. But it is a hot and dangerous place, so you must be very careful."
"Okay, Professor," they both replied.
"Now, take out your Tower Tokens and hold them. The teleportation magic will read that as a request to take us to the highest floor allowed by the majority of the group, which will take us to the 20th floor."
They both obeyed, and soon three Tokens were in their hands.
But Hardrial’s Token...
It had the number 79 inscribed on it and was peculiar. Its material was not gold, nor was it even gold-colored. It was a semi-transparent silver color like a diamond, but it was not a diamond either. The material glowed softly, but it was not blinding. It had strangely powerful attributes, but it seemed harmless, though strangely beautiful.
"Floor 79? Professor..." Laura looked at him in shock.
And Hardrial laughed. "Hahaha, the last time I went in, I could pass seven floors at once. Unfortunately, I couldn’t beat the boss on that floor. He’s a tough bastard."
"But Floor 79 is still amazing, Professor!" she said.
In fact, how many in the Empire were on that floor? There weren’t many, and surely all or the vast majority belonged to the Castles!
That was already four floors above the estimate given by the academy’s most optimistic members. He was one step away from Floor 80, one of the most legendary floors, where only Dan Lockward is currently located.
That should be a celebration for the Empire. The Academy should promote him and give him even more resources, as he was proving that, despite being a professor passionate about his work, he was also a powerful pillar of the Empire.
But, unfortunately, they understood that he was despised.
After all, he belongs to the camp of those who accept progress and change; they belong to the conservatives who do not want it.
Hardrial could only smile. He still felt it was not enough, but at least this explained how difficult the world was.
As they chatted, 15 minutes passed quickly, and suddenly, the teleportation magic was finally activated.
After being wrapped in threads from head to toe, their bodies disappeared from the room and finally appeared on the 20th floor.
"20th floor..." Louis looked around with interest. When he heard that they would be brought here, he wondered, "Why?"
There were three tokens. One from the 79th floor. Another is from the 21st floor, and another is from the 20th floor. Why choose the 20th floor specifically? Couldn’t they go to floors between 20 and 30, for example?
That would be a big inconvenience.
Hardrial noticed his doubt, so he smiled.
"Don’t worry, you can teleport to the Middle Floors. Whether it’s the 23rd, 25th, 27th, 57th... it doesn’t matter. But this teleportation magic of the Tower is a little special and works simply."
"If there are several tokens, it will read the information from each one and take us to the highest floor that everyone has stepped on. In this case, you stepped up to the 20th floor. Although Laura and I went higher, the tower can’t teleport you higher than you’ve been." He said, but then realized that what he said wasn’t entirely true, so he corrected himself: "Unless you’re not showing your token. In that case, I could take you up to the 70th floor if I wanted to, but you wouldn’t be given any missions."
