Chapter 331 Severe Depression

"This doesn't make sense. Yan Yan has been at school lately, only going home for a couple of days…" Xia Shuyu furrowed her brows. "Could she have been stimulated by something after returning home?"

Although Li Se was a doctor, psychological stimulation was the hardest type of illness to treat. Ultimately, it relied on Yu Yan herself. Moreover, for some reason, he sensed the presence of a subtle, dark art emanating from Yu Yan, faint enough to be easily missed if one wasn't paying close attention. After a moment of hesitation, he performed acupuncture on Yu Yan and instructed Xia Shuyu, "Keep a close eye on her. I've given her acupuncture; a good night's sleep should help. I'll come by again tomorrow."

"Why tomorrow?" Xia Shuyu asked, puzzled.

Li Se cleared his throat. "I can stay at the dorm too, you know. Sleep with you?"

"Pervert!" Xia Shuyu scoffed. Then she remembered this was a girls' dormitory, with single beds. There were only three beds in total, making it impossible for Li Se to stay without sharing. If he were to stay, it would mean they'd have to share a bed.

Exiting the girls' dormitory, Li Se discovered the girl who had been hiding in the corner smoking was now watching him. Seeing Li Se emerge so quickly, she appeared surprised. "That fast?"

Li Se almost choked. He couldn't exactly explain such a situation. Just then, Xia Shuyu walked out, having overheard the girl's words. She looked confused. "That fast what?"

"Xia Shuai (School Beauty), I get it. It's late, you're in a girls' dorm, no men around. A bit lonely and impatient, huh?" the girl chuckled. Her gaze towards Li Se then shifted, filled with a different kind of interest. She clicked her tongue. "He's quite handsome, just a bit too quick in that department."

Li Se felt a chill behind him and dared not linger. He'd climbed over the wall to get in, and now he scaled the wall to leave, vanishing without a trace.

"Amazing!" the girl's eyes sparkled.

Xia Shuyu's face darkened. Impatient and lonely? She was furious, utterly furious! She vowed to settle the score with that guy tomorrow!

The next day, Li Se drove to the school again. This time, Xia Shuyu and Lin Wenxiu were already waiting at the school entrance.

"After I left last night, nothing happened to Yan Yan, right?" Li Se inquired.

Lin Wenxiu shook her head. "She slept soundly. Her parents, upon learning of the situation, picked her up and took her home this morning."

"Let's go, we'll head to her place," Li Se said. Yu Yan's condition was quite complex; it was definitely not as simple as it seemed.

Noticing Xia Shuyu's resentful gaze, Li Se seemed to recall yesterday's events. He chuckled sheepishly. "Shuyu, it's only a matter of time. You don't need to dwell on it."

Xia Shuyu's face flushed with embarrassment, and she retorted angrily, "Get lost!"

That guy was a scoundrel. Not only did he want to capture her and her aunt, but now it seemed he was after Yu Yan as well. Otherwise, why would Yu Yan have embraced him yesterday? He was too much of a playboy, far too much of a playboy!

Yu Yan's family was quite affluent, residing in a villa district. While not as expensive as Clearwater Bay, any villa here would cost at least seven to eight million, with some even exceeding ten million. Of course, there was still a gap compared to Clearwater Bay.

The car stopped in front of one of the villas. Xia Shuyu pressed the doorbell. Soon after, a very beautiful, elegant woman emerged. Her appearance bore a resemblance to Yu Yan; or, more accurately, to Yu Yan twenty years later.

Upon seeing Xia Shuyu and Lin Wenxiu, the lady opened the gate, looking slightly surprised. "Shuyu, Wenxiu, why are you here?"

"Auntie, we found a doctor for Yan Yan," Xia Shuyu explained.

The lady then glanced at Li Se, her brow furrowing slightly. "You're talking about him?"

"Yes, Auntie, his medical skills are very good," Xia Shuyu nodded.

"Auntie, I'm actually Yu Yan's friend. My name is Li Se, and I'm a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner," Li Se said with a smile.

Hearing that he was a friend, the lady nodded and opened the gate for the three of them. However, she didn't quite believe Li Se was a doctor. He was too young; at his age, even if he were a doctor, his skills would likely be mediocre. She assumed it was mostly due to their friendship and his medical studies that he came to visit, which she found understandable.

"Auntie, how is Yan Yan doing now?" Li Se asked as they walked.

The lady replied, "She's relatively stable. I've found a foreign psychologist. With him around, there shouldn't be any major problems."

Upon entering the villa, a foreigner was indeed present, along with two men. One, nearly fifty years old, was Yu Yan's father, Yu Dahai. The elegant woman was Yu Yan's mother, Guo Liqiao.

As for the younger man, Guo Liqiao introduced him as a friend's son named Pan Yang, who had brought the foreign psychologist.

"It's undoubtedly severe depression," the foreigner quickly concluded.

"Mr. Charlie, can it be treated?" Yu Dahai asked nervously.

Charlie smiled and spoke in slightly accented Chinese, "Don't worry. I am an expert in this field, a top psychologist in the United States. I am confident I can treat this severe depression, but it will require time."

"That's good!" Yu Dahai nodded. He was rather perplexed as to how his daughter, who had been fine, could have developed depression.

"Uncle, with Charlie here, there will definitely be no problem," Pan Yang said with a smile.

"Let's hope so," Yu Dahai sighed.

"Uncle, may I ask if Yan Yan experienced any particular shock?" Li Se couldn't help but ask. He recalled Xia Shuyu mentioning yesterday that she seemed to have become this way after just one trip home.

"Who are you?" Yu Dahai looked at Li Se with confusion.

Guo Liqiao on the side explained Li Se's identity. Upon learning he was Yu Yan's friend, Yu Dahai felt a slight strangeness. He hadn't heard his daughter mention having a male friend, nor someone she addressed so familiarly. Despite his doubts, he answered Li Se's question. "She just came back for a meal last time. She spent most of her time at school. She didn't experience any shock."

Li Se's expression gradually turned grim. Depression was a psychological illness. Logically, without severe stimulation, how could one develop depression so quickly? Moreover, Yu Yan's condition was already severe, even to the point of self-harm. Coupled with the faint trace of dark art on her, this was likely not depression at all. He said in a deep voice, "Uncle, Auntie, this is probably not depression!"

"Then what is it?" Yu Dahai asked in surprise.

"Nonsense!" Charlie became somewhat angry upon hearing Li Se's words. "I examined the patient. From her condition, it is depression. I am an expert in this field. Are you questioning me by saying it's not?"
